So many of the comments in threads are negative or at best barely neutral. So this makes me wonder if those folks are actually enjoying the hobby.
For me, I am currently not able to display my collection, since I will be moving soon. So that factor is disappointing. Lucky for me, I enjoy the chase for additions to my collection so I keep active in the hobby daily. I also enjoy archiving data, so I work on my databases too.
There are some negatives for me. I started collecting only 4 years ago, so I missed out on the issue of several items that I may not be able to afford on the secondary market. 1/72nd scale medium and heavy aircraft are not well represented for the World War 2 powers. I want a Ki-21, Ki-49, G3M, G3M, H6K, H8K, He 177, Fw 200, Z.1007, SM-79, Pe-2, Pe-8, DB-3, B-29, B-32, PBM, PB2Y, C-46, and a C-54.
The polar opposite. Mad as h**l and ready to fight at the drop of a hat if anyone disagrees with me.
Ok, just kidding! Somewhat happy with my collecting. I kinda went away from civil aviation and onto 1/72 military stuff. Slowly getting rid of my 1/400 models mainly so they can be appreciated a bit more than me honestly.Kind of useless sitting in bankers boxes never seeing light of day! I don't think I have ever regretted buying a certain model. Still love looking up at the sky and grabbing my phone to check Flightradar24 to see what it is and where it's heading!
I love to collect of course, I only wish to win to jackpot of the SUPERENALOTTO to buy a brand new house to turn it a sort of museum due to the fact that, for obvious reasaons of lack of space, many models o' mine are still in box...
I am not a super critical collector, but certainly don't want junk in my collection. I would say it have been a very enjoyable hobby for me for the past several years. I think I became more of avid collector nearly twenty years ago now. I have bought and sold more models than I currently own I think. Nowadays I have to sell one to buy one in most cases as room is scarce and I will not buy without displaying. All in all, it's a great hobby and fun diversion.
Fun hobby, nice people, and a good way to spend time in the comfort of my home!
I have a portion displayed, a portion stored in the basement waiting a time when I feel like rotating the display, and I have a little room in the basement set up like a mini retail store that I can go look at from time to time as if I were in my own hobby shop!
I don't have too many, and am selling off most of them (keeping at least the Israeli Skyhawk.) I think it's a fun hobby, especially hunting for that elusive model you want (and doesn't cost a kidney.) My least favorite (the part that doesn't bring joy) of the hobby is anticipating a particular model release and getting a diecast that you turn out to dislike.
Popping on the forums is fun too.
I'm also a happy camper here! Don't really care about any of the negative comments or threads here on the forums by the way because at the end of the day what matters to me, is what has arrived in my mail box period.
I WANT TO BELIEVE...
...that one day I will see many more colorful JC Wings MD-11 models and the long-awaited Gemini 200 TWA twin stripes 727-200!
I always fly America's favorite airline: Southwest Airlines and the World's oldest KLM!
Pariswas the greatest city on earth! Vive la France! Tokyo 2020!
