If they start selling the new HM tomcats for maybe half the price of the CW F-14's, then I don't might the gaps at all...
I just don't wanna pay so much money for my very first HM tomcat, that's all..

It needs GBU 10/12/16 adding to CW GBU-24's and all late A model Tomcats were bomb capable.
VF-103 sluggers carried out initial trials for the bombcat program and as stated VF-41 were the first A equipped unit first to drop in anger.

I am very sure, that Hobby Master will make a good work with it. I can't await the pre production pics...
I think, the gaps on the fuselage are history then. On the loadout carriers i don'tknow... Perhaps it will be like at the Century Wings models...

from the picture above, it seems like a carbon copy of century Tomcat.....exactly the same place where the gaps are located....and for the asking price of almost 140 euros....i doubt if i will still get one from HM.....just my opinion tho......

So I guess it's official now that HMs Tomcat will cost 10€ more than CWs last Tomcat.

Not sure about European pricing.

Here in North America the Hobby Master version is $25 cheaper.

Flying Mule website $134.99 U.S. For Hobby Master.

The Flying Mule: Search

Century Wings suggested retail price $159.99 U.S. for the last F-14.

CENTURY WINGS Aircraft Diecast Model | 1/72 Scale F-14

This makes Hobby Master just about 20% cheaper.

HM is setting the precedent for their 1/72 prices even higher. I wonder how much the F/A-18E will be? How about the S-3? A bit worrying.

Wow. Seen prices at aviationmegastore.com for this one, they are to charge €139,95. That's 10 euros more expensive than the Tomcatters CW release... I'm shocked!

That seems more expensive than the UK even allowing for current exchange rate? Don't know if the postage would make it worthwhile ordering from here?

You DID see the comment on hobbymastercollector.com about prices, right?

"August 18, 2015

Apparently there are a few retail shops in Europe that have added a price to the
first release of the new Hobby Master 1/72 Air Power Series HA5201 F-14A and I
have had some email because it is causing some concern with collectors. I
queried this with Hobby Master in Hong Kong and this is the reply:

There are 2 facts that you can put on your site for us:

1) Hobby Master didn't announce any price at all, any price information is false.
2) Hobby Master tooling is totally new. We didn't cooperate with any other brands
on this. But it will be very similar to another brand's tooling.

Regards,
William"

Yes I did but aviationmegastore is normally quite accurate when they price their upcoming products. So I doubt it very much that the price will be much cheaper.

@Wildblood: with the current exchange rate it will work out at around 95GBP. For me being in Holland it's only worth it to buy die cast when sellers give good discounts and no ridiculous shipping prices. Especially Jumblies used to charge very high postage rates. Not sure about it nowadays but it has always held me back to order through them.

My problem is I do not have all the schemes I would like to have.

When I go shopping for a specific scheme, the HM model may be my only option. I know I can't find any CW schemes today, unless I am willing to pay $200+.

That makes the HM prices look "ok".

Sometimes you only have to wait for a good deal to come along. I bought a couple of CW Tomcats that I missed and while paying more than their original price I never paid more than current retail for CW Tomcats.

You're fortunate, 777-300ER. Some of those F-14s go for a king's ransom.

On a general note, I gather that Hobby Master's Tomcat will rival Century Wings' version, which is fine with me. I love the F-14 and expect we'll see many desirable color schemes down the road. Prices, however, are a major concern. To cope, I've taken a Zen approach and purchase only what I can afford and like and let the rest slide (which is a whole lot).

The beauty of this hobby is, nobody forces us to buy anything we don't want. If a model's too expensive, don't buy it. If its livery or load-out doesn't appeal, pass it by. It matters little what others think.

Just picked up minutes ago in Hong Kong.

Lousy photo was taken using an iPad under lousy lighting - so no comments on colour allowed.

BTW, GPS bump is present!

Full review to come.

HM's quality control seems off on this one. Same issue you see on The final prototype page, graphics on the nose is skewed to one side. This IS NOT what you want to see on a first release.

It looks like the "twist" is an artifact of the focus in the macro setting, or that the plane is slightly raised up from the styrofoam and tissue on the right side of the picture. Compare the focus at the left vs. right wing tips.

At least I hope that's the case.

Hard to tell from one pic. Particularly when the lighting isn't great.

They solved that with the foam and not a clam shell

Perhaps they know the foam reacts with the diecast metal or paint

That is true, many of the details we put up here are "under the microscope" in terms of enlarging and pointing out. And many of those issues would be overlooked by 90% or more of the purchasing base I would think.

"Seriously. I wouldn't notice most of these "issues" if they weren't posted with close ups."
That is true, many of the details we put up here are "under the microscope" in terms of enlarging and pointing out. And many of those issues would be overlooked by 90% or more of the purchasing base I would think.
I come here to hear everyone's views. I value your insight Jeff, I honestly just don't look as hard up close. The HM F-15 on shelf is starting to bother me. It just seems to get "bluer" everyday. I won't get another C/D until the color issue is worked out. I am looking forward to the Tomcat though. I really want this to be good so CW is forced to up its game a little. Maybe even release something that's not an F-14 or SR. I just can't get into the SR's beyond one.

To be fair, there's some paint missing at the tip of that stripe. I think if it wasn't chipped, that vertical line wouldn't appear so off.

F-15 looking bluer everyday made me laugh, I guess its one heck of a smurfi model. By the way, the nose cone probe is painted incorrectly here with the F-14. The base of the probe should have been grey not metallic.

Yeah I'd like the trainer but my wife needs a new car and they are comparable in price haha. I think a new 2 seater would have a lot of us shifting gears to buy it.

It just bothers me and for the price I paid it shouldn't. And I'm a little pissed because it is such a historic Eagle. I display it with othe Eagkes and I wouldn't trade either of my WW 65th Aggressors for another one.

Holy crap. I thought we were bad on the airliner side.
