Default Questions on 1/200 Military aircraft

Good day all. I'm new to the forum, and so this is actually my first post. I'm glad I joined the community. I work in the aviation industry, and well, I'm a fan of airplanes in general.

Anyway, a little background: I have a small collection of 1/400 airline aircraft, from GeminiJets and Phoenix Models. At one point I had a few 1/200 airline aircraft but I sold them all because they were too big and too expensive, plus I think they were too heavy that the gears struts could break if displayed for too long, at least that's what I thought.

That brings us to now. I've been wanting to start a military aircraft collection. I searched for the scales and brands that I could go for. I admit that watching videos of people showing their 1/72 military aircraft got me a little bit tempted at first but ultimately I decided to go for 1/200 scale.

So as far as 1/200 military aircraft goes, which brands should I go for? So far the most common brand I'm seeing is Hogan M-series. How much is the average price of one?

Also, how is the detail of those aircraft? I found out that I was contented with the detail of a 1/400 airplane even though I came from collecting 1/200 ones. Will I also be contented with the 1/200 military aircraft? Or it pales in comparison to 1/72 aircraft?

Sorry for the long post! But I would appreciate some responses. I'm looking forward to starting my collection!

My 1:200 military collection is smaller these days with only 16 models. Regrettably I sold several Hogan M-Series fighters (F-14, F-18, A-6) some time back. I think the details on these is remarkable considering their size. Prices ranger from mid $20 to over $100 for some. Gulliver has made some of the best 1:200 models and I loved having one of their E-2C Hawkeyes which actually had, in some ways, more detail than the Hobby Master 1:72 version. Herpa also makes several models but they are pricier. Herpa partnered with TSM models to make 1:200 carrier decks which I have never seen but still may be available.

I major on 1/200 military - albeit one example of each. The fighters are a similar size to a 1/400 airliner and then the larger ones TU160 B52 are manageable. Detail is really good.
Although some major airframes missing still. Notably a Harrier.

As above for smaller models Hogan Herpa have the market but one or two others eg Dassault Shop
Gemini Inflight for larger transports EG KC135 C17 A330MRTT

....but you can get a U2/TR1

Thanks for the reply. I checked but Gulliver brand doesn't seem to have a presence locally, fortunately a lot from Hogan still are. I checked just now and that 1/200 carrier deck is sweet!

Well for now I plan on getting the fighter jets first, but we'll see. Regarding the brands Herpa and Hogan, are they equal in terms of detail?

Are the 1/200 military aircraft similar in terms of weight and feel to a 1/400 narrow body airline aircraft?

I have a decent sized RAF collection & a few cherry picking items from other air forces in 1:200 . All bigger aircraft types though mainly.

Gemini C-17 & Voyager (A330 MRTT) are superb models . The C-17 is a serious lump of metal. The newer versions being released have some extra bits of detail such as the satcom on top of the fuselage that earlier examples lacked. Personally I'm crying out for an updated RAF C-17 from gemini in 200 scale.

Inflights Voyager is nice but some small issues compared with the superior Gemini version. I have both including inflight Airtanker example.

I have in the RAF collection C-17 , Voyager x 3 , Tristar x 3 , VC-10 x 4, A400M x 2, Hercules x 5 , Britannia, HS748, Typhoon x 2

I also have some USAF C-17's , Just ordered an E-4B , hovering over Air Force One and the C5 from Herpa is on the wish list but its so expensive lol

hogan, herpas, gulliver are the major ones. I got a total of 25 of these 1/200 military.

If you can stand plastics and maybe just slightly less details, skymarks, limox and hogan wings civi 1/200 planes are a lot cheaper than gemini or jcwings.

Yes! I have the Hogan Plastics C17 which selected over the Gemini diecast version.

Hogans are fantastic because they are solid models and are pretty weighty. They are substantial for the price.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm pretty much sold on these aircraft and I plan on purchasing a few Hogan fighters jet sometime soon. Apparently the most examples I could find are some F series jets, but upon further searching I think Hogan also made jets from Dassault and Eurofighter.

+1 ...... Yeah.....sure, why not? Although sorting out Decades (ok years and years) of 1/72, 1/48, Misc, etc would be a webmasters, admins, moderators, etc monumental coordinated effort if possible at all.....This “Military Model Aircraft” category catch all, is well imbedded .....imo.
