I remember paying AUD$70+ for my CW version. This would be AUD$200+ in retailers.

Nice - even though it is about $165 CAN ($122US with discount) - it is still much cheaper than a CW VF-84 which are routinely selling for well north of $200US and a definite add to my expanding collection

Yeah I'm not trying to be a prick but there are a few that could have been done before HM flopped this one out, like hi viz pukin dogs, Tophatters, gez maybe more black aces, just anything but another JR

But it'll be good for newbies who missed out on the CW versionS lol

acp, i think you know why this happening, no? at the back of mind i can think of one: the distributor that announces this first has a higher chance of securing the pre-orders so they're not gonna wait for official announcements and allow other distributors the unfair advantages.

you're a prick

now with that said, this will be one of hm's sellout in a long long time although i am guessing higher than normal production run for this scheme that people will think they're collecting dust on the shelves.

I feel like everyone should buy this one if nothing else for appreciation of value which is what Im doing. Tomcat will always sell, JR will always sell.

I'm inclined to agree, JR schemes generally have sold rather well particularly the high vis ones. If you want to go into "conspiracy theory" perhaps HM wanted to release one before CW released another JR.

I for one am quite happy to be able to afford a Jolly Rogers F-14. Is it the most exciting release, no. Is it great for those not able to afford a nearly identical CW plane, absolutely

Guess for me is the movie "The Final Countdown" where we see JR in actions splashing 2 Jap Zeros.

What better way for HM to get a quick return on their investment in the F-14 mould? I'll be glad to get one.

Great news for newbies like me. In for one! HM should consider milking this mold for all it's worth. Put out 2 tomcats a month! With economies of scale in effect, lower the dang price to $100 and bring in more hobbyists. A guy can dream....

Unfortunately with the rising costs of manufacturing diecasts as well as an uncertain China economy it's unlikely there will be any price reductions.

Given the HM piece is inferior in paint quality and the lack of ordinance, as well certain inaccuracies, the options to be competitive are cut the price or improve the quality and options of add ons.
The complexity of the model along with the cost of production makes it hard to cut the price. HM will need to step up the game on this model to truly compete. More over, the Jolly Rogers has quite the following in the Asian market, so it WILL be critiqued there. For HM to "solidify" it's reputation, it will need to step up on all accounts with this or accept a poorer reputation within that market.
Given the last two models, HM needs to REALLY pay attention and go all out on this piece, quite a bit more rides on it now. The Asian market demands better, the reason you see HM pop more detailing on the Japanese models. Which surprises me as I would have thought they would wait a bit longer to insure they could produce this on it's best footing. A risky move for them at this stage.

I read what you wrote in the other thread. Compelling reason indeed. The least they could do if they're charging these prices is to ensure the QC and product is top notch, befitting their asking price. As it is, my CW F-14s pilots have suffered extreme decompression from gaps in the fuselage and canopy. My HM F-4s wobble and tumble over if i sneezed 2 rooms away .

trip... i don't think it's just the asians that follow the jr. i mean just looking at how vfa103 adopted the skull and crossbones upon the retirementof vf84 clearly indicates that it has a place within usn itself. and i don't think it's just the asian market that created the demand for the numerous cw jr releases. if so, it's a huge market and hm shd be doing more regional jets... which incidentally means more ruskies. perhaps piracy has a global reach

toobeaucoup...yeah, i know exactly what you mean about the cw tomcats and hm spooks. but hey, we still buy them nevertheless, right?

Oh, I did not say it was the Asian market ONLY that creates demand for this, just that that market has a high demand for this model and also expects excellence from such.

my bad then. a thousand apologies. but i do believe all markets have high demand for this seeing how cw's numerous jr variants are difficult to get. anyway, it's a good thing that they expect excellence. perhaps then hm will step up their game...

does HM really uses a lower grade paint on its models than CW does?
because I remember HM claimed that they use the same grade as CW.

It's the same paint.

In fact, Hobby Master manufactured the first CW F-14 releases.

I guess I missed the part where everyone was bitching and moaning. I have no problem with the release, I just wonder why more squadrons aren't done. There are squadrons with more bombs dropped, aerial victories and deeper historical roots. How about a Swordsman or Tophatter?

The really cool pirate theme is the reason that JR tomcats are so special lol! As for all the b*tching and moaning, there will be plenty of folk that will be happy to see these hit the shelves. I'm one of them. A high viz Pukin dogs will be awesome tho, sure it will happen soon enuff. In the mean time, I'm looking forward to adding this and the 70s Aardvarks F-14 to my collection!

Probably never given the fact that it couldn't launch off a ship with that load.

All true, but the fact appears to be that 'Jolly Rogers ' has the most global appeal. So I can't blame manufacturers for favouring it. I certainly am drawn to it as pirates are cool! Lol

Seriously though i'd love an Iranian Tomcat, with the colour scheme and combat history. Guess my wait continues.

This is great news for those who missed out on the Century Wings versions of these like myself. For the 400-plus dollars they sell for on eBay this is definitely going to be a great alternative

Yes they could and did. They just couldn't bring them all back as it exceeded its landing weight limit. So they had to be fired off in exercises.
