Re: Air Commander F-4J VF-96 "Showtime 100" announced for release in March
AC are the best no doubt. As long as they stick with Vietnam eta Spooks I'll buy every one of them. Looking forward to this although Shawn is kinda right. Maybe we need some new themes.

Excellent photos abdner! No doubt helped by an outstanding model but lighting and composition is top notched. Please continue taking more photos of other models.

yeah that's true and it seems that this 'Showtime 100' is their most popular release... my favorite is still the 'Supersonic gun kill' with that cool SEA camo scheme...

Thx for your encouragement TooBeaucoup! I think the fantastic model from aircommander is the most helpful to my photoes undoubtedly, so i'll try to snap continuously if the same class of model appears, maybe calibre wings tomcats.
Re: Air Commander F-4J VF-96 "Showtime 100" announced for release in March
just had a peek at my copy of this. it's basically the same as the silver kings version except obviously for the places where the livery differs. both are spectacular models. you can argue that the stencils are too high contrast when viewed close up or at 90 degree angles, but they give the right effect when viewed at more natural distances and angles due to scale effects. both might be the best 1/72 jet aircraft ever made in diecast or at least they're serious candidates for that crown (maybe some of the CWs might also have a claim).
Re: Air Commander F-4J VF-96 "Showtime 100" announced for release in March
Mine arrived yesterday. It is indeed very impressive and I do not regret selling my HM version to replace it with this. I was however, surprised by some issues with quality control. I had to breakdown the nose gear and do a little trimming to get it to fit into the fuselage. Turned out fine though. Also, while not a be QC issue, it is terribly difficult to get the pilots into their seat and I had to resort to amputation of some legs. That is not the first time I have to do so with other models too and I do prefer permanently placing pilots into cockpits. Still, all in all, a superb model I am glad to have.

it's a tight squeeze, but i didn't have to resort to amputations to get randy into the cockpit
Re: Air Commander F-4J VF-96 "Showtime 100" announced for release in March
One additional comment I will add. I think I alluded to the fact that IMO I think this model is, all things considered, better than the Hobby Master version, but it's a win-win. If you have the Hobby Master and hang on to it, no regrets. If you don't have the Hobby Master and opted for the AC, or sold the HM in anticipation of getting the AC, even better. If you have both, you are in the cat bird's seat. Like I said, I'm glad to have the AC.
One thing I really, really like about the AC version is that the Pilots actually sit higher, like in a real airplane. I have always disliked how HM crews a seated way too low. It just looks stupid.
Re: Air Commander F-4J VF-96 "Showtime 100" announced for release in March
I'm fairly new to diecast collecting and had purchased the AC Showtime 100 (my first AC) from the Flying Mule. Very impressive detail! I usually display w/ gear down and canopies up. But after struggling for a long time to get the forward canopy to open to an acceptable degree, and then to get both pilots in, I gave up on both endeavors. In a fit of frustration I ended up returning the plane.
Is there a trick to getting the pilots in??? At least if I can do that I could display with the canopies down. Considering re-purchasing it...

They are and some of us have squeezed them in the AC models. I didn't bite on this ST100 just because it has the Rockeyes, so I can't say for this release.
Re: Air Commander F-4J VF-96 "Showtime 100" announced for release in March
HM pilots fit much more easily - can confirm as I usually use them in AC Spooks, then place the AC crew in HM models..
Problem solved.
I have also used the amputation method too, but prefer HM pilots in case of resale. It's not as though you can actually see the missing legs under any circumstances through, you only need to chop the pilot's legs at the knees
Re: Air Commander F-4J VF-96 "Showtime 100" announced for release in March
OK, that begs the next silly question, do all HM 1:72 pilots "dress" alike or would I having to obtain them specifically from a Vietnam F-4. I don't have any other F-4s. I have one from an F-105 Thunderchief and one from an A-1H Skyraider and they're different sizes... but at least their uniforms look the same. I'd just have to find out who was the shorter of the two, Cunningham or Driscoll, and who sat in the front...
Re: Air Commander F-4J VF-96 "Showtime 100" announced for release in March
I like to use A-1 pilots as the big AC figures look good in the Spad's 'pit..
Just personal preference though. I would suggest putting the smaller guy in front for ease of fitment; it's actually pretty easy to get AC RIOs into their correct spot, although a brace of HM pilots match each other more closely so there is that.
Re: Air Commander F-4J VF-96 "Showtime 100" announced for release in March
Just ordered 4 pilots from HM for $5 incl. shipping. Also pre-ordered the Paper Tiger Phantom... but will be a long wait as it's slated for Jan 2018 @ The Flying Mule.
Re: Air Commander F-4J VF-96 "Showtime 100" announced for release in March
Got the Showtime in HKG last week and man, it is a real good lookin model. Won't be my last AC as I have several older ones incoming! Fitting in the 2 pilots was a right bit** but managed to in the end.
BTW, is the Rockeye CBU loadout accurate or common? Am looking for Supersonic Gun Kill, anyone letting go a spare kindly let me know pls? Long shot I know

I agree. In my mind, for $140 + shipping the canopy should be designed to open as it should. The fact that this is a recurring issue on many if not all AC Phantoms is clearly a design flaw, and in my opinion a serious one since many collectors (including myself) prefer to display canopies up. If enough models are returned to the dealer, maybe—just maybe—the dealer will let the manufacturer know, "Hey what gives? Too many people are returning these for the same issue." By now I'm sure AC is aware of the problem but are unwilling to throw money into correcting it because sucke... er, I mean, collectors buy the planes anyway with a reverent bow and a hearty, "thank you sir, may I have another!"
So, this sucker (yours truly) will now be forced to display with canopies down assuming I am able to squeeze HM pilots into the AC cockpits.
