Default Flight Demonstration Teams - Collecting

Greetings, I have been contemplating on possibly starting to collect diecast aircraft representing demonstration teams from the four corners of this planet.

It would be, if available, just one aircraft out of each team, not the entire team. As you may know, or may not know, I already have diecast Blue Angels coming out of my ears. However I do not have any other demonstration teams planes represented in my entire collection with other planes I have as well.

Here is a link to a list of worldwide demonstration teams:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...stration_teams

If I go down this $$ road......I would like to stick to 1/72 scale...but if I have to stray into other scales because that is where I would find what I can't find in 1/72....I would consider that.

For sure not all planes on the linked list have ever been produced or is available and some no doubt to be bought at the high prices of eBay.

I'm aware of already produced planes like the USAF Thunderbirds, Ukrainian Falcons, and some others.

Has anyone here already gone down this road? If so can you share your experience in amassing your collection? Perhaps post a pic of your flight line of planes from worldwide demonstration teams.

For me this would no doubt be costly should I go this route. I do though, enjoy the aerobatics of any team I see live or in videos.

I have compiled a nearly complete list of all the 1:72 team planes as future planes for my my wishlist. I'm a huge fan of the team aircraft. Hopefully that can help you get started. The reason it's incomplete is for not including some of the very small and obscure teams that no longer exist. There are a handful of Skymax Strikemasters and Corgi EE Lightnings that I "skipped." I'll put up the list in a few hours

Very cool Blues Boy.

This isn't on your list of flight demonstration teams, but you could start with this Witty 1:72 F-16 Indonesian AF Elang Biru Team:

F 16 Indonesian AF Elang Biru Team 1 72 Scale Diecast Metal BY Witty Wings | eBay

I've bought from this guy before and he seems reliable.

Thanx ..... K. For now I'm in the discovery stage and not ready to commit to going down this road yet. Since others also may make great suggestions......what is posted on this thread will be there for me to revisit. Should I decide to dive in.

BTW....your suggested seller does have his own website.....I like some of the picture spreads he does to showcase the aircraft offerings:

I included single aircraft demo teams since it may fit your ideas. Or maybe you'll see the length of this list and choose to do only multiple aircraft teams ;-) Missing again are- EE Lightnings (Corgi), Jet Provosts (Skymax), a few Russian Knights/Swifts of similar livery to those below. For some very popular aircraft I only included one release (I.E. Angels F-18, TB F-16, Red Arrows Hawk). I'm all ears if anyone can find others!

Nice list SE94......you've done a lot of compiling. So much so, I created a spreadsheet based off of the wiki demonstration teams list...made extra columns for part numbers and pricing. I have already taken the liberty at your labor to copy off some part numbers from your list into the part number spreadsheet I created. Thanx for some of that info.

Btw....I already have all scales of the diecast Blue Angels...see my post titled "In Honor of the Blue Angels 75th..."

I'll wait for some more posted suggestions, etc. before making some sort of decision.

Thanx Again,

There's a variety of Patrouille Suisse F-5Es around:

HA3312, HA3316, HA3321, HA3323.

These are really nice. Differences are minor, so any one would be a nice addition. They do pop up on eBay often and probably some are still available at regular shops.

Wellllll, much to the teeth grinding of my better half, my contemplation of putting together a collection of Demonstration Team planes is over.

I will in fact, be putting a Demonstration Team collection together, representing countries from around the world .

It will be one plane from each team, as I find it, that has been produced in 1/72. Costs for some HTF will also be a consideration as per my better half

Of course, it will be a work in progress over time (years), like most collections. Whenever the day comes that I have a decent number of planes in my flight line....I will post a pic.

Oh boy....here we go.......( I hope my better half does not hide my wallet! )

Hope you find something suitable for the CT-114 Tutor (Canadian Snowbirds). No diecast or even premade model other than wood ones are available (afaik) but maybe we might hit it lucky someday soon and see one released. Meanwhile there is the Hobbycraft 1/72 kit if that works for you.

It's a shame Falcon never got around to doing a Snowbirds T-33 before they vanished. I wonder what happened to those molds...

This may qualify as a "premade model"...albeit I used the search words Canadian Snowbirds Toy Airplane in Google Images....perhaps you can track it source by contacting Fishpond. It says Brand AirCraft Models....but you know and I know.....it's too generic in a normal search.

The material is unknown, but hey, Good Luck. I'll pass on this forensic search.

It is a shame...no normal diecast can be found...that I can see.

Does anyone have an opinion on which aircraft is favored over the other when it comes to the Corgi Golden Hawk Sabre vs the HM Golden Hawk Sabre....

Since a Snowbirds 1/72 in Diecast has not been produced....a Golden Hawk is my other choice. The T-33 Golden Hawk is not an option since it mostly played a support role on the team.....besides I have always like the Sabre aircraft and I don't have one yet.

Thanks in advance,

BB

As far I can remember from threads when the HM Golden Hawk was released, opinion was in favour of HMs.

There should be one or more threads on the Sabre on this forum.

That would be a reasonable assumption to make. The Corgi model has a few errors and those are mentioned in Dan's review

I have the following Corgi list of Red Hawks findings:

AA36001
AA36008
AA36011
AA36012
CC99301
CS90561
CS90616

Any other brand?....

Thanks In Advance

Thanx EF....I actually went with the RAF Brand you suggested....it was low cost, has landing gear....and I was pleased to see two pilots! I did not expect that detail for the low cost. It's not meticulously detailed as what some actual photo's show....but I'm satisfied...and in the end, that's all that counts

Just recently starting this Demonstration Teams collecting focus, I have purchased 19 new aircraft representing different countries around the world. Total current cost 1087.92 USD (includes shipping, free shipping, taxes, no taxes, SALE % off savings).

No matter what the price of each 1/72 plane individually, the "average" cost of each plane stands currently at 57.26 USD per plane (1087.92/19= 57.26).

So far...the actual lowest priced plane: KH Norton - RAF Brand - RAF Red Hawks -Model No. 40608

So far...the actual highest priced plane: Models Navigator - Phoenix Brand - Slovakian "Biele Albatrosy" White Albatrosses - Model No. PHO-072-003

Two aircraft coming soon and are preorders ....the Singapore RSAF Black Knights (I already pre-ordered this plane) and the Taiwan Thunder Tigers (I have not preordered this plane yet).

The Corgi Sabre has the wrong wings and the wrong colour of gold. It does have better detail on the air brakes, but that's about it.

Off the beaten path a little, but.....from the Civilian Demonstration Team side

I remember when the Coors Silver Bullet team of 2 Bede BD-5J's jets were making the Airshow circuit.

Link to vid of performance:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=18g8g5oJPRc

Link to a review, as I seen it in Popular Science Magazine when I was a kid...it's the prop version as a kit....boy did I want it:

BD-5 review

Surprisingly, it may still be available...at least the Microjet version:

BD-Micro.com - FLS Microjet

Also, look at Google Images using Bede BD-5J search words....there's a bunch with different schemes.

Enjoy

Calibre Wings also have an F-16 model in 1/144 available in RSAF Black Knights display team colours, with the Thunderbirds set to follow.

They actually sell both individual aircraft and the entire team as a set.

Greetings, Some hopeful news to share. Based on ACpilot mentioning that the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum was coming out with there 3rd exclusive 1/72 diecast AVRO, I took the liberty of contacting them about exclusively custom ordering a 1/72 diecast Canadian Snowbird CT-114 Tudor....Cross your fingers and your welcome in advance....below is the email trail.

BB

Greetings! To Whom It May Concern,

We of the 1/72 Diecast aircraft community of collectors would like to know, if it is possible for Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum to exclusively custom order and sell a 1/72 Diecast Canadian Snowbirds CT-114 Tudor aircraft. Perhaps a run of 1000pcs?

We are aware of Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum being able to do such exclusive custom ordering since it has already been selling exclusive AVRO's.

No where, currently or in the past, that we are aware of, has anyone ever produced (MFG) or sold (Retail) a Diecast metal airplane representing the World famous Canadian Snowbirds with it's CT-114 Tudor aircraft in any Diecast metal scale. No one has produced a Diecast CT-114 Tudor for any other representation reason.

We collectors question how is that possible?

In the 1/72 Diecast scale alone, there are some 20 Diecast aircraft available that represent Aerobatic Demonstration Teams from all over the World.

To be fair, there is a 1/72 Diecast Canadian Golden Hawks Canadair Sabre that has been produced. However, the current Snowbirds CT-114 Tudor is a highly desirable aircraft collectors have been waiting and waiting for someone to produce.

Thanks for your suggestion. We agree that the Tutor would be a great subject for a future diecast project. Keep in mind, we already do have a few projects underway and it can take close to a year from initial planning until the product hits the shelf.

Take care.

Greetings,

A MFG company named Air Force 1 Model in China has produced a 1/72 Diecast metal model MB339 airplane with the UAE Fursan aerobatic team scheme.

Since they now have a new 1/72 scale tooling mold of the MB339 airplane, perhaps you can request to manufacture a custom order, with your Italeri packaging, a limited quantity of 1/72 Diecast metal model of the MB339 Italy Frecce Tricolori aerobatic team scheme. You have the exclusive license for the Frecce Tricolori from the Aeronautica Militare Italiana.

I know Italari already makes the 1/100 scale Frecce Tricolori, However, no one has ever produced the Frecce Tricolori airplane in 1/72 Diecast metal because the mold was not available from a MFG before.

Now the tooling mold for 1/72 Diecast metal MB339 is available from Air Force 1 Model MFG.

As a collector of 1/72 scale Diecast metal airplanes, I would purchase a 1/72 Diecast metal Frecce Tricolori airplane.

Please reply with your opinion.

Thank You!

Shame about the painted canopy. I prefer the other one. Thanks for the tip all the same.

Greetings.....I learned something new today!

Months ago I bought the diecast 1/72 Sunstar Air Command Thunderbirds from eBay.

At the time there was no picture that showed the side of the plane. But it was so dirt cheap...I said what the hey....ill buy it. Well when it got to me, as I looked at it, I went into shock because the numeral 5 tampo on both sides of the air intake were upside down. I was disappointed to the point of deciding whether or not to return for a refund or write negative feedback. After calming down....I figured I could probably get a model decal of the numeral 5 and place it over the upside down one. No biggy. I came to the conclusion that's why it was so cheap, because of the upside placement defected tampo. Don't get me wrong, over all it's a decent model.

Well today, what I should have done months back....was to research the number 5 Thunderbird. Low and behold.....the numeral 5 is SUPPOSE TO BE UPSIDE DOWN!

It turns out this is because Thunderbird 5 is the lead solo, and spends almost all of it's time inverted. What a revelation

BB

Good for you! The CT-114 is conspicuously absent from the diecast world. I would love to see a Snowbirds Tutor in 1/72 or 1/200. I would definitely collect them all. I saw the Snowbirds perform at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh in July and was absolutely amazed. It was one of the best aerobatic demos I have ever seen. Our Canadian friends should be proud!

I have found the 1/72 Jet Provosts by SkyMax to be an exceptionally well-made substitute while we wait for a CT-114.

Jet Provosts on display

Cheers,
