I really want to see this one too. I have the Dragon 1/72, but this would be great in 1/48.

Yes, I also have the Dragon but I really don’t like the Christmas green colour that was used on the cowling. Hopefully, it will be the correct colour on the HM version.

Hello,
I've been reading this forum for a while now and thought it was time to join. I plan on purchasing this model and I was wondering if there has ever been or will be a 1/72 or 1/48 scale die cast model of the Bell X-1 that Yeager flew to break the sound barrier? So far, I've only found a 1/144 scale model from Dragon Models. Thanks for any help.

Dragon's 1/144 version is the only release so far.

Why? Of course not!

That would be insulting the intelligence of a fellow forum member - which would be against the rules.

Good seeing the updates posted again. On the downside, the diecast wallet is certainly going to take a bashing

It looks nice despite the cut in the wings for the gun ports:

Yeagers P-51 was known for having sloppy gun ports. His crew chief drove nails into the wing root to stop the vibration of the guns hoping for better accuracy when they fired.
It's a shame HM cut that portion out, it really takes away from what had been a great modeled wing. I like this livery so much, I will buy it but after this, hard to do so again with the mutilated wing.

Yeah, why those deep cuts on this version? I have an earlier D model and it doesn’t have those unsightly cuts...

Basically HM used the same wing for both D and B variants of the P-51. The wing guns are different for both hence the cuts. It's likely your early D release was done at the time HM wasn't doing a B.

However, the wings for B and D are in reality are quite different and it's not just the guns. What HM should have done is left the D wing alone and produced a separate B wing based on the one in the 1/48 Tamiya P-51B model kit. That kit is generally regarded as excellent.

Can't really tell, the landing gear might not be fully plugged in. I don't recall seeing any comments about the stance being too high on the models released so far.

Sorry, but I think that's entirely wrong. HM has produced different B and D wings (for all but the first B/C release, IIRC, and maybe they even did it for that one - i forgot if they got in intime).

Check the top views of the model pics and see for yourself. Look at the leading edge wing roots and note the different angles between the B/C wings and the D wings.

Can certainly see a difference between the wings but why the slot cut out for the gun mounts on both versions of the wing. The assumption has been the same wing was used but didn't think it was possible to also incorporate the differences.

The first one they did miss as I can remember the complaints being posted on the forums.
