According to the photo this is the same model made by Witty a few years ago, hope the new one will be a little bit different.

Seems like an awful lot of new toolings from HM in the last couple of years. I hope they're not over extending themselves.

Can't wait to see the Flanker pre-pros. Hope their 1/200 shuttle is better than Dragon's 1/400 offerings were.

did you get their su35 release? it's totally in a totally different league than air force 1's release. not perfect but pretty darn close as any 72 scale could practically be. then again, i'm no rivet counter so i'm just glad that they're doing the ruskies. jcw, game on!

No. I've sent a few corrections for the Syria Su-35 pre-pro and have it on order. Can't wait to get it.

I also have my fingers crossed on the 1/200 shuttle. The F-104 might be interesting too.

A nice little month.

the good
- bog standard su27 flanker is a good choice for the first release
- superb choices for two us f-16s. sign me up for the wild weasel one.
- hobbymaster's previous jet vf-31 attempts have been underwhelming. but, their super hornet is a lovely mould and this one is nice. that said, i have the witty which is good and so probably wont get this.
- it would take a very good livery for me to buy a HM phantom ever again. the freelancers phantom is one of those liveries. now, stencil it up! come on, hm... time for a "HM Pro series" and make this the first "Pro Series" release!

the ok
- space shuttle not for me (too small!) but glad it will make some people happy
- also - boring eagle, but eagles are never anything but boring alas.
- f-104 is nice, but its production run twin from the previous month is more interesting.
- black me110s - they seem to have released a few of these, right?

the not as good
- three (!) more green/brown hurricanes. yawn. what will we get first? a non-brown/green hurricane or a non-yellow us sabre?
- of all the glorious p-47 razorback schemes out there we get the very boring "silver lady."
- also, the most boring foxbat ever. still waiting for a ukrainian one.

not usually an f-16 fan, but i like it!

What didn't you like with the Dragons? With the possible exception of the white tile areas on the "older" orbiters, I thought they looked good. Much better than Inflight's 1/200 for sure.

The poster shows Atlantis with the worm logo. I wonder what era/mission they're going for? Hopefully there will be a gear up/down option on this one and the full stack somewhere down the line.

OK, part of it is a general swipe at Dragon's space series, since many of them were seriously screwed up. Part of it is a swipe at 1/400 scale where things look more like ornaments than models.

But then there's this, and it applies to all bar one company that have had a go at an orbiter. Have you seen a space flown orbiter up close? It really does look like no other flying machine. The surface textures are completely different. If you're serious about modeling an orbiter then you have to pay genuine attention to this aspect. Or, like Dragon etc you simply ignore it and paint it gloss black and white as if it were an airliner like a DC-9. And no, painting squares on doesn't count (unless it's Enterprise).

So yeah, Dragon made zero effort so they get zero marks from me. I hope HM attempts better otherwise I can't see the point. May as well just get a mahogany version from eBay.

Just the truck for me ha ha!

Some nice releases there though, and if I wasn’t so very conscious of space concerns I would certainly grab a couple more; however, I have hit that point in (almost) every collector’s collecting when space has hit an absolute premium: as it is I have entire themes I have not yet figured out where to put, while my main themes are fast absorbing all their space too

I wonder how difficult it will be to use this shuttle as a replacement for the resin one on the AV200 shuttle carrier 747?

no idea how many hurricanes were non green/brown but yeah, eagles are boring... as are vipers. no thanks to usaf's standard greys. so yeah, a splinter/aggressor/anniversary scheme is as close to a psychedelic bird as we'll get. keeping my fingers crossed that hm will start doing the jasdf anniversary eagles. but yeah, do i really need dupes? we'll see...

for sure! that eagle was my first in 72 (or was it the brown aggressor... can't remember now)! don't really fancy the all-grey eagles so yeah, pretty much locked-in on the witty aggressors and jasdf anniversary schemes (this was way back when hm didn't have their eagle mould). but really... the first thing i notice about hm new moulds when there is another manufacturer for comparison is that their models are almost always lighter. i wonder whether it's because of a different composition of alloys, thinner alloy parts or simply a case of more plastic parts though.

Jeff must be absolutely exploding, he finally gets his Toledo ANG Viper.

Big month! I'm definitely in for the Orbiter, although as a Los Angeleno I may hold out for the Endeavour since it's on display nearby. Got to see it return from its first mission at Edwards AFB, and got to see it arrive on the SCA 747 and get trucked through Inglewood. That was very interesting, talk about a tight squeeze!

In for the Su-27 and Freelancers F-4. Will have to see on some others. Have the Witty Splinter F-15 already...

actually i have my doubts since i believe he already has a beautiful code 3 stingers(?). being a nasa collector, that bit about atlantis may thrill him more than the stingers bit, i reckon.

the su-27, f-4j and stingers are definite buys... the f-15c and f/a-18e probables.

For me it's:

- Su-27 maybe. There are other schemes I want (all ukrainian).
- F-4J - love the livery. So highly likely, though all fingers are crossed that it will be detailed like this beautiful bird should be. Amazes me to no end that it took so long to get this out.
- F-16 - I'll go for the wild weasel probably.

That's probably all for me. Maybe the super hornet, but probably not.

Very happy to seee the 180th F-16, as well the other ANG F-16. Yes, I will be hyping that up with the 180th. The tomcatters F-18F is awesome, The SU-27 is super and "IF" and a big "IF" Hm get the shape of the shuttle right, another great model to the market. Overall, one of the best selections in a long long time, looking forward to these. A SUPER month of picks!

Hi Cyril,

Yes, we can change it.

It will be announced later on.
But he asked too :
Quote:
Do you have the names of the pilots as shown on the aircraft?
Unfortunately i haven't answer... Names pilots are normally under the cockpit no ? but on pic, it seems there no names no ?
Or names are in the eagle head graphic ?

As stated before, the problem with the Hurricane (and British WW2 Aircraft in general) is that they far fewer schemes then all the other air-forces.

A few idea they could try is a Grey-Green, an all Black (nightfighter), light blue-green and white/white green (Sea Hurricane) and a Desert Scheme.

Other than that there isn't a lot of choice because the Brits didn't have that many schemes AND they generally forbad (although there were some expections) nose art as well.

To be honest, I was actually surprised they did a 1/48 scale Hurricane for that reason, because for most people there isn't much incentive to buy more than one.

I'm not sure that's true. There are plenty of schemes for hurricane / sea hurricane. see corgi's examples.

I'd argue that certainly there are far far far more hurricane schemes than say fw190 shortnose schemes.

If that were true (which it isn't in the Hurricane's case), the idea that model sales are solely driven by scheme variety is false. I'll just say SR-71, F-22, JSF, Spitfire (I mean, they don't sell at all) etc.

Smile Re: Hobby Master JANUARY 2018 releases

Actually I named 4 of the 5 shown, (I missed the solid green and the catalog cover missed the White one). I think there is also an all grey one from the 1941 Burma campaign too. But still, that's not that many compared that to schemes of 109, P-47, P-51, P-40 etc. That fact is its still harder to find different hurricane schemes than other fighters is the point I am making.

Compared to the FW-190A..technically you are right, but I'd argue there's a catch. The Germans did often use a Grey-Green as a base color scheme I'll agree with you there, BUT they also tended to decorate their aircraft more than the British with stripes, checkerboards, motting, different + brighter colors on small surfaces (rudder, wingtips, underneath, cowling), nose-art, slogans etc.

So although they are using the same base colors they look less like clones which IMHO makes them more interesting to collect. That's only my opinion though.

But that being said, and as a collector of 1/72 Hurricanes I do plan on getting as many different schemed hurricanes that I can find. The new hurricane mold is pretty nice, lets hope Corgi comes with a few new different ones next year!

I don't know if that's true, the whole idea of what people look for is rather subjective. I am sure there are people, who love collecting all black SR-71's and power to them. Schemes are certainly not the only reason I pick my models. Historical significance (squadrons, or attached to specific ships if carrier borne), mounts of famous aviators, markings, whether the scheme actually few in combat all play a part when I choose a model.

Speaking strictly for myself, I find collecting the same scheme (with slightly different markings) over and over to be dull and try to avoid if possible (not always possible like with USN aircraft.).

Its why I stick to WWII, although I know its a problem I'll have to contend with when I get into the Korea War Era and later. It probably means I'll by fewer examples per airframe, at least my wallet will rejoice.

Very tempting!! I have run out of room for F-16's, but I might retire one for this one.

i already have two hurricanes... and that's plenty. but yeah, i'd part with my money for the grey/green and beige/brown hurricanes.

Several prepros now available on the HMC website, including for my the YGBSM F-16 which looks decent enough. F-104s and other pre-pros released yesterday also look fine - few suprirses except the overal nice trend that HM is slowly increasing the complexity of their livery choices, which is a very nice trend indeed. Honestly, I'm no fan of F-15s in general but even the Eglin Gulf Spirit pre-pro looks good.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't get a lot of 1/72s now days, but I do like the F-104s and may have to get one.

I'd argue that certainly there are far far far more hurricane schemes than say fw190 shortnose schemes.
I'll take an Eagle Squadron one.

Yes, I like that shuttle too! But I'll have to wait for Endeavor as that is the one in the museum here in LA.

HM has produced Atlantis with a worm logo and no drag 'chute modification - i.e. early in it's life and nothing to do with the ISS. I think it's an all white interior because the payload is meant to be the pressurised Soacelab long module. They were basically white. The silver thing is an MPLM, a different fish from a different era.

i stand corrected. were they entirely white, though? the hatch and viewing port too? and the instruments at the back?
