not the biggest JR fan out there, but the box looks really good. This will be a very cool release indeed

I've already placed my pre-order in case it does become no longer available to order. The UK retailer is quoting a July delivery although it's not a problem for me should it end up as December. I think the CW anniversary month is November anyway.

Production in July (perhaps until beginning August), shipping from China to Europe 6-8 weeks, organising at retailers for shipping to customers 1 week, delivery to collectors 1 week... --> I open the package and will be happy at end of September/beginning of October (my birthday is at 19.10. )
This could be a birthday present for myself

Greetings

Presumably to give to friends and family as gifts as opposed to selling them on ebay for a huge profit after the model is sold out at retailers

I probably should buy 1 or 2 more just to help offset the cost of F-14's I've spent money on lately.

Doing good! My Harley is pushing 90,000 miles. Hoping to hit 100,000 by next year.

We closed our retail store after 20 years just working it a little from home along with my regular job.

I'm not concerned about the nose gear. In this scale, the difference between a completely uncompressed front oleo on the nose gear and what they have now would be nearly unnoticeable. I also wouldn't get your hopes up too high about a compressed nose gear, they're not marketing this as a "launch" version.

Is it possible both launch and landing could be done with optional parts? If it involves minimal effort, might be worth CW doing to further enhance the appeal of the model.

They would need to make a new blister pack because the one they have can't hold 2 sets of gears. That not only means delays again, but also limited room for ordnance. People would no doubt be up in arms that a landing config lacked phoenix, sparrow, and sidewinder missiles because....reasons. Also arnt the differences between a tomcat launching and a tomcat landing more than just the gears being elongated? Regardless I'm not keen on yet another delayed pre order myself.

Doesn't have to be in the blister pack, they could just put it in a separate bag like they do with the stand. I did say in my posting only if it involves minimal effort no delays included.

don't mind me, still butt hurt about everything I've ordered since February being either cancelled or delayed. Sure getting the Aardvarks in will help soothe that some.

for most navy aircrafts , there are 3 different positions that could be noticed....take off position with the gear compressed downwards and nose gear hook pointed down, a normal postion when just on the deck and , landing with extended landing gear....and thats the main differences...

Flaps are likely not at full down for takeoff, there's another difference.

For a catapult launch the flaps are fully deployed.

The Tomcat is one of few, if not the only one, that actually compressed the front strut or "kneel" at take off. Some actually raised the nose (F-4, A-4) but most stayed at the same height, they would just drop the launch bar.

if CW really decided to make just landing configuration.....they should note down the real characteristic of the aircraft while landing on a flighdeck... can Always refer at you tube how the tomcats comes down for a landing....

I never said anything about how they launched, I was talking about their nose height/ nose gear extension.

Yeah and the strut compression isn't a hydraulic function at all either. Just thrust vs applied brakes from the holdback bar.

You sure about flaps full? Not half, or 3/4? Seems like a lot of drag. I'm no expert on the F-14, not sure if it has multiple flap steps or not.

No, it is definitely a hydraulic function. There's a switch to drop the nose down. I actually saw 4 Tomcats at the Oceana Airshow in 2006 line up and take a final bow, it was pretty awesome.

Go to minute 20:28 in this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyuMKZA5tLk

As for the drag of the flaps, the catapult and engines will take care of the drag. Lift in such a short runway situation like a catapult launch is just as important.

I stand corrected, you are absolutely right. I just looked up the NATOPS for the F-14 and I'll attach it when I'm less tired.

Nicely visible in the video, thanks.

What´s for steam / smoke / whatever stuff coming from behind the front landing gear at 20:48? They´re flushing the toilets or what?

Still can't tell if they have extended gear. From the diagram on the CW site, looks to me like the same config from previous releases...

Oh dear, CW copied HM's mistake and did the silver all the way to the base of the fins AND some of the black at the top bleed onto the silver, rookie mistakes on a model celebrating 10 yrs

Looks okay to me, but boy does it sit goofy on the stand. But that's with nozzles open.

So I should see this, in the US in...September?

Looks nice to me as well.

F-14A Tomcat U.S.Navy VF-84 JOLLY ROGERS AJ200 1978 USS NIMITS (Flap & Slat Down)

My concern would be I sincerely hope they don't change USS NIMITZ to USS NIMITS as per their title.

Although they did let the silver run all the way down the fin (I remember, like UF, all the comments about HM's mistake), the bleeding UF refers to is a case of bad lighting during photography I think. Compare above photo to this one:

I am obviously not sure about this, but the silver does look much better in the wide shots.

Oh and it looks like CW finally tightened up their fuselage parts a bit, hardly any gap on this one.

CW is improving the seam lines and they are more tightened than few previous release. See the red intake stencil, it seemed the angle is not right?

i can't imagine why, other than price, anybody would bother with the HM model over this one. Sure, the CW isn't perfect (what is), but... i mean.. really.. this model almost exists to take the piss out of HM to highlight areas where HM skimps on finish detail. Of course, not that CW's releases prior to this were that great nor is hm's JR tomcat bad, but still... if you have money to spend why not spend it on the cw?

I'm saving my money for Calibre's Tomcats. This landing config version doesn't appeal to me anyways.

Therein is the point, neither CW or HM F-14's are bad and entirely up to the collector which one they prefer. One could almost draw a conspiracy theory that both CW and HM done different configurations so as not to affect each others JR sales "too much"

Calibre isn't really in the equation until such time we see the finished model and even after then, the price increase could knock a few points off.

No, you just have to look at CW's very first release to shut down that theory. They've already done it with normal config.

I don't know, some may point at the re-release of the "limited edition" Rapid Rabbit and CW could have done it in normal config if they decided to. There would be differences this time round such as the magnetic gear
