Default Definitive List of HM Wanted Liveries (Part 1: 1/72 Props)

Here's a list of my most wanted HM Liveries. These for the most part will be liveries that require *little to no mould change*. I will do these in the order found on the HMC website.

Please feel to comment with your own wants, preferably with images.

1. B5N2 Kate:

Close the book on this mould. No more liveries needed. Maybe it would be nice if they re-did HA-2006 properly, but barring that, the book can be closed on this one other than the occasional similar releases for those who did not get them the first time around.

2. Beaufighter

It would be nice if they worked the mould into a beaufort (keeping all but the fuselage), but barring this I don't see a critical need for anything here. That said, a white stripey RAAF version may be the most outstanding need:

3. BF-110

Between my HMs and my Corgis I dont personally have any more needs here. There are plenty of liveries that still can be released, but I think HM has covered the critical ones more or less. Maybe a rudolf hess one, but I can't imagine anybody is dying for that one. Probably a splotchy desert one is the most critical need:

4. Skyraider

It would be great if they made a wide cabin version of this, but barring that, the most critical need is probably something that shawn would like - the olive USN experimental versions. However, I'd personally go for another early dark blue version like HA2905 - either one with a yellow or other color stabilizer tip or a stateside reserve version. While that initially sold slowly, it since sold out and is now HTF and much in demand.

Actually, the first three skyraiders in the decals sheet below would be nice:

5. A-20 Havoc/Boston

Wonderful little model, but they've covered all of the subjects I'd be interested in. At a push a "british style camo" US one or a sand splotched camo USAAF one would be nice, but knowing HM they'd make a soviet one that would not sell well.

6. A-26 Invader

Only one model that I want - a us navy drone carrying version

the above is not exactly that, but is what is achievable with the mould as is. With a small change to the nose, it is possible i think to make a drone carrier properly.

7. E-2C Hawkeye

No more for me thanks. If they did an earlier E-2 versions there may be something to talk about, but otherwise I'm happy with what has been released.

8. F6F hellcat

Please hobbymaster, it's time:

9. Ju-87 Stuka

HM seems to have run out of ideas with this mould and I agree. a nice mould, but nothing more for me.

10. P-39/P-400 Airacobra

For the love of god how did they not release this yet?

11. P-40

This is a relatively new mould. I have one chinese and the one with the death's head on it. Between that and my corgi's, I don't think many more are in the future for me and I don't see any pressing needs.

12. SBD

Time for HM to release a proper "stereotype" "Ace of Spades" SBD-5. The corgi one has issues and a proper paint job one would be nice. More critically, of course, is for HM to release a "tail gunner open" version, but that's not going to happen. The remaining subjects are mostly derivative or uninteresting, like the air transport command ones or mexican ones.

that said, there is still one livery i'd really like to see:

13. Helldiver

Obvious:

14. T-6/SNJ

A billion obscure T-6s and HM still hasn't released this one (or one like it)

a scandal, really.

15. Avenger

prototype avenger is all i can think of:

I mostly agree (I like your idea for the beaufort) but there are a few personal picks (ill post a few photos for ideas later).

B5N...1-2 more of the non-Dark Green schemes. HM only did two in the silver/grey scheme and they are hard to find. A version in IJN Grey perhaps?

A-20/DB-7/Havoc..

1. I'd really like to see early war versions especially in the 1940s French or British with the flex rear gun instead of the turret founf on the G and K.

2. Really like a glass nose US version (not the Pathfinder version) in Olive Drab. They have both a French and British but no USA? Its like the Yellow AT-6...its an odd omission.

JU-87

Would like to see a D-5 instead of the D-3 and I'd also like to see a Green/Dark Green Version like the JU-87Gs only with bombs.

Wouldn't be opposed to seeing a JU-87B2 or R either although it would take a minor modification to the mold (which may not be feasible).

P-40

Does HM plan to do earlier versions other than the N? If so I have a very long list. Aside from the "Gloria Lyons" I don't plan on anymore.

But basically what the 1/72 scale needs is a few new more molds. Yes we got the P-40 (of which I have 2) this year but they really need a few more.

Kate: No interest

Beaufighter: I'm good with my USAAC one

BF-110: No interest

A-1: I made my own camouflaged one as seen in the OP. There are other all OD versions though. Need some for S. Vietnam, grey and camouflaged. Definitely time for the multi-seat A-1E, especially for the MoH awardee and Peach Element Son Tay Raiders.

A-20: Have seen a nice camouflaged model of a USAAC one in North Africa.

A-26: I think I am good

Hawkeye: No interest

Hellcat: Want a tri-color camouflaged one with large red outlined insignia

Stuka: Have three of the tank busters. I'm good

P-39: Up for the right US ones

P-40: I pray HM will do the P-40B/C in 1/72

SBD: Have all and the Predators, cant think of one I really want

Helldiver: A-25 Shrike is most needed

AT-6/SNJ: I'm good with what I have

Avenger: Tri-color camouflage with red outlined insignia

shawn im very impressed that you have all the SBDs. I have most including many duplicates of some of the early ones, but am missing one - that I'd like like HA0170 which is getting quite HTF.

shawn the hellcat you want is available from dragon.

The desert Bf-110 is badly needed. I actually emailed William about it a few months ago and he expressed interest in doing another one because the first Bf-110 desert release was quite successful. Interestingly, a couple of months later, the upcoming shark mouth nightfighter was announced.

gonna edit myself on the B-26 and propose a very interesting one that i think would be quite popular but I think we won't see because AFAIK no decals for it (yet!)

I forgot, I don't have the French F6F, SDB and Helldiver. Or F-100/F-8 for that matter.

I have that Hellcat, but I want one with the larger insignia on the fuselage.

i dont have the french f-100 but i have all the rest of the french stuff (french navy stuff). i kind of have a thing for france - just got back from a month in chamonix (life is hard) which is part of why i was mostly offline for the last 2 months. it was a working holiday (as all my trips are), but still good fun.

anyway, as part of my big order yesterday i bought 2 of the french indochina b-26s on deep discount. one will stay as is, and one in my fantasies i will transform into a USN JD-1 that i keep babbling about. There's a resin convesion set from texas that also has the necessary nose cap that i will buy.

I spent a lot of time recently looking over every possible image i could find of jd-1s in various books and online sources, including both drone carriers and target tugs. my conclusion is that these were HIGHLY variable in terms of equipment. Some even still had at least one turret still on as this example shows:

there are happy fellows like this which have noses consistent with the HM release:

there's even stuff like this, though i suspect that this may be a warbird circuit one:

there are inconsistencies between various Jd-1s on nearly everything, which is good as it gives me a lot of flexibility in my rebuild. hopefully at some point we'll see it, though as i have no compressor/airbrush where i am now it will likely be up to a year before i actually get to this.

I think the lack of any VNAF Skyraiders is as perplexing an omission as it is egregious. Great schemes, great history; those RVN VNAF Spad pilots were apparently very good at their mission, many accumulating thousands of combat hours in type. Some VNAF Spads were also actually flown by USAF crews too, if broader appeal is in any way required.

Shaun's Code 3 "Crazy Water Buffaloes" clearly demonstrate some of the potential schemes' appeal, so why none from HM?

Would dearly love a big pit 'E' model remoulding too; again plenty of schemes.

Ditto A-26/B-26 early US Air Commando schemes (most started with VNAF roundels too); also the Air America crewed participants in an Indonesian coup are an interesting Cold War footnote I for one would buy!

If possible I would like early E-2A/B schemes from Yankee Station cruises. Much like actual combat Vigi schemes (one combat scheme, though released another two - non-combat - times with the rest Med/US cruises seems a wastes of opportunity, IMO at least) and Linebacker Prowlers I hope HM gets around to them among each month's VN release..

The Beaufighter is a great mould and while I have all three I want (RAAF "Green Ghost", RAAF PTO green/brown and RAAF D-Day Coastal Command) I would probably buy any future RAAF releases too.

I would love to see a de Havilland Mosquito.

As would I, however I have noticed that Corgi and HM seem to have an unwritten agreement not to step on each other toes, meaning they seem to avoid subjects the other has done or not done extensively (The P-40 seems to be the exception where both companies are actively competing). Therefore since Corgi already has several Mosquitoes in 1/72 I think its unlikely we will see one from HM.

My guess is the next WWII tooling will be something never done before, like a B-26 (Please!) or a Lockheed Hudson. Another possibility is that HM might opt to do some VVS aircraft as there is a lot of unexplored potential there.

In addition, the Corgi Mossie is really a very nice model so it’s not like HM can waltz in and blow their effort out of the water easily with a new mould..

Which reminds me, I need a few new ones to round-out my collection I only have the Pathfinder version. I'd love it Corgi would do the MK.XVIII Tsetse anti-ship version.

Unless HM decides to do the Mossie in 1/48 scale. Which I would love. For WWII fighters, the 1/48 scale is ideal in my opinion (I know there is an issue when displaying together with WWII bombers tho...).

From my past conversations with William, the next target was Zero (recently announced), and the two he is considering the most (or was at that time) were, both in 1/48 scale, P-38 and Me-262.

He say anything about 1/72?

I think FM does a 1/48 P-38 already, but a 262 would be cool.

Havent talked about 1/72, mainly because I am not that much interested in it (in terms of WWII that is). FM did the P-38 in 1/48, but finding one at a reasonable price is hard. Getting new ones would be really nice, not to mention the frequency of releases would be much better to churn out the wanted liveries. But 262 would be a real delight, I agree.
