Default New Hobbymaster Releases "May 2018 Onwards"

Whatever my complaints about HM quality in general, the P-51s continue to amuse and delight. I am absolutely thrilled to see this Pacific Livery. A+++ must buy.

F3F is a bit samey.

Harrier and F-15C look like solid releases that a bunch of people will like I'm sure, but prob not for me.

That zero livery ... might dump. As might the white FW as the first similar release is selling for cheap.

Interesting that they are doing a single seat and two seat camo F104 in the same month.

Dauntless another nice release. This one is from the somewhat less effective marine dauntlesses at midway which executed glide rather than dive bombings with not much success. I havent looked up whether this is lofton henderson's mount, but it wouldnt surprise me if it is (the namesake of henderson field, guadalcanal, who died at midway though not, as is sometimes misreported, by crashing into the mikuma).

thunderchief - i was not aware that there was a triple mig killer thunderchief. sounds, umm, "worth reading about" since if true and verified that's quite impressive.

all in all a nice release list. HM has def gotten better recently about choosing good liveries.

just noticed that the USAF F-104 has the fuel probe out. I wonder if this is a tooling update. A pity given the code 3 that my friend is doing

VF-7 never used the Felix logo. VF-3 and 6 fought over it, before VF-3 was awarded the use. I think they have the wrong art work.

i'm guessing that's a vf-6 instead of a vf-7 seeing as to how it's a 6-f-10?

From the little bit of reading I’ve done about the F-105 in this set, it is indeed the only F-105 with 3 confirmed MiG kills. All were achieved with the 20mm cannon, the aircraft survived its tours but sadly crashed when it was on state side reserve duty in the 70s. There are at least two other F-105s that were painted with 3 MiG kill markers however all “kills” were unconfirmed and the 105s were F or G two seat wild weasel variants. Tempted to add this 105 to the other 5 already in my collection

Yeah it’s a good plane, but I will pass on it as it’s a post-War AFRES scheme so, combat history notwithstanding, it doesn’t meet my criteria (which I am being extra strict with now I have so little space free..)

Was thinking the exact same thing. But hey May is long enough away to find some new space right? ?

Yawn.... ROCAF Starfighter should have been a C with wing tip winders

Did HM have a surplus of blank F-5 models they needed to get rid off and hence the brain fart to make models literally no one ever asked for

As I understand it you can 'opt out' of National Service in Switzerland by buying a HM Swiss F5 model instead

10 March 1967: Captain Max C. Brestel, United States Air Force, a pilot assigned to the 354th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 355th Tactical Fighter Wing at Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base, was flying a Republic F-105D-31-RE Thunderchief fighter-bomber, serial number 62-4284. His call sign was “Kangaroo 03.” During an attack on the Thai Nguyen Steel Mill, the single most heavily-defended target in North Vietnam, Captain Brestel engaged and shot down two enemy MiG-17 fighters.
This was the first time during the Vietnam War that an American pilot shot down two enemy airplanes during the same mission.

62-4284 is the only F-105 Thunderchief officially credited with shooting down three enemy fighters during the Vietnam War. Flown by Captain Gene I. Basel, also of the 354th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 62-4284 was “Bison 02” on an attack against the Canal de Rapides Bridge, 27 October 1967. Captain Basel shot down a MiG-17 with the Thunderchief’s 20 mm cannon. The VPAF pilot ejected.

“I feel I also destroyed the second MiG, as the range was the same and hits were observed in the same areas, i.e., fuselage, wings, etc. Also, his last maneuver could not be considered normal. The aircraft appeared to be in a violent pitch-up or tumble and out of control… However, because he pitched up over and behind me, I did not see him strike the ground.”

“Brestel was given credit for destroying both MiGs.”

and from what I've read vietnamese loss records only correspond to the first kill. so, perhaps some questions about the second one. again, that the USAF credited him for the kill is not definitive proof of anything one way or the other.

in case you haven't seen it yet, see ken burns' documentary. we all have some sense of "kill tallies" during the vietnam war, but that series really fleshes it out.

incidentally, i read some reviews of it -- some, from grandstanding idiots like oliver north who obviously didn't even watch the thing accuse burns of basically being too "left." (I say he didnt watch it, since his "review", on the fox news website, has numerous obvious factual errors about the content of the series) Others, like .. i think it was salon or some similar online mag accused it of being too far right. It's an excellent documentary series with especially good background on the political situation in south vietnam.

Ref the above folks thinking Burns Vietnam War was shifted "Left'.......I am one of those. I quit the series after the 1966-67 episode. Was I there? Yes. 1966-67 for a year and then in and out of VN flying still 1968 - 71 and back damn near for the end Mar-Apr 75. I thought there was a lot of BS in the series as I saw it.If you weren't there as we say "shut the F up"! Oh...66-67 was up close and personnel in Army Gun/Rocket UH-1s.
Now back to Die Cast Models eh?

However honourable your military service might have been, if you didn't watch the whole series, then you don't have sufficient info to comment on it.

"If you weren't there as we say "shut the F up""

Let's for a minute run with your ignorant and bullying view.

If I ever hear you make a comment about any of the following ever:

- politics in which you did not play a direct role
- history in which you did not personally see
- countries that you have visited (including places like North Korea, Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, which I have).
- wars in which you did not personally take part
- tv shows and documentaries that you did not see
- people that you have not met firsthand
- model aircraft that you do not personally own

then, by your own bullying, ignorant standards, all you deserve is a "shut the F up." No further response from me. You're going immediately on my block list. Gbye.

Noted I am locked out of his safe space and he list's 7 subjects which appear to have been thrown together in a fit of rage? Only parts of a few may actually apply..i.e. NO I have not been to North Korea however spent a miserable year in South Korea back when the main hwy was still a dirt road, oh, guess I should not mention that? That might somehow may even make me more of a Bully? Or? This guy has a serious problem. Seriously! With that I am done as the subject has been way over worked .

They gave up the hobby you reckon ? I guess cost of models, space and not buying much for years contributed also.

That's obvious, no $hill box level of photography

the gemini aces p-51 model in general is good. however, that particular release had a too large and if i recall unrealistically 'cylindrical' antenna mast installed. while this sounds like a minor thing, it really distracted from the model.

maybe because of this, for a long time this model did not sell well. whether it is still available i don't know.

the model is fine, especially if you do something about that antenna mast.

always, i'm not sure. they're all great.

are you sure the "D" version is a wartime livery? it might be, though my brief internet only research suggests this is a modern warbird-circuit "airshow" livery only. I'm not too keen on manufacturers doing ahistoric liveries.

HM has done one previous "pure" ahistoric livery that I know of which is Paul Poberezny's "Paul I." I'm guessing that this livery was based on the mis-reading of the color of this famous "Bottisham Boys / Bottisham Four" photo, which was a thing for a while

i say the only "pure" ahistoric one since elements of warbird versions of historical liveries have also leaked in here and there into some of the models. the most obvious and typcial way that this is true is in the perfectness of the d-day stripes on some.

strangely, i wonder whether that has anything to do with the fact that these models are assembled in china. i once had a flat-packed made-in-china cabinet that had instructions to assemble the cabinet upside down!
