Default Century Wings CW001625 SR-71 Blackbird "Charlie's Problem"

Just announced.

one of the funniest nose/tail arts ever to grace a post-korean war aircraft. Maybe not enough to convince me to get yet another blackbird, but still clever.

December 2017 release.

Note to CW: Lucy's "belly" should be pointing to the front on both sides.

Great pics Grecog: I love CW’s Blackbird, your cats are molto bene, grazie, and seeing your city in the background makes me wish I was going west from Croatia again later this year instead of SSE to Instabul & Cappadocia...

I like mine; for whatever reason the mould join line at the neck/fuselage isn't as obvious on this one as others.

Ha, so, "Timbuktu" is Greece? In Joe Piscopo's SNL voice: "I'm from Greece. You from Greece?" Chania, to be exact! Born and raised until age 10. Then on to California...

Chania is awesome.

Overnighted there twice, enjoyed each time.

what do they teach you guys over there?

quick lesson in geography... afghanistan comes first. the united states of america comes under "u". and no, timbuktu is not in greece, it's in mali. go google it up. and yes, i caught the sarcasm, just not the humour.

Huh? What sarcasm? What are you talking about? Not sure if you're being sarcastic yourself, or acting insulted or funny or whatever. You mentioned a zombie apocalypse in Greece, so I made the assumption that you are located in Greece. Sometimes timbuktu refers to a far away place, not necessarily the actual one (google it on the urban dictionary). I, on the other hand, am really from Greece, so I was hoping to address a compatriot. I meant no insult or attack.

Addionally, I'm not sure what you're inferring with "what do they teach us guys over here." I assume you are hurling an uncalled for insult at Americans, albeit maybe nor seriously. I assure you that I am as educated as I need to be. I do not take kindly to insults targeting either of my beloved countries.

The above has been a quick lesson in communication and manners.

you made the assumption based on an obscure statement, i made mine on an expressed location. monsieur grecog's your fellow compatriot, not i.

the feeble attempt at comedy was aimed at the america first slogan. as you can see, i'm not very good at it and hence, i don't do it for a living.

wasn't a good student in school so all the lessons in communication and manners are greek to me, really.

Gents, with all the due respect 4 the opinions of yours, why you don't start to post comments about the model?

because it's the greatest... it's the... best. it's so good in fact that charlie doesn't know what his problem is. now if lucy's belly was a couple of notches higher, this wouldn't be a child-friendly forum. oh wait, i forgot about cherry girl...

Youngsters these days just don't respect their elders. But back on topic, I like this fast beastie, I just don't know if at a foot and a half I can sacrifice the space for her.

Kinda like it. As most Blackbirds. But they are huge and I am slowly but surely running out of space, so I will have to pass on this one. Will stick with the two I have already, the Kadena 1977 one, and, the one I am so proud of getting last year, unopened, for original price, 61-7956 Trainer.

nice catch that. she sits butt heavy hence if the two face different directions, they don't really take up that much space. not the most ideal display set up though... but it works. me, i have them tilted ever so slightly that i can fit 3 within the width of the 80cm billy bookcases... with enough ground clearance for smaller models.

Err guys, you do know Grecog is Italian, not Greek, right?

A couple of pointers are that he’s from Rome, he has declared his interest in Italian AF models and his name is Giacomo (not Spiro, Alexiou or Trichótos...)

BTW AmericanWerewolf, being as passionate about muh Greek heritage as you clearly and commendably are May we take it you prefer everything, ahem, Greek style?

The Blackbird is an awesome airplane and model. But after 7 I have enough. But I'm still waiting for an YF-12 and one with the D-21 drone !

Didn’t someone get a reply from CW by emailing a different email address, not the one from the website (which seems to be ignored entirely)?

I remember someone mentioning it in a thread some time back...

never say never, but I am somewhat skeptical of the idea that TSM can make a quality YF-12 or A-12. Or, at least, nothing in their track record so far suggests that they can. Their track record in aviation appears to be some mediocre accessories in 1/72 and 1/200 and some witty-like very very poor f-14 in 1/72.

It's hard to tell from those pictures, but to me they look a bit crude. Maybe similar to typical AF1 standard.

Agree with you both, I have experience with TSM's 1/18 race car models and while considered good, I find their finish and internals to be a bit too plasticky and crude. I know from these forums that their F-14s are totally "meh", and thus I am not holding out hope that their YF-12 or A-12 will be anywhere close to CW's finish and detail. That said, from these small-res Nuremberg Toy Fair photos the inlet cones do look to be correctly angled.

Ultimately I would prefer that Air Commander do a slew of SR-71 and predecessor prototypes. However unless I am mistaken they are related to CW, so they won't release something CW has already done a lot of. Perhaps CalWings could pick up in this area and improve upon CW's SR-71 the same way they have with the F-14.

YF-12 and/or A-12 in "typical AF1 standard". I would buy depending on the price I would have to pay ...

I have their 1:72 carrier diorama. Apart from some assembly frustrations, it is very nice. What more would you want to make it not 'mediocre'? A motorized jet blast deflector? Steam coming from the catapult track?

My local hobby shop has a good relationship with them, they're local to me down in Chino CA. I guess they got their start making model cars, Top Speed Models.

Their F-14 is the Witty model, 100%. Since the main company appears to be German or have German links, I wonder if they licensed the mould thru Herpa? It would explain the fairly obscene price of their F-14...
