Default eBay surprise

At a time when the "value" of all but some of the very best diecast models is crashing, I was a bit surprised to find this:

Hobby Master HA1218 1/72 Grumman TBM Avenger USN USS Intrepid Sinking Yamato | eBay

GBP 77 and climbing for a very very generic, below average quality hobbymaster TBM. ok, i get that it's a little HTF now, but, really?

well, good luck for the seller, I suppose.

I haven't checked on the GBP's post-Brexit slide that recently, but there is nowhere near the difference between that and the AUD we used to see.

Next month I will be in the UK on holiday, and my hope is by then we might even achieve parity with AUD $1 == GBP £1

Even if not quite that good, I am certainly hoping to pick up some bargains while there!

To be fair, I paid about 80 EUROS for my Intrepid TBM so what the seller is asking for is on par with what I paid.

ok guys, maybe you paid whatever you paid wherever you are, but this thing was going unsold at GBP 24.99 not too long ago in britain. and, while maybe its marginally more historically important than some other avengers, it's a pretty low quality model. but, as i said, good for the sellers and buyer if all get what they want.

Sometimes you can't believe these crazy things.

There are always going to be a few people who try to sell models for well above their worth. Just because it's listed, doesn't mean anyone is going to buy it.

I bought mine in a brick and mortar shop which is always the more expensive way. However I wanted this particular bird for sentimental value (the USS Intrepid reminds me of home), therefore I was willing to pay abit more for it.

I would probably not pay the same for another single tone TBM.
