Default Hachette's Non-Japanese Models: A P-47Arrives

For about six years the Hachette Collections Japan series has been giving guys like me diecast renditions of virtually every plane the Japanese used during WW2 in scales ranging from 1:87th to 1:120th, mainly. Recently, they began adding planes from other countries---the U.S. Britain and Germany, so far, with the implication that they may go deeper---like Italy and Russia I hope. The first of these new models, a 1:87th scale BF-109G-6 was a total disaster, with so many errors that I wrote it off as a complete bin job. However, they have done much better with the Spitfire MK IX, P-51D and P-47, which followed and I'm looking forward to the P-38, F4U, F4F, Stuka and FW-190A that are scheduled for this summer.

Here's a picture of the 1:87th scale P-47, which I've stained up a tad:

And the P-51D, also in 1:87th:

One may well ask why I bother with this smaller scale when there are 1:72nd scale versions of the same planes. The answer is that I seek out unusual subjects and often find them in the smaller scales---mainly of Soviet, Italian and Japanese warbirds like the I-15, Lagg-3, Yak-1, Fiat G.50, RE-2000, MC-200, Claude, Nate, Tojo, etc. Models of American, British and German planes of similar quality in the same scale enable me to complete this part of my collection.
