This particular Mk.1 is from No.1 Service Flight Training School based at Camp Borden, Ontario.

With over 4,400 Ansons in RCAF service during the War - will be a must for any Canadian collection.

Dan

I have another of their Anson releases and for the price am extremely impressed with the quality. It showed a late Sept availability date on the UK site where I spotted it.

I wish they would do a Mk V release as those have a history with my family.

Mk.V would be great, but would involve a major change to the tooling.

Most RCAF Ansons were Canadian built Mk.IIs (which had Jacobs engines instead of Armstrong-Siddeley Cheetahs) and Mk.Vs (which had American Wasp Junior engines and a much different fuseage).

I grew up playing pilot inside the current CWH Anson Mk V [as you illustrated] when she flew for the Exploration Department of INCO. The plywood structure was ideal for airborne magnetic surveys. There was a massive electrical coil around the aft fuselage which sent an electromagnetic field into the ground and a magnetometer, which was bomb shaped was towed on a cable behind and picked up the reflected field strength.

The pic below is [I think] JAW when she was operated by Austin for the company.

You never know.

Perhaps we'll see an Oxford Diecast RCAF Airspeed Oxford as well.

Would make the illustration below a possibility.

I have already contacted Adrienne with that suggestion [RCAF Oxbox] as they already have the mold in production.

Nice work, YOWguy. I'd buy one! I will buy this Anson too. The Lysander left a lot to be desired, but I bought one anyway. Hopefully the paint finish will be better on the Anson.

The Lysander is actually part of Oxford's cheaper line of models.

The current Anson and Oxford toolings are from the premium "Blue Box" line so both should be higher quality models.

Request for the Oxford is in and acknowledged - doesn't mean its coming but at least they have seen it.

That's good to hear. Because let's be honest, the Lysander was kind of a garbage model. Most disappointing Canadian release to date.

I sent in my BCATP Airspeed Oxford suggestion that should make a good companion for the Anson.

RCAF Oxford II Central Flying School,
RCAF Station Trenton, Ontario, 1939

Fingers crossed!

Dan

I have also followed up with Oxford. I let them know how much I appreciate their Canadian releases and that I hope they will keep them coming. Cheers, guys.

I got a quick response from Adrienne Fuller at Oxford:

Dear Patrick

Many thanks for your E Mail and comments.

We do have full reference for the RCAF Airspeed Oxford and I expect it will
be included in our range at a future date.

Kind regards, Adrienne Fuller
