Regarding the canopy tint, earlier I sent an email to William inquiring if Hobby Master had plans for applying a gold tint (the same used on their Raptor's).

I will post more when I receive his reply.

For VAQ 209 I would go with this one:

I would also love the Centennial livery on each

I'm not a fan of the Patriots one either. I just figure there will be fans. Truth be told, the only reason I can think of for me to buy a Prowler would be to collect the Centennial Navy jets. I wish there was a better Growler model though...

Yeah, I think a complete Centennial livery collection would be a nice display.

Pretty as they are, I'm not a fan of special liveries as they tend to be 'one-offs". I prefer peacetime standard liveries with the unit colors...the combat colors are too washed out even if they are authentic.

The topaz canopies aren't topaz.

The later EA-6Bs had a canopy with a gold coating.

Peacetime has not existed for the United States since the attack on Pearl Harbour. That's not even an exaggeration. As long as there have been jets in their fleet, they have been at war.

As for the special liveries, some love them, some don't. It really doesn't matter to me because I likely won't buy one either way since Canada never flew Prowlers and my collection is exclusively Canadian. I would consider the Centennial Navy collection though. I have zero connection to modern American warfare, but I'm a history buff and I love WWII history. That's why the Centennial collection appeals to me. That and the fact I've spent a fair bit of time on Whidbey Island which is where most of the Prowlers were based - including the Centennial jet.

A little exaggeration. Don't swallow all the liberal Kool-aid out there. But yeah, we been beatin' the war drums a lot.

I don't think any were blue - rather a drawing's attempt to show clear glass.

Later EA-6Bs - The thin Gold coating shields the cockpit and crew from radiation. The gold canopy prevents energy radiated at specific frequencies from passing through. Gold is a very dense material with high conductivity, so even an extremely thin layer is effective. The gold coating creates a "Faraday cage" effect.

On an EA-6B this was very useful since this aircraft could carry up to 5 jamming pods which emitted an enormous amount of energy in the form of radiation.

That's actually a fascinating bit of info. I just thought it was about cockpit cooling, but the astronaut's faceplates were gold, and that makes a lot of sense about the radiation bit. Thanks for the facts, Dan.

I often thought about the long term health of EA6B crews with all that electronic energy being radiated.

I am sure they were well protected, but I do wonder if the US Navy has collected any stats on the retired Prowler crews??

As promised, here is William´s reply to my email about next HM EA-6B livery:

Dear Ladia,
Thank you very much for your suggestions indeed.
The more classic color will be very welcomed by collectors I guess.
Also, the Playboy marking is always popular. We are glad to hear that collectors on the fourm like the development of the EA-6B.
We will probably make the second release in the classic scheme as you suggested.
About the intake, I will check with the engineers.
Thank you. William

All I can say is that William is really The Perfect Man For The Job.
Really looking forward to next Prowler edition and hoping that HM engineers will be able to make realistic intakes!

If they did, I'm sure the VA (Veteran's Affairs bureau) lost all the records.

Wow. Away for a short Easter break and now this. My gut feeling is that HM is not so much taking on CW with these, but are establishing themselves as the number 1 brand with AF1s hot breath in their neck.

But it would have been the logical choice for CW to branch out with these jets. Although they don't seem keen on expanding their portfolio, these would have made good sellers for them, especially the Prowler.

I too like dealing with William, unlike a lot of people he listens to his customers. One of the things I would like to see in any of the Navy aircraft they produce is the option to have the wings folded. It is a unique part of naval aviation and there are very few models out there that have this feature. One reason I have the HM 1/48 corsair as my only 1/48 scale model. The other thing I would wish to see would be a comprehensive armament package either separate as per the A10's or in the box as per the CW. After all an individual mixture of upto 5 pod/tanks and 4 HARMs would be nice to have for the EA6B and as for the
Hoover, I couldn't begin to list the full load available, but AAR pod to Harpoon to MK82 to Mk 46's and all sorts of other combinations. Coupled with an ES7A are enough to get my mouth to water. If you read this William, keep up the good work.

From what I have read, many people were disappointed by the Corsair purely due to the wing folding option and the results of that feature.

And personally, I don't want anything that will take from the overall look of the model.

If they can get the colours right, could be a possibility.

Otherwise, no thanks.

Nicely and cleanly foldable wings would be surely nice and attractive option, starting from Navy Phantoms over Corsairs II up to Prowlers
etc etc. My understanding is, however, that with current technology (more or less piano hinges), the results are always much worse than solid wings. Really terrible are foldable wings on AF1 Su-33 Flanker and X-47B for example. I´d say this is a technology problem. Maybe - just an idea - wingstips not foldable but replaceable (as the canopies, landing gears are). Question is, if this solution would still be attractive...

Actually, my anecdote about the Corsair refers to "replaceable wings". The HM Corsair's had this option but many were disappointed by it.

Replicating this feature in 1/72 scale is also a challenge.

Another alternative was the piano hinges on some AF1 products...

Sometimes, the simplest is the best...

As much as I'd like the idea of folded wings. I would prefer not to compromise the model with massive joint lines, or even worse a large gap. I am sure Hobby Master is smart enough that they won't even entertain the idea of hinges.

I would be interesting to have a folded wing version where the model has permanently folded wings. This would especially be interesting on the S-3 and E-2.

Basically, a Century Wings style "kneeling/slats deployed" version.

I'm not sure that it would be possible due to the very acute angle of the folding wings (on the Viking at least). It is likely the outer wing section would need to be plastic if it is even possible.

And, judging from the forums and Century Wings' releases, they aren't as popular as the standard either.
