That's true. The gun's do make things a bit more 'interesting' though.

That's very overblown as well...I'm from the western US, gun country, and most everybody has several guns. Just not a big deal.

People don't tend to get hatcheted to death in the streets here either.

when the HCSO helicopter is flying over your house at 11:00 PM looking for suspects, its nice having a gun just incase its your house they choose to break into trying to hide....and Tampa is far from the worst city as far as criminal activity.

You have helicopters flying over your city at 11:00 PM but the potential for violence is "overblown"... Funny what we get used to.

TPD helicopter handles the actual city of Tampa, HCSO handles the outskirts and suburbs of Tampa

Here in the lower mainland area of British Columbia the police have themselves a couple of armored vehicles that have no clear purpose. While there are a number of shootings that occur there are nowhere near enough to warrant armored vehicles here. I think that part of the problem is that all of the police departments want the newest and coolest tools for the job, however, I do not think that they have to overly militarize themselves for the difficult job that they do. While this may be controversial in many areas, I can only comment on the Vancouver area itself. Also, I fully support the police use of helicopters as they have a perspective from the air that the ground cops will never have - but I think it is only a matter of time until they use drones for this work as that would be considerably cheaper. Just my thoughts on the matter. But, alas this has nothing to do with the F-14

Yep, 001614 is still about, so were the two grey VF-41 birds back in the day in fact I bought spares when the Mule had them discounted. Now try buying one, you'll pay $250+ let alone every other of CW's F-14 releases which have appreciated consistently on the secondary market.

My point was for Surinam Air - if you are buying to speculate then do so with caution and chose a brand with a sound track record of appreciating values and if I was to be 'investing' it would be with the upcoming CW JR 10th anniversary release.

Ahh... the good ol' rolling eyes smilie, my fave

Horses for courses old chap - at the time Iran was an ally hence why they were allowed the F-14 & the Phoenix missiles to go with it. If I was to limit my collection to just what I considered 'friendlies' I'd be all the poorer for it, I'm rather fond of my Japanese & German models and a few MiG's & Sukhoi's

As for collecting each side in modelling, I believe collectors do have their own individual view points of "good and evil" but for collecting, many look to having models that represent both sides of conflict.
Whether for the subject matter of aviation technologies and or for display of a world political view of aviation, including potential conflicts. Even those who fly fighters in peace and conflict study the other sides aircraft to understand how potential interactions can play out and to give a respectable point of view towards each sides capabilities.

Whether you collect for the cool factor of designs or for whom you feel is righteous or you just love aviation, understand and try to hold respect that this is a forum about collecting aviation models.
I think the mods would prefer that any opinions and conflict in the political spectrum plays itself outside of this forum.

Trying to take a more polite manner, not brusque or in your face. I could post pictures of my collection of just certain nations, which is a stance in itself. I guess it is just where do you want to draw the line of what is going too far. There are absolute in what is good and what is evil. If you want to get absolutely politically correct, you need to be banned from the net. Because as P.T. Barnum noted, you cannot please all of the people all of the time.

I don't really buy IDF models either but I do have two F-16's. I would GLADLY buy an Israeli aircraft over any Iranian aircraft, any day of the week.

Back to the Tomcat, I think it's an interesting scheme. If we saw one of these schemes by CW on ebay i'm sure many ppl here would snap it up at that price! For me, I'm on the fence. got CW aarvark, CW JW, HM JW... my wallet is emptying FAST!

It's murderous on the wallet, isn't it? I really want this, the Aardvarks and the CW Anniversary JR - together with everything else HM have in the pipeline it's going to be a pricey few months

I have a question guys, any help is welcome. I have the CW IRIAF one, but the pilot tube accidentally broke. Is there a way to repair it? I saw that there is an after market pilot tube from bronze or maybe copper in 1/72.... is it possible to attach that to the model in a way that does not look crappy? Epap please help.
Thanks in advance.

Your profile location is a tad vague, if you are in the Sahara then I'm not sure who the African distributor is, if you are in the US send a note to the US distributor - The Flying Mule. They have sent me replacements before

Good luck

Its rubber/plastic. cut the tips and replace it with a plastic one eg model kit.

For the pitot tube, go to https://www.hlj.com/ Hobby Link Japan, a great source for the hard to find model parts.

My small Iran-Iraq war collection, with the Tomcat without pilot tube.
The Su-7 and the Mig-23 were kits that I made.

Very nice Moscarron

I also have the HM F-4 & F-4 along with the CW F-14. Never displayed them but they add an interesting and colourful theme to any collection

You make it sound like a game. Sure I'll play. Its like 'Spotting the difference'.
So just for you, here's what I found:
- wrong colour on fuselage gear door. Should be the underside colour, not the sand colour.
- weapons not as detailed, but thats normal.
- seats are still too low
- could be the lighting, but the main colour looks a little too light or needs a more pinkish hue to it.

But that being said, it looks like a solid model.

My biggest problem with this model is that it is an IRIAF Tomcat...

I reckon this will be my first HM Tomcat AND my first desert camo/ME plane.

I think it's looking pretty good, great splinter camo.

- weapons not as detailed, but thats normal.

But that being said, it looks like a solid model.
Sidewinders are closer to the Iranian ones than CW issued. They put too modern version AIM-9L underneath. HM has AIM-9 style Sidewinders which are much closer to the AIM-9E/J/P Iran/Persia got.

very nicely done, this. my fear that the paint was laid on thinly was unfounded. overpaint on the phoenix missiles and lack of detailing is hm's archilles heel. the color straight from my phone is off so don't use it as a reference. if you can, go have a look at the actual thing before you decide to part with your cold hard cash. it's a nice addition to my tomcat collection, that's for sure...
