I don't think I could afford it.

By then there will no longer cheap Asian labour.

A unit would probably cost USD500.

About as nice as JCW/Gemini putting Witty out of business only to scoop up the moulds and recycle them with a mark up

Su-22 is definitely a great model but WHY a double seater version first?

i won't speak for others, but i'm sure i don't stand alone in wanting to see you come up with one. incidentally, any model kits which you've assembled, fixed all its inaccuracies and painted them exactly as it appears (or appeared)?

Family model fuselage shape is the same as the single-seat of the Su-22...just the aft cockpit is filled in/faired over. Making the mold in this fashion enables them to make both models.

Thought I would ressurect this thread after finally seeing some progress 'not in AutoCAD version' of the upcoming CalWings Su-22 Fitter. Which versions are you fellas looking forward to? Polish bird and a Peruvian example would be nice too someday down the road.

Looks like the Yemen operated the SU24M4 (Fitter K), which aligns with, what I suspect is the CalWings tooling,...with the bigger arse to hold the AL21 engine.

Yes, all Polish.

It's an interesting mix, just like Romanian and Malaysian airforces

A lot of great schemes for this aircraft, even from just the Polish alone.

It will be the first test of Calibre's ability to recreate accurate camo colours.

For sure. I can think of several besides the ones I have mentioned. How about a joint effort between HM and Calibre Wings for the making of the Vietnam AF SU-22?

Yep, PAF's Black Boar! Here is a cool pic I found of all three of their schemes including the one mentioned. I may turn it into my new screensaver!

Those 3 schemes have a good chance at selling out.

I'm partial to the grey version as the Soviet camo will be very similar to the Polish camos but they do add a few nice extra markings on theirs compared to the typical guards markings on Soviets.

The black scheme could be a quick and easy limited run.

Grey version is also my favorite as it will go well with my MiG-29 and my preorder two seater Fulcrum. Btw, I did not know Afghanistan used some 30+ SU-22's as their main fighter in their AF. Would make for an interesting subject imo.

I rather like the desert scheme.

It'll be interesting to see how far Calibre takes moulds like the Su-24 and Su-22, personally I feel like the Su-22 has more life in it.

True, given that there were 19 operators of the type I believe if my #'s are correct. Plus AF's like Poland and Afghanistan had 2 or more paint schemes of their own, sky's the limit with this mould. Any CalWings 'insiders' have an ETA on this btw?

There are in fact two distinct version of the SU17/20/22 family. Initial Soviet versions carried the AL-7 and then later the AL-21 engine. Early export versions carried the R29.

The rear fuselage and fin root is substantially different between the AL engines and the R29.

Its actually quite confusing.

Here is a link which does a great job explaining it all.

[2.0] Sukhoi Su-17 / 20 / 22

And here is a picture illustrating the differences:

Calibre Wings Su-22 Fitter (ETA 2035)-post-564-1282989095_zps1c802587.jpg

From what we (there was 3-4 of us trying to work all this out over on MHIII) can gather the Fitter M4 (Fitter K) is probably the best one to look for with export versions.

However,.....just to stuff things around some more,...even they have a different fin root,...which CalWings seemingly have covered with their CAD drawings.

The rivet counters are going to have a hoot confirming that the CalWings release fits the actual aircraft.

However, the current CAD pictures encompass plenty of export versions in addition to the Soviet/Russian Fitters.

At anyrate,..I don't think there is an exact science regarding the Fitter family with you take into account upgrades etc. But the rear fuselage is the biggy.
