Thanks I appreciate it, Skinner. I've been trying to find some Witty stands to modify because I'd like to display the F-4s in flight with the center-line fuel tank installed.

I still would like to have NE101 to complete the Midway set. I'll get to it eventually. I'm surprised you were able to pick out those A-6s in that one picture. I forgot to take a closer head on shot of that section. Well I have 6 of those (2 of the Moonlighters).

I love the A-10s as well. I think I will be done with those after I find a decent priced HA1315 from Hobby Master.

Correction. The HM F-4 can be displayed on the Witty F-14 and F-15 stands with slight modification. (So easy, even I could do it.)

Great discussion here on another forum: Witty Stands Compatibility thread!!! in WITTY WINGS Forum

Yeah I've been up and down that thread a few times. I just have to locate some donor Witty stands for the conversion. Thanks for the heads up though.

Insert metal piece in rear of plaque and bend to whatever height you would like the aircraft to sit at. This next part was tricky, but with the remaining metal piece of the hanger, I had to fashion two "U" shaped bends on the ends to secure with the wood screws and washers. Secure one side first, then do a loop over the first metal piece that is protruding from the rear before securing the remaining wood screw and washer. Spray paint and banking jets in flight are optional. I'll try to post a better view of the stand later on.
Pics of the stands as promised.

The planes hold up pretty well with the metal from the hanger inserted and also the base makes it very stable. I don't use them as much now that I have the cabinets, so I have like 8 of them just sitting around. Maybe I'll throw the FOV ones on there if ever I need to free up some space.

Not me, I'm saving my $$ for higher priorities. Probably will limit myself to grabbing a 1/144 version someday, or just trying my hand at making my own..

Couldn't have been better IMO, it just doesn't get more classic than VF-84 Tomcats, notwithstanding everybody's wish that CW would hurry up with a more diverse range of them!

Anyway, no no, thank you for the pics!

Thanks. Yeah I was reckless with the models before I ran across my display cabinets, but won't sweat it if one fell. I wouldn't be happy, but I'd get over it. Plus I like seeing them set up occasionally in a different pose than that standard banking one accomplished with the CW clear stand. I'm really pleased with all my CW Tomcats, but I would love it if they threw in a spare AOA probe for the nose and optional packet of varied armament (spare LANTIRN pods especially). With all the models I have, I'm in no shortage of extras but it would be nice option to have.

BTW, the only one I'm now missing is the VX-4 Vandy 1 "Black Bunny" jet to complete the set. Just saw one go for over $900+ when including shipping on eBay (definitely a bit too rich for me ), so unsure when/if I'll acquire this last one at that going rate (unless someone here would be as kind enough to help a fellow collector out).

I'll put some picks up of the latest few I got when I get some free time.

You've done well mate, I think of the opportunities I had to go back and order a few spare 'Black Bunnies' from the Top Gun store in Japan back in the day... just purchased 2, one for myself & one for a mate.

Look forward to seeing piccies of your new arrivals - sounds like you've been busy

Mission complete. I was able to track down the last 4 to complete the set.

Freelancers, the two earlier launch configs (JR AJ202 & Black Knights) and Vandy 1 (thanks to TheMadMajor).

I'll update the thread when I get some time to take a few pictures.

Congrats Super..., but I see you've fallen into the "must have them all" trap. Not saying it's a bad thing, but, as some might agree, I sense you have entered the "Danger Zone"

Very nice "TC" collection BTW

No doubt Spooky. Big fan of the Tomcat and they look so sweet so I had to get em'. But also being on this message board ain't doing me no favors because something new is posted every week it seems. As it stands I'm missing one A-7, a couple A-6, maybe the French F-8 (not looking for the flap down versions) and I think I have enough Blackbirds. I think I'll be satisfied when I can bring in my two cabinets out the garage and set them up inside because as it sits right now, I have models set up everywhere. haha.

, thought you might have a "collection room" and not just cabinets

Being a DAC forum member and contributing, as best I can, has been a bonus for helping me determine which models I will add to my small, but growing, collection of HM Canadian releases, Spooks, Starfighters, and my first F-16 HA3817 (Israeli) do to arrive soon.

What I admire about your TC collection is how orderly you keep it... Must be a thrill every time you see those "cats" all lined up on display. There's many collectors out there who basically open a closet door and observe their collection, "still in boxes", and stacked to the ceiling. Happy to see you have yours proudly displayed. Looking forward to your photos

Cheers,

I have quite a few HM offerings. I have quite a few of their A-10s, F-4s, F-15s & F-16s and select handfuls of their F-18s, F-22s, F-111s & Harriers to name a few. I'm to the point where I'm satisfied with the ones I have and can wait to grab select ones in the future.

I haven't been collecting that long to say whether or not HM opting to make the F-14 over other aircraft that collectors may want is a good or bad thing, but from what I've read it seems as if some would have preferred HM create a new aircraft tooling as opposed to one that some believe has already been well done. But on the other hand, some thought the addition of another manufacturer competing with CW as it pertains to the F-14 would have been great for collectors price wise, but seems to be a wash as HM initial prices for their F-14 is in the same ballpark somewhat.

I'm pretty sure the HM F-14 offering will be top notch because with all the other HM diecast aircraft I own, I am happy with them. If they put the same effort into this diecast as what I have seen, I think it'd be great just for collectors to have another avenue for an F-14 in a scheme that they may have missed out on previously or one totally different that CW hasn't done.

With all that said, obviously I've only laid eyes on the CW offering (granted a few releases have goofy pallet and/or landing gear fittings), they are pretty good. If HM can meet or exceed that, hey, I think it is a win/win for us collectors (especially the late comers to the party) where they can get a decent bird on the ground floor (granted, not at the $85 price point).

Cheers,
I don't think my wife would go for a "collection room", but I'm definitely angling for one at this rate if I keep it up. Every time I pass the cabinet no matter what I'm doing, I have to take a moment to stare and always think of rearranging it some different kind of way. haha. I don't think I can manage only viewing them in their boxes so I'm grateful that I do have a little bit of room to have them out in the open. What I do find funny is that no matter how tidy I try to keep them in the cabinet, dust seems to sneak in there some how. That's the only bummer part about it.

ahh the PAIN of displaying a large collection, DUST. ALWAYS manages to creep in there somehow! fantastic collection there! only been collecting military models 3 months. after collecting mostly commercial aircraft for years. collecting mostly F-14s + F-4s. JOLLY ROGER + BLACK BUNNY/BLACK models. my two favourites. but have already gone outside that and picked up 4 other different phantoms out of 7 7

I for one are glad HM are doing f-14s. might be able to afford those as CW older JR releases are way overpriced!

Well prior to me even being aware of and picking up the diecast aircraft hobby, I was a bit busy spending on other things. I've just diverted my interests a bit for the time being. Yes, the older diecast aircraft that have long sold out are hard to come by and basically if you want something, you have to be willing to pay what a seller is asking or you're comfortable with it. Only downside for coming in late to the game (availability and aftermarket prices).

You've had quite a few arrivals this month according to your signature as well. I saw your 3 HM JR F-4s in your thread the other day. They definitely are nice.

Found 2 of those curio cabinets at a yard sale for $150 each. They are rather wide, but about 13 or 14 inches deep. Rather they were the sliding front type cabinets for easy access up front, but I have to get at the models via the side. So that is the only downside to those, but beggars can't be choosey.

have had that many as I am selling off most of my 40+ 1/200 scale BOAC models. keeping just my corgi 1/144 models, and my big travel agent models. up to 16 military models already. check out 12 of them on flickr, and some of my other models. still need to take pictures of phantoms SHOWTIME, CHERRY POINT, ARK ROYAL and black aces.

check out my new arrival 1/100 klm 747-400!! 28 inches long!

Cool collection Robert. That is a huge model at 28 inches. I thought the CW Blackbird was big. I wouldn't even know where I would begin to setup models that large. Those are some nice airliner models on your flickr account and I like how you got that set up. Maybe I'll eventually try something like that.

Aw man, hate to hear that. You will soon be out of runway and air space on your desk after a few more arrivals. Well hopefully you can get your loft all set up shortly so you can display your planes the way you want. I know I'd hate to leave them in boxes because as I know as soon as I get a model, it's cracked open and promptly set up somewhere. haha.

well for years I used to keep my models at my own workplace. but now I work for another company. so had to bring them home. I won't put them in cabinets as I have a handicapped son. he can fly off the handle and any time. and the thought of him crashing into the cabinets/models etc even accidentally, is too much of a risk. so a mancave in the loft is the only option!! this is an old pic of my collection. had around 140 models!!

No doubt safety first. So you say had around 140 models? Will it be increasing or decreasing based on you deciding to sell off a few? Meaning although you are selling some, you seem to be balancing em back out with with new additions in the 1:72 scale military side of the house it seems.

Well as far as display space goes, in a perfect world I'd have a finished basement and that would solve that issue. Plenty space down there to set em up, but something about the access of having them displayed in livable space is something I've grown accustomed to. haha

Finally got around to taking some pictures of the models that I was missing. I made a photo light box today to try and take some decent pictures.

*Note* Thanks for the tip tomcatters. Taking pics is not my forte, but I was able to get better results with better lighting. I'll put the Vandy 1 pictures back up when I get some time.

and it goes to show that even in a lightbox, if the white balance is not faithful to the lighting conditions, you'll see the same grey represented by grey and brownish-grey. just saying...

From what I know Bounty Hunters this F-14 goes for about USD $300 these days. IMHO it's better to have the "one" a/c you really love than trying to get as many as you can. Very easy to get drawn into the idea of "needing them all". If I were you I'd make getting your CW F-14 "Bounty Hunters" a priority and not even think of any other a/c for now. Will let you know if I find one. Hope this helps...
