Default HMC Website under radar releases

So, the HMC website just listed some updates. Many were expected, but there were a few surprises that I haven't seen listed or at least not widely listed here and elsewhere.

HA7745: P-51K Mustang "Tall In the Saddle" 99th Fighter Squadron 332nd Fighter Group, WWII
HM's "Nooky Booky" P-51D has been announced, but this 99th red tail was a surprise. Ok release - nothing too exciting.

HA19015: McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantom II 157299, VF-103 "Sluggers', USS Saratoga, 1971
this one came out of nowhere - not just an announcement, but pre-pros already! While this will appeal to the "MiG Killer" crowd, it's a relatively undecorated example and as such the shortcomings on HM's well-worn J phantom mould are on full display. I did some googling of this bird and it had a bit of variation on markings and such. HM seems to have chosen the most boring possible interpretation *but* there is a very good possibility that this was correct or the most correct at the time of the mig kill. Again, I didn't check thoroughly as this requires several hours of research as clearly there are also a lot of poorly researched interpretations out the between various paintings/profiles/models that have been built of this. But, the main takeaway for me is that unfortunately it's unlikely to be a very good piece of diecast - something along the lines of HM's previous very disappointing VF-31 saratoga phantom perhaps. Would have been a great idea for HM to do this as their first "worn/shaded/etc" series.

HA4421: Lockheed Martin F-35A 134th FS, 158th FW, Burlington Int'l Airport, Vermont Air Guard, September 2019
I don't follow F-35s so closely, but this would seem to be a new release. Figure somebody at the actual unit convinced HM to make this one. The Air Guard flies F-35s now? Time flies fast.

HA5807 Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk 85-831 (with Skunk Works artwork on the underside)
another one i'm not sure if it was announced already. I'm sure this will appeal to some.

HA6701 Tornado IDS 44+43, JaBoG 34 Allgau, Luftwaffe, 1980s
New tooling - should be a nice one. This aircraft models well and the lufty dark camo hides many faults.

HA4420 F-35A "Diana Special Marking" F-001, 323 TES "Diana", Edwards AFB, Royal Netherlands Air Force, 2018
Diana liveries are awesome, but there's not much diana here so it's basically an F35A for RNLAF collectors. Wouldn't it be awesome if HM did the original teat-out diana RNLAF F-16A? The old witty release has gotten justifiably rare and fairly expensive.

HA5311 Czech MiG-23. Should be fine. Still waiting for a Ukrainian one.

there are also some yawner belgian air force dday commemorative f-16s out there.

wish HM would moderate their releases of recent commemorative / anniversary releases in favour of more aesthetically pleasing commemorative and anniversary releases, no matter when they were first released.

the zeus iii f-16 has made greek air force collectors out of me and several others, judging by the chatter.

There seems to have been slightly more than usual shuffling of release dates and months.

Nothing from me from the previously unreleased unless the released sluggers phantom winds up being far better than the pre-pro or on deep discount.

However, from the already known from this release poster, for me the JASDF blue impulse sabre is a must get. The question is whether it will have the "F" wing. I suspect it will. The zeus f-16 is also on my get list, and I think this one will be popular. In fact, I suspect that this is one of the few hm releases that will actually increase in value substantially over time as HM seems unlikely to ever re-run it.

there are so many possible tornado schemes this choice by HM in retrospect looks like a masterstroke. i guess i and others here didn't really mention it before because we old hands were more or less figured our old corgis were good enough - which they kind of are - the corgis are very nice models on the whole. still, there is a lot of room for re-runs and improvements. i'll take a german navy version for sure, and possibly more.

with the eurofighter typhoon and now the short tornado i wonder if this is the beginning of a trend for european releases. if so, and if skymax is anything but dead, I can't think of a better match of a beloved aircraft than skymax (or hm as hm) to release a Fiat 91 gina in 1/72. many european users, compact mould, hm/skymax would do an awesome job on this one, and it should sell well.

i wonder if these german air force releases aren't meant for people collecting the cold war DDR/DBR opposing aircrafts.
the mig21 and mig29 with DDR colors and the f104g and typhoon in DBR were recently released right? if new mig23s and f4s in german colors are scheduled too in the next months i might be right.

There is a remote possibility, according what I suggested to HM long ago, that the camo Richthofen F-104G JA+111 (the marking used by Hartmann) with the Snoopy Red Baron nose marking (a possible homage to Richthofen himself), may be released in 2020. If fruition, this would close out my Richthofen/Hartmann theme ....Certainly flown during the Cold War period, but not DDR opposing. The historical entry for this particular aircraft is “ F-104G JA+111 Jagdgeschwader 71 "Richthofen" (JG 71"R") Air Defence Competition 1967”.

I tend to agree, the old Pooch tooling was actually not to bad at all. In addition its one of the rare Pooch toolings that they put extra effort in weapons. Brimstone, Storm Shadow etc.

And they released quite a few of them. The Pooch IDS tooling was one of their most released in recent times.

But,...…...hardly any Luftwaffe Tonkas,.....and none for years. There are still plenty of RAF schemes to do as well. So their is no shortage of possibilities,...the type will keep on giving schemes well for the life of the tooling.

The Pooch tooling will be overwhelmed (as will the Typhoon tooling) with prodigious release schedule and they will fade away,.....as has other Pooch toolings (F4, A4, Sabre etc).

I and many others have always stated that Corgi release schedule was its biggest vulnerability,.....particularly for modern stuff. They have themselves only to blame.

Excellent choice, BB! Would gladly purchase it.

Just hoping there are some decals or good quality photos available of this JA+111 Starfighter and Snoopy Red Baron marking for HM to replicate.
No photo of this particular Starfighter in AirDoc Jagdbombengeschwader 71 'Richtofen´ book.
Also, my brief yesterday´s qooqle search didn´t returned any result ... maybe I was just too quick with the search.

My bad, sorry, i didn´t put it correctly.
I´ve noticed this photo of course, but my previous sentence should actually read: No usable photo of this particular Starfighter in AirDoc Jagdbombengeschwader 71 'Richtofen´ book.

I was concentrated on finding only a hi-res Snoopy Red Baron photo, in this book, on the web ... and nothing found so far.

Some news...of old for me but new for you....since June of 2018 I had started dialogue with William for getting this particular schemed F-104G.....Yes, the fuzzy blurry Snoopy Red Baron marking had been troublesome for me as well. I will say this much...I have a long email trail in which I actually located and dialogued with the very much still alive pilot of that aircraft shown seated in the picture. Much of my communications and the name of the pilot, I cannot reveal now. But know that he too does not have a clearer picture of that marking. So I offered to work with him if possible on what the marking looked like....he agreed but that I should know that he will rely on his best recollection from memory alone. So over some period of time, quite some renditions I produced for him to review we’re ongoing. I will say, there is now a clearer graphic, and he has approved it as best as he could. I sent William the graphic August of 2018. It’s still on the burner but possible this year. William has to get the Camo version (color scheme known as NORM62) it approved by the Germans. The previous Silver F-104G Richthofen was at the request of the Germans. So that my friend is where we are at. Hopefully he can get it approved, after all it was approved by the pilot himself

If HM will make it, this will be interesting story behind this release.

Its odd that so few photos were published. This is also probably a reason why FA+111 decals haven´t been made yet.

Have you maybe tried to contact Wilhelm Göbel, whose name is on photos you posted, or Hartmut Feldman, author of the mentioned book? Maybe he might have the original photos or maybe knows where are they from?
And what about sending an email directly to Jagdgeschwader 71 - they could support releasing this model.

Or ask the wider Jagdgeschwader 71 community via facebook?:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Takti...12653792080304

Just some ideas, surely you tried more ways already.

Yes, early on I contacted much of what you suggested.

The squadron itself only has the same photos already shown in my posts. Beyond that nothing more.

As far as Facebook....I do not subscribe to or a member of social media such as that.

As far as Hartmut .... he is the one who put me in touch with the pilot.

As far as Wilhelm, the owner of the pictures already shown in the posts....that’s it, that all the pictures he has.

I have exhausted my search for sources, hence working with the pilot.

If you have the time to search and do leg work, yourself especially through Facebook, that would be helpful.

Otherwise....my collaboration with the pilot is all we have.

Unfortunately still no ideal result so far, but pretty good work from ya.

This is more towards the other forumites willing to get involved, I´m enthusiastic non-facebook user.
