Default Alpha Jet Patrouille de France 60 years

New entry. Altaya (l think). The delivery from France had a cost of 9 euro less than the model ( 29model+20 delivery). Scale 1/72.

If you like it, more power to you. But 50 euro for an Altaya model? No thanks.

you can get the official dassault model for 70 euro or so. while also expensive and not a great model, it has some 'gravitas' to it and its packaging that is probably worth the upgrade in price i think.

you taking over sarcasm's role, monsieur fs? you're factoring packaging into your choice of models and price justification? like seriously? looks like the dude brought along his blankie into the cockpit

The pilot is just getting comfortable since the box is probably where he'll stay in forever

Fulcrum18, are you able to take a clearer pic of your model, I think it looks better then the other more expensive one with the thick paint.

I think you’re right: certainly from the classic 3 feet distant view the “budget” model looks better; I must also say the quality of the packaging comes way down my list of priorities in comparison to the quality of the model.

A nice box is better than a crappy one, but I would never choose a (more expensive to boot!), but not as nice, model just for that sake of the packaging

IDK, maybe that’s just me, but then I do buy my models to display - rather than hoard and sleep on a pile of (as dragons do with their gold) - while the box just gets put away in storage... Am I weird?

i suppose some may argue that it's better to pay for better packaging than to receive damaged models, whilst others would argue that for the price we pay, we should already receive good packaging. i do remember the lines were drawn when hm started using foam blocks instead of molded plastic cradles. at the end of the day, it's how much support the material provide to ensure that our models reach us in pristine condition, eh?

well, as i recall, until quite recently, monsieur tker, most, if not all your models were in boxes put away in storage (until you got your new place and had the cabinets installed). and besides, i bet only a select few are fortunate enough to be able to display their usn collection on a 72 scale carrier

Good protection is one thing, but I assumed the intended meaning was a pretty box. Perhaps I am wrong though? (That rarely happens, but is not entirely unknown...)

Though, as you say, a reasonable degree of protection hardly seems like something one ought pay extra for!

I didn’t say I don’t have any models yet to be displayed BTW, just that I buy them to display and not to form into a pile I can sleep on

I’ll put the Alpha Jet close to a Red Arrows Hawk and a Mb339 Frecce Tricolori.

Sorry but this Altaya Alphajet looks ridiculous on his far too high landing gear. Unless planning to put it on a stand (don't know if it's possible here), I would pass.

i will definitely factor packaging into the overall picture. for example, it is definitely a plus for oxford diecast over av72's craptastic packaging. but, yes, you're right it's a minor thing. i should have been more clear: the dassault alfa jet appears to come with a dvd in some cases which for some might be real plus.

but i agree that pilot looks terrible.

but that said, i saw most or all of the dassault official 72nd scale aircraft at the museum shop at le bourget. of all of them, the alpha jet looked maybe the best.

which is why i stay away from all of them with a barge pole.
