Ummmmmmmmmm WOW

But I won't get this one, I'll wait for something more colourful, same with the USN releases

I know HM has to do some silver/grey schemes but hopefully not too many, everyone's crying out for camo models

DDR ones too... and all others from warsaw pact, expecially from Hungary, their camo are nice.
I see well a great theme of collection : warsaw pact

Syrian, iraqi, lybian, and Russian of course.

An end of week really full of joy... my subliminal message ran well

But, please, no special scheme...

Very pleased to see HM take on this mould. I agree that camo schemes are almost always more appealing (With the exception of B17s which just always look better in silver! ).

Looking forward to some interesting Soviet & Arab schemes.

Next up...... IL2 Stormovik (pretty) please

I think this is a great first up scheme. Perfect early MIG23 PVO scheme.

All over it like a "rat up a drain pipe".

Great tooling, the scheme diversity is just enormous. This is the type of tooling that will last years and years,...hopefully collectors will ensure this comes to fruition.

Yes, finally we have ourselves a HM MiG-23 model, all we still need is the MiG-25 & 29 and we have a whole family of MiG's...

I would say Su27, 30, 34, 35. These have not been done to a good accuracy so far. I hope they make the Libyan MIG 23 that ran into the swordsmen very soon.

If they make a Ukrainian one I will buy at least 10 (mostly for gifts). The good news is that they could do it like they do a lot these days - same base camo and a few different top liveries tampoed on.

Hungarian schemes: a long shot, but i know a group who is selling a very very very high quality 1/72 built hungarian helicopter in the 'golden hind' scheme.

This is NOT the model - the model I know of is a HIGHER QUALITY build than this:

however, the subject is the same. If anybody knows of somebody interested in this, they are looking for about 300 euros, ALL OF WHICH WILL BE DONATED TO CHARITY. The model I am talking about is an IPMS national category winner (1/72 helicopters) for 2015.

Excellent, more opportunities to grow my Polish Air Force. Agree that a camo scheme would be great to have. Wonder if it will have movable wings.

OOOOOOWWW YESSSSS this will make me collect military jets now :-0)

I love the MIG-23 especially the Duck nose one ( D version i believe)

Always liked the main gears on this bird such a odd looking configuration and the folding antenna under the tail.
I almost bought one for 15K some time ago , but my wife did not let me put it in our garden :-(

And the paperwork to get it across the border would be a hassle aswell , it was stripped of the engine but the airframe
was still very good

There's definitely a handful I would get. This first release certainly isn't one of them. Cuba, Ukraine, Luftwaffe, Poland are the top of my list

Surprised that HM didn´t go into Su 27 / 30 / 34 / 35 instead, with it´s high magnetism, high demand and high sales potential - and still no satisfactory model on the market so far. Might be they hesitate to compete with AF1?

If I was to get a grey version (don't even think they had bare metal after the new gen of soviet AC came out) it would have to be something like this, bort number in red or blue rather then yellow and a big a$$ missile on the wings. Pity we can't get that level of staining.....

I love the silver/grey. That's what I think of when I think of Russian fighter jets. Low vis in winter conditions. I think it's the right choice for a first Mig 23. And bravo for doing this one, HM!

Agree wholeheartedly. I remember reading about the MIG23 when I was a kid in the early 80s. It caused some consternation because of its "High Lark" radar which gave the beast a look down/shoot down capability,....the first for a Russian Gen 3/4 fighter jet.

Its a classic Warsaw Pact, Cold War scheme of the 70s,....and I am thrilled with it.

Not an expert, but if I recall the ML versions were the Flogger Gs and Ks. Assuming that the tooling can carry all the ML versions, then there will be no problems with scheme diversity.

Libya, Syria, even West/East Germany I think. Should keep us happy. Hopefully someone will pipe up and confirm the G and K are very tooling compatible.

These are all fighter variants I think?

Gee how nice it would be if we could get that weathering on the MiG23 like the early MiG-21s. But oh those who know better, blew it by complaining about washed panel lines.

Yeah it would be awesome, plan to get one grey version and dirty it up myself and I have zero modeling skills

I have the mig21 big fish and yeah, THAT'S how silver/grey models should be released. But probably no chance of that happening again these days

Plus it would take a more skilled labour force to pull it off, doubt they have that sort of skill these days when it's hard for them to simply attach a nose without leaving a massive gap

well, this release should shut the 'HM won't do any more russian planes' crowd up!
i'll wait for one in 80s late cold war/post cold war camo, though.

Thanks for the info on the non-doability of that particular Ukrainian MiG-23. (this image just happened to be one of the first I found from a google image search). Could you please tell us if and which exactly ukraine MiG23 cold be done?

I am happy to see at least three of us already itching for a Ukrainian MiG-23--certainly would like to make the suggestion to HM when the time is right.

Meanwhile, a friend of mine actually worked on Ukrainian MiG-23s and has a series of walk-around type photos which he claims are still secret-ish though i have my doubts that they have any real intelligence value any more. I wonder if there is any point in my trying to get the photos out of him to pass these along (I suspect not and don't want to disabuse him of his delusion that he has something "hot" as opposed to simply unique and interesting).

As far as I can find out, the difference with the MLD is mostly the wings but even first gen versions had some similar features to the MLD's leading edges.

So I can't see why maybe a seperate wing tooling could be done, not just for a Ukrainian 23 but also a Russian and Syrian 23mld

Default Re: Hobby Master MiG-23M - NEW TOOLING - APRIL 2016 RELEASE

To keep it simple :

Early versions (M, MF, MS mainly) had the long dorsal fin. That's what HM is releasing. They have been used both in USSR and WP countries, and exported (MS was a downgraded export version, for example).

Later versions (ML, MLA, MLD) had a short dorsal fin, and a different stance on the ground as they had a much lighter airframe. Furthermore the MLD had a modified wing, excepted for the Bulgarian and Syrian ones.

I don't know if early versions MiG-23s were present in Ukraine at the time of USSR collapse (maybe in the PVO), and if not, I doubt the ukrainians eventually managed to get some while more modern MiG-29s and Su-27s were available.

Yes!

Will maybe take a while to get one onto the purchase list, what with all the new Tomcats coming and the need for a Hawkeye and a Vigi, but will most definitely end up with a couple of these and possibly more, plus examples of any ground attack variants, whether 23 or 27 versions. DDR and USSR top my list, but pretty much all of the Warsaw Pact and half the Middle East interest me...and then there's India, the two seaters, etc

This would have been a good time to be rich

I know it is a long way off but do we know what Armament it will come with? Hawkone's page lists a long list.

I'm sure the Ukrianian Air Force got suck with both early and late versions of the aircraft.

So would I be right in saying that the versions that sit lower to the ground are early types and true ones that sit high, late versions ?

The revision is somewhat ok, the missing unit insignia on the nose is abit of a bummer but the change to red bort numbers is good, I could hardly see examples with yellow bort numbers, the Chinese mostly did that

With a list as long as your arm, they may as well come out with a weapons pack lol

What are you guys thinking you'll buy ? More early or late versions ? I was thinking the later version would be better since it was the ultimate mig-23 produced and the shorter fin looks better
