Default Diecast "Bucket" List

I figured with this hobby probably coming to an end in the next 2-3 years, I'd come up with a definitive list of what I want before I retire from this hobby. That's not to say that if any other good soviet releases came up, I would consider them too like a Hungarian Flogger for example. But I got a feeling this hobby will quit before all these are realised in zinc.

Anyone else have a similar list or strategy before they done collecting. I've kept my list to current moulds, with a focus on HM.

JASDF F-15, T-4
USN F/A-18F, EA-18 "Zappers"
Israeli F-16, Apache desert camo
Ukr MiG-29, Su-24, Su-27, Mi-24
Polish MiG-29, Su-22, Mi-24
Iraqi MiG-29, Su-25, Mi-24
ROCAF Camo F-5 & F-104, F-86 sharkmouth scheme
Soviet MiG-29, Su-22, Su-25, Su-27, Mi24
RuAF Su-33 Tiger tail
Syrian/Egyptian camo MiG-17
Czech MiG-29
1/48 Bf-109, P-40 desert scheme

If I were to include moulds not out yet that I want, I'd never retire

I'll add Su-7 and Su-15. Totally forgotten about the possibility of the MiG-27, add that too.

I also want to see more Iraqi Su-24, Su-25 & MiG-29 as well.. the Syrian Air Force Su-24 would be welcome too! i want to see more emphasis on South American Air forces, such as Venezuelan Air Force F-16B & Brazilian Air Force Mirage 2000.. i know the latter will likely never be done but it's still on my wish list..

And last but not least, one more Air Commander F-4 Phantom of the U.S Marines..

I hope to see at least a Fulcrum for them, not sure if HMs plans for the Flogger fit in with what the Indians operated.

Angolan; Cuban and East German Mig 23's
Indian Mig 27

And something I'll bang on about for years to come although it's like head butting the wall wishing for it and that is all the Dassault stuff:

Mirage III
Mirage F1
Kfir
Super Etendard

As long as Dassault are so tightly fisted with the licence, we shall never see these been made. I'm lucky I managed to get my paws on the Falcon editions when they came out though!

Good thing about these is, Iraq operated them too. It was disappointing not to see an Iraqi Bf-109 from say Witty or Corgi, Hunters and Vampires from Corgi.

Bf-110s were operated by German crews but I'd still take one.

By Oxford maybe ?? Probably the only way I'd get a Rapide

I think I understand you UF. And must say that I have mixed feelings about this hobby too. I think much of this "bad mood" may come from largely decreased manufacturing quality of the market leader (... leader by production numbers only), from significant - if not constantly increasing - incorrectness of new HM production or from drastic cheapo measures that already got below most collector´s acceptability level - all these facts result in steadily decreasing sales numbers. It almost looks like HM are on a suicide way.

And of course there are also outer factors such as much increased diecast prices (often hand in hand with mediocre quality) or effect of saturation / lack of display space after some time of collecting.

So your estimation is 2-3 years?

But lets not forget also positive tendencies such as Calibre Wings, JC Wings developing new 1/72 molds, TSM´s YF-12 and other new models to come (...hopefuly), Herpa 1/72 molds, new collectors jumping on board etc. ...
Also, don´t you think that if any from current manus will go out of the business, other manus fill this gap in the market?

How you see these things?
(I hope finally more optimistic as your "Bucket" list - with your frequency of byuing (2-3 models in extremely successful year ) - would be enough for about 9 more years!

There will be future generations aviation enthusiasts who want scale replica airplanes, possible my 3 year old being one of them. So long as there is a demand, the Hobby Masters, and Calibre's and Century Wings might come and go, but there will always be another contender. Some will quickly fade into the sunset and an angry mob will cheer on, then there will be another reigning champ to take the crown of diecast military airplanes, or there might not be a new one. Or..... The big three could continue battling for the best F-14 diecast model for decades to come. Lets hope for a newcomer to arrive who might bring on a breakthrough feature in diecast models, hopefully bringing competition and perhaps a price war. We haven't seen any diecast manu try LED lighting on a model, I know it sounds like an overboard type of request, but who ever thought of some of the things we have now?

As for bucket list, I'd love to see from Hobby Master, Century Wings, or Calibre Wings, or manufacturer of similar quality. Some have been made, some have been discontinued, but can be made better, but a new tooling would be a must.

1/72 Scale
GM5 Betty Bomber
P-3 Orion (Similar in size to a 1/200 A-380, Hollow fuselage moulds can be created)
HH-65 Dauphin in USCG colors
HM 1/72 Blue Angels A-4 Skyhawk 1-6
F-14 in Pacific Missile Test Center colors
A-3 Skywarrior
MH-6 Little Bird
Century Wings A-7 Corsair - More SEA Camo, and USN low vis (Raging Bulls USS Carl Vinson Westpac 85)
HU-16 Albatross
F-4U Corsair ( someone revive the Dragon Warbirds tooling)
F-6F Bearcat (with a dihedral)
P-47 Thunderbolt

Interesting prediction.

Not sure what that prediction is founded on?

But based on investment in new toolings (and factorys for that matter) and acknowledged intent from some manufacturers,...….it seems certain they have plans for Diecast models way beyond 3 years. They will become a cropper,...with plenty of cash down the gurgler,...if what you say becomes true.

Still,......predicting the Hobby's demise is old hat on the forums. I am certain, the above prediction will go the same way as all the rest and the Hobby will be as diverse as it is at the present time.

Hobbymaster, Calibre Wings, Corgi, JCWings, Herpa 1:72, Aviation72, AF1, FoV, Air Commander, Oxford, Century Wings, TSM. All of them have models coming in the medium term.

Gemini Aces, Aoshima silent but alive manufacturing other Diecast,...other than military stuff.

Anyway,....we will see who is closest with their prediction.

Hey Ladia, actually the title probably sounds more doom and gloom then I actually intended, it's not about how bad things are or wish lists (but if that's what ppl want to post, that's ok too), I merely was interested in what were ppls must haves before they finish collecting, if they ever do. But there is no doubt there is a bad mood in this hobby in regards to prices and quality, I still maintain prices are fine if quality justifies it, I'm currently not seeings this from any manu, yet I buy here and there when something interests me, which is by far biased towards a focus on Soviet aircraft and about freakin time I say !

My estimation is purely a guess of course, I hope there are those that don't take it so seriously but given my recent study and some of the choices HM have made with schemes, plus hearing what goes on in the background, it doesn't seem HM themselves are very positive about the hobby. So I agree that HM are almost committing diecast suicide by not being more proactive about what collectors want, especially with schemes. And shutting down variants/moulds which haven't been fully realised in zinc also seems like the wrong way to go.

TBH I don't like waiting, when I want something, I want it now, I've already waited to long for HM to do Soviet models only to do them in the hobbies darkest hour. So 2-3 models a year would seem like I almost quit anyway, a model a month is what I'd like to maintain but so far this year I've gotten zero models that have been released and again find myself looking to older releases to keep up my interest.

7-8-7, I think prices are way too high for new entrants to break into the market and especially if they don't deliver what they promise, TSM is a good example of that, as is Herpa military, rebadging another manus average moulds doesn't cut it anymore. Calibre I'll bite my tongue about lol. And I simply don't think there will be enough newer collectors to justify a need for more manus that can't deliver the goods, both literally and figuratively.

LED lighting is an interesting idea, I only see it being successfully implemented on bigger models like 1/48 jets, which isn't a popular scale anymore since the early 2000s.

Anyway, I'm still looking forward to seeing some models, I'm hardly done collecting just yet.

From the SU33 to the PC6 Porter

From the Sunderland to the 1:48 Desert Spits.

From the Apache to the upcoming MH-47G Chinook.

From the 1:48 Albatross D.III to the SU17.

Loving the incredible diversity of the Hobby.

Clearly I am a lot more positive. And happier.

Just found this interesting F/A-18 painted to mimic SU-34 Fullback scheme:

Should go well with HM dark grey SU-34.

Added bonus: HM already has correct colors ready from the dark grey SU-34 ...
