Default Hobbymaster Wildcat, again

I guess there's been a database failure or something as it seems recent posts are missing.

So, in a 'missing' post I discussed the problems with the upcoming HM 1/48 Wildcat gear and how it is clearly not as good as those from Carousel1 and Franklin Mint over 10 years ago due to the use of "blanking" which is at best just barely ok on 1/72 landing gear of aircraft such as the beaufighter and totally not acceptable for 1/48 aircraft in this day and age, I think.

Now, the HMC website announces a slight delay in the release of the wildcat. Fingers crossed this because HM got the message and is taking the time to make the necessary changes.

Yes on others Topics too, post are missing i hope they will recover from backup.
For the landing gear they probably did it for Solidity but for me it would not bother too much since i have the bird in fly mode always

The FM and C1 versions are perfectly stable on their correct U/Cs, though.

Just got the HM Wildcat yesterday, opened assembled and while it looks good the left wing has a definite curl in it, I wonder if this a mold problem or just mine? Photo attached of the left and right wing. The trailing edge also shows it well. Sending a note to the seller and I hope they aren’t ALL this way and that mine is the oddball.

Doesn’t show up in the HM Collector pics for 8901 or 8902:

Sorry for the links (rather than images).

I’m thinking it was simply a bad pull from the mold. I have no doubt I’ll be receiving a replacement.

And my new replacement is already on the way. The defective one is free to keep. Thanks Barry (Vlad)

If it goes on eBay the defect will be noted and bidding will start at 99 cents.

opened my wildcat. for all its faults, hm has gotten the art of making quite decent 1/48 models down to some kind of science and on balance it's a perfectly good piece of diecast. if you don't have an old carousel1 model, this one will be very good for your collection - in some ways, the HM model is actually superior.

the color is spot on and the overall finish is tight. a few notes:

- the sliding canopy and front canopy is well done. i dont remember how c1 did this (or if franklin mint did
- the pitot tube is painted in two colors - grey for the body and silver for the tip. while this is a 'small point', it is much appreciated as HM of 24 months ago would not have done this.
- the underside windows of this model are simply painted black. sad.
- as mentioned before, the landing gear is blanked in places where previous manufacturers did properly.
- my example shows no 'warped wing' as far as i can tell. it's fine.
- the overall QA on this example is fine - nothing to note.
- as with all hm models, aftermarket cockpit parts, especially a panel, are a good investment.
- for those so inclined, this model would lend itself well to a bit of chipping / weathering.
- the gun holes on the leading edge are painted on dots. this effect is fine. maybe i'm just not paying attention, but this is the first time in my recollection that this has been done.
- overall, i'd say that this model is just slightly below the level of HM's zero. and that's a compliment. again, there HM's gurus managed to make a very credible model but also they did this without being too generous to us, the customer.

7.7/10
