Default Witty EA-18G Growler

How many different schemes did Witty do on the Growler..??

I'm coming up with four that I can find right now...

VAQ-129 Vikings CONA WWII Sky Pirates scheme
VAQ-132 Scorpions
VAQ-129 Vikings CAG
VAQ-141 Shadowhawks

Any others out there..??

Thanks for the reply. It's kind of what I gathered from searching out images ect. on the net. It's too bad they didn't crank out a few more Growler schemes before they went belly up, there are plenty of nice ones available, and perhaps someone will pick up the Witty mold and run with it someday. Thanks again.

VAQ-135. It has to be done. We're too close to having my collection complete.

My bad, was thinking Prowlers.

the witty mould is incorrect btw, like their legacy hornet- it should be based on the super hornet mould. HM would be better.

Great choice. Not sure on the Prowler, but a Black Ravens Growler could certainly find a place in my collection. Considering HM won't even release their first super bug until late spring of next year, a Growler from them could be a very long wait, like forever.

Nice collection, I have them all as well but only the red Vikings is on display, the others are still in the box for the time being. The blue Vikings wasn't my favorite, but the scheme grows on you after a while and is actually quite attractive. I wish Witty had been able to make a few more Growlers before going OOB, but perhaps the mold will be resurrected one day. I doubt HM is going to do a Growler anytime soon if at all.

Late to the discussion again. Got to agree that the blue Growler is a beauty. It didn't seem to be as popular as the other liveries, but the centennial paint really looks good to me:

Yes, it's based on the Super Bug, I don't know where he got the idea it's based on the legacy Hornet mold but he's wrong.

The real Growler is virtually identical to the super hornet except for a few very minor refinements like the shape of the dogstooth, and wing fences. The wing fences are correctly modeled on the Witty growler but the dogstooth is a carry over from the Super Bug, so that's really the only flaw in the Witty Growler. Oh, and I almost forgot the 1cm high (on the real ac) aileron tripper strips which aren't present on the Witty Growler, but they'd be impossible so see with the naked eye anyway @ 1/72 scale, so that's a non-issue as far as I'm concerned.

And Skinner67.... Your pic really shows off the scheme on the blue Growler, very nice!!

Care to explain what you mean?

Witty's Growlers are pretty damn good, looking forward to hearing why you think they are incorrect.

It would appear I'm mistaken. I was going by what I'd previously read on one of the diecast forums, that it has the incorrect airbrake of the Legacy Hornet- but it doesn't.

Oddly enough, not all of the Dragon Super Bug's suffer from the speed brake problem. "Black Aces" and "Gunslingers" are two examples that I know of, and there may be others.
