I figured it was going to be something special but this just floored me - kudo's to the designer. Yes, I will take one when HM announces it.

Schedule - http://www.rcaf-arc.forces.gc.ca/en/.../schedule.page

For those around YOW, it will be at Potter's Hangar with the Snowbirds on the 30th of June. https://www.vintagewingsmembers.ca/e...ntIdEnc=25E5C5

Of the CF-18 demo team liveries, this one has by far the most international appeal.

I kinda am a bit non-plussed too.

I am gonna sound like a green/brown ideologue....but I would have preferred green/brown....not brown/brown.

At anyrate, it is speccy and I am pleased that many lads love it.

Likely the first photo appears to be brown/brown due to the hangar lighting.

Outdoors it definitely is green/brown..

In any event there will have to be many more photos before HM can attempt a replica.

Some more photos have begun to appear on the internet.

The CF-18 has the Squadron Serial letters YO-H which was on the side of the fuselage of a Hurricane I of No.1 RCAF Squadron flown by Flight Lieutenant Gordon McGregor RCAF, DFC in which he scored the Squadron's first kill during the Battle of Britain. McGregor went on to finish the War as an Ace with the rank of Group Captain (Colonel for our American Cousins).

Gordon McGregor went on after the war to be President of Trans Canada Airlines (renamed Air Canada in 1965) for twenty years from 1948-1969.

Of note are the fake .303 Machine guns painted on the CF-18s wings leading edge.

Dan

Why did they choose to cut off the roundal and rego ? Otherwise I would get this one, green/brown never goes out of style

I rather like it now that I have seen some of the other pictures of it. I think it beautifully represents the Battle and the Canadian part of it.

I suspect because it's an active military jet and that's not the active RCAF roundel.

Not everything is on the Internet I'm afraid.

I have a fairly extensive collection of Canadian Aviation books which are always a great source.

Yes, Larry Milberry's book RCAF at War 1939-45 references McGregor's first Victory for the Squadron (Do.215) .

The Hurricane he flew that day - P3863 (YO-H) is referenced in Kostenuk's and Griffin's book RCAF Squadrons and Aircraft.

Hazer's flightline seems to have the best photos so far.

Yep,...that does look very very speccy indeed.

The brown reminds of the old HM Brown from the past (Dear God, I hope so). No wonder the language was colourful in other places.

I would not buy it personally, but I have to say I really love it. What a creative scheme to commemorate history. This would be a model you hope would be done perfectly because it deserves it.

I've been "wearing down" William on this one.

Looks like it may happen.

Will still need photos taken from below however.

Canuck models have got the exclusive licence to produce decals for the RCAF demo jets from 2010 to 2015
So would be interested to see how licensing would be achieved by HM if this would be made?
Air Commander must have got licensing for the JG-71 50 jahre special livery but Revell didnt as their kit decals were altered so not too get legal action from the artist responsible.

Great thing about tampo printing is that decals are not part of the process. So no exclusivity there.

A license fee to the artist would likely be necessary though.

Yes, as I said in my post - a license fee would likely be necessary.

However, a decal company claiming exclusive rights would only affect other decal manufacturers - not tampo printed diecast models.

I might have missed something but I didn't see anywhere that it was an exclusive license either. I agree with Dan's comments on Tampo.

I inquired about the underside of the aircraft and was told by the CF-18 Demo Team:

"Apart from the coloured roundel and the crew's names on the nose landing gear door, the underneath of the a/c is painted with standard colour and markings."
