Smile AC1008 Air Commander USAF SEA F-4E "Paper Tiger II" announced

Air Commander have just announced a new USAF SEA F-4E, "Paper Tiger II" which is another MiG Killer, this time from the 388th TFW.

This is the scheme:

I have, of course, already contacted the Armchair Aviator to pre-order mine

One can never have too many SEA Spooks

This is especially true of the Air Commander releases - these models are literally the best diecast ever released IMO, beating any other model hands down.

Due to my VN War theme being my main theme I would buy (almost) any release of an actual War scheme, but for AC I will buy even non-War schemes.

As a VN War MiG-Killer from AC this is a no brainier as far as I am concerned. I still laugh when I recall the Dear Leader returning his X-Plus VF-111 because he couldn't get the pilots in, and wonder if he now rues his stupidity or if his overweening arrogance precludes such self-reflection? I really feel that anyone who collects jets will end up kicking themselves if they miss out on these beautiful models when they eventually realise their mistake..

Funny you mention the VF-111 because out of all the Xplus / AirCom models released, that is one I do regret not getting.

And seeing how poor the state of HM spooks are now (nose cone and intake gaps, as well as overpainting in panel lines all over the model) I would probably wait till AirCom did a VF-111 rather then spend less and get an inferior model.

The Sundowners Spook was a really nice rendition of a fantastic scheme, and one of my favourite Spooks (I have quite a few..)

I didn't mean to sound harsh as it seems I may have, I am just a massive AC fan and they are my own personal "best diecast"; however, if you don't collect Spooks then obviously they aren't worth buying just because they are nice, and if you aren't fixated on trying to get as much of the fascinating Vietnam Air War represented in diecast there are of course limits on how many SEA Spooks you might want to buy!

This will be great for those who missed out on AC's "Supersonic Gun Kill" and Phantom Phanatics such as myself, but if it's not your thing that's fair enough too

All good, after seeing the poor panel line work on both the upcoming RAF spooks, I'd defo consider AirCom for future spooks in my collection.

I'll probably get this, but I gotta say that while the overall finish of the AC/Xplus phantoms make them the best in the business, there's no doubt that the style of the base camo finish probably needs tweaking - both the color and the sort of feel / feathering of the camo.

I was hoping AC would branch out a bit with an Israeli or JASDF (blue camo) F4, so this is a disappointment for me, and too similar to 'Supersonic Gun Kill' for me to get.

At least AC seem to have upped the pace of releases.

Ordered. I agree that this is the best model in the 1:72 scale being produced, well worth getting.

Be a whole lot nicer if they locked up the moving tail pieces and fixed the nose cone/pitot tube fit.

Surely nothing a little bit of enhancement with an angle-grinder/arc-welder couldn't fix, as per your usual advice?

Please do show when I have advocated the use of such tools.

I'll wait.

The moving tail pieces serve no purpose, the stand doesn't even support posing them in anyway. So what is the point?

And for all that is so great about the Rhino versions from AC. You cant say that nose pitot tube gap is really, how was it said?

Jackoff worthy

Your DIY ethos and great Code 3s are both recurring themes mate, it's a simple step to extrapolate those tools as being the appropriate next step (if required) is all I meant.

I mean, for example, your excellent tutorials about fixing the HM Fishbed pitots clearly demonstrated this approach, as have the many, many discussions about other enhancements (that's the preferred term, right?) While the Fishbed pitots required only a craft knife and some filler, for this particular case the tools mentioned above are simply the logical extension: horses for courses, you know?

I do agree both issues are weaknesses of the mould and would be nice if fixed!

It's like my Dragon F-51D with one droopy aileron, a similar useless gimmick as AC's moving surfaces which irritates me..

The pitot gap is also ugly and something that seems completely unnecessary.

Its amazing how much you sound like a bitter ex wife.

No one mentions you, ever.

I know that's hard for you to believe that, but you're just not that important.

Now go enjoy the back slapping fan boy snowflakes you have on here.

Fair enough. Perhaps I should look at fixing that stupid nose on the AC Rhinos.
