Umm, not those colours?

That’s what we all want to hear, right?

That's some of us, not me. I really don't know, I'd just like the model to be on the same planet as right. I do know that the odds of an HM first stab being right aren't huge. Good colour pictures from that war ain't falling all over me.

My tongue was firmly in my cheek, but I agree these colours may be hard to pin due to the poor quality of a lot of Soviet film stock if nothing else.

Sure. I'm kind of hoping someone here is an expert because I only want one Su-25. If HM gets this right then it will be the one for me.

It’s a cool scheme given the history and what is - I assume? - the rook on the nacelles (given “Grach” - Russian for “rook” is what the type is nicknamed) all of which make it pop a bit more than any old VVS Su-25.

My two bob's worth is HM went the easy route and got the colouring from the decal manufacturers.

HM artwork:

Linden Hill Decals:

Wings Palette:

HM artwork are very similar to the two decals manufacturers. Now contrast that with the Revell 1/72 model.

Well at least HM got the pattern and the two stars just above the "59" right.

Well you decide if HM colours are correct from some old Soviet photos.

I certainly will add this to place alongside with Herpa's Iraqi version.

I built one from Hobbycraft kit 2 months ago. I might get this one from HM if it looks good.

Would love to have this release as I do not have a Frogfoot in the collection. Passed up on the Herpa releases one for the price and two for the fact that it looked like the same old Altaya mould.
Will HM f**k up the camo? You bet! I will then patiently wait to see what the final product looks like before I get my hopes up.

I think every release regardless of manu needs the wait and see approach these days

Generally I was favouring the lighter versions, but I'm not sure what's "right". The range of acceptability looks quite wide, which should help out HM.

Er, nice thought, very polite and all - but let's not. There's been several occasions when comments on "pre-pros" have been sent in only to receive the reply that production is already complete.

If you want to see what a HM aircraft with the correct colors looks like, there's amazingly an HM "Arkansas Traveller" F-4E for sale on ebay uk now for GBP 60 (I am not the seller nor do I know him). A great pickup for somebody... ah, the good old days.

The old soviet photos above are neat, but heavily over-saturated colorwise - unless you think everybody there has a sun tan and the ruway planking is covered in wet algae at the same time the guys are in fall/winter coats.

The way I see it, pre pros are useful for nothing more then hype and cancelling pre orders these days, more often then not, the factory has begun production and we start to see more "final" pics that skipped the pre pro stage.

HM were doing us favours before by showing up ahead of release, now it's hindering them.

Next lot of models went straight to final stage if I'm correct so the trend is just to show finals on any moulds already in production for many years

I don't buy enough HM models these days to know what the overall trend is. I do think, from the changes that have been made after comments, that at least some pre-pros are still exactly that. Unless they're opening up boxed final product and sending them round again that is. Really can't see that.

Over the last year I can personally think of at least one F-104, MiG-21, MiG-25, Su-35 and Su-27. I imagine that's not a full list. Equally there've been some "too lates", T-38s spring to mind. Oh and an F-104 that was too late but turned out not to be

As frustrating as it can be, commenting on pre-pros can still be useful. Trouble is, I rarely have the patience and you never get a perfect result. It seems something always gets fracked up - even if it was correct on their own artwork.

What was the issue of the T-38s? I finally bought one (threw in the dumped NASA one as an afterthought onto an order, but it hasn't arrived)

Thanks. Seems very gappy. Can't see this tooling being in the running for model of the year.

WTFDIK, but the colours seem plausible. At least it's not SEA over bright blue. Not sure about the tooling though. Time to look at my Altaya (or whatever it is) again.

Colours look decent, just tighten up the gaps and minimise overspray and this will look great

There could be less gaps as well
