Default Hobby Master | Curtiss SB2C-4 Helldiver | VB-3, USS Yorktown (56k alert)

Recently added to my collection and now - after finished relocating to the neighbor city - with some pics to enjoy (pictures taken on the living room flight deck, err, table).
Sorry for the limited depth of field in the pics - I did not use a tripod and it was already dark outside.

A few words to the model itself: Great, with some nice details. A lot better than HM's Avenger release. I was looking for one since several years. Really dig the multi-tone camouflage!
The dive brakes are fixed but the slats can be repositioned.

Any one around here remembering Aces of the Pacific or 1942 Pacific Air War? Oh, the nostalgia!

Yep, I have to admit, Hobby Master's Helldiver is a masterwork. Few models equal or even surpass it for pure tour de force.

I understand the Helldiver was a bear to fly, at least at the beginning of its career. Aircrews bellyached about the thing all over the place, but it eventually proved a valued asset against the Japanese.

I agree with Richard from Rotterdam: those dive brakes are first-rate.

Was this Helldiver not the aircaft that sunk the Japanese carriers at the Battle of Midway...??
