Cool. Mine should be arriving any minute.

That lakenheath phantom was selling for I think it was 25 or 30 euro at aviationmegatstore's black friday sale. Quite an unpopular bird, but not a particularly unattractive one. I'm guessing that once the small contingent of mostly british "I buy all Lakenheath aircraft" had their fill, it was hard to move the rest. Still, 38 is a great price and wholeheartedly I agree we should support flying-tigers in the uk as much as we can as richard is a great guy - really knows his stuff and genuinely cares about aviation, diecast models, history, and the well-being of his customers (compared with another uk retailer that begins with j and who i believe are very poor from many perspectives).

I finally got a very well built 1/72 30th annivrsary 301sq jasdf phantom - the one with the sunbursts on the side and quite complex scheme. Even if air commander or somebody does this in the future, I'm quite glad I got it as I got it on a japanese auction site for cheap as it had been listed in the wrong section with a cheap buy-it-now price.

in fairness, i bought it "with issues" and had to fix it up as best i can, but i think it still looks great. and even though this build is probably better than any diecast equivalent will be, I continue to think that this is a great subject for air commander or, at a push, hobbymaster, though i feel hobbymaster won't give it proper justice.

That's actually a pretty good point FTS. I have not bought the most recent anniversary release,...although I will be tempted by the more blackish release,....and hence the matching pair will be tempting.

But like the example you have posted, the JASDF has created some amazing special schemes for their Spooks.

The old (and I say old,...as its been around a while) X-Plus Black Kai is still my favourite JASDF Spook and I have 5 JASDF Spooks in the collection.

Your example would be an instant buy, along with this one:

LFT "good bye okinawa" is an interesting scheme. not my favourite, but interesting nonetheless.

In addition to the anniversary scheme I showed, I think the holy grail of JASDF for now anyway includes an "Amigo" aircraft (simply because having "Amigo" written in large script letters is so ridiculous) and the (short lived?) green digital camo one.

though to be perfectly honest with you for my eye the digital camo scheme looks a bit cheap and chinese-y.

As in many things in our hobby,..its subjective, which is what makes it so diversely wonderful. I personally don't think much of "Amigo".

Apparently HM cannot replicate that extraordinary digital scheme,..which is a shame.

i dont think much of amigo either. i just think its so ridiculous that it's worth doing.

hm is claiming they can't do that scheme? "can't, or wont?" At any rate it makes me all the more happy that i got that superb digital camo anniversary hornet from witty, then.

I'm sure if HM thought they would make some dough out of the scheme,..they would be all over it.

Could not agree more. A bit surprised HM have not already taken advantage of this one.

That's true... but sometimes you fall on great bargain !
But, yes... if HM could make again this model, it would be nice.

I've had my ebay radar on for this one for about a year now with no luck. It's out there, but at prices not worth paying. One of the "I feel stupid now for passing up on it" models. In fact, I just bought the inferior recon blue version on the aftermarket on the other day on a bargain, since it's getting quite rare too even though it's somewhat less good of a release of the original. I didn't get the original back then because I had just gotten the x-plus black-ish one.

But again, your code3 is great! Well done! And, while code 3s are never 'easy', i gotta say since this one requires little to no repaint (just decal application), it is one of those that maybe is within many people's abilities to do.
