Default What models would you like to see done

I have done a bunch of surveys in the 1/200 world and posted the results for people to see as well as getting them to some the decision makers or contacts at the manufacturers. The HM wish list is going wild so I have posted the following survey here for everybody in the Military area to have a click at. I will give interim updates on the airframes mentioned and if need be, develop a specific one for one airframe - ie what Caribou Liveries would you like to see.

The survey tool is free and may be a bit unwieldy to use so if it is awkward, I apologize but I wont pay for the premium flavour.

I will try, with Brad's valuable assistance, to post some form of the results every 10 to 15 surveys received. Each survey gives you 10 choices but you only get one kick at the survey - one you hit done at the end - you are.

The survey is at - https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HTHS3YT

Bill

Yes. this should be a no holds bared list. Once we get a bunch of replies, some patterns may show up that arent expected. I for example had forgotten about the caribou and it will be one of my 10.

OK done. Gawd, 10 is not a lot after all.

Had to leave out some smashing releases (including 208 SQN Halifax "Vicky" .......sorry to my fellow Antipodeans ). Oddly I only picked one new tooling and most of my choices were Corgi toolings.

Although, my B17 and B25 choices could have AF1 as me saviour.

10 times 100 [which is the max number of responses] still makes a max of 1000 different ones. not bad for an initial catch.

Bugger....I forgot the Hudson and early MK A20s.

As I say,....10 is not enough.

Like the Grumman Tracker idea.

The point of this first survey is to get a 'talking list of no more than 200', then we can sort out the popular ones and start lobbying.

In the 1:72nd scale category I have two lists----one for the remotely possible based on manufacturer profitability; the other for what I'd really like and profitability be damned. Here goes for the remotely possible:

1) Fiat CR.42
2) P-36
3) ME-410
4) Dornier 217
5) Hudson
6) F-80
7) IL-2M
8) Mig-23
9) Tojo
10) Betty

And the second list, which I can't see Corgi, HM or, even AF1 attempting:

1) SM-79
2) Fokker D.XXI
3) PZL-11C
4) SAAB 29
5) PE-2
6) Yak-9
7) IL-28
8) Kingfisher
9) Sally
10)Mig-19

Some good ones there Edward. Particularly the SM 79 and Betty.

MIG19 over the MIG17???

The SM79 is my WW2 dream tooling. Extremely unlikely but...........

Yeah 10 was not enough.

But still, the point is there is plenty yet to do. All it takes is a bit of efficiency and manufacturing progress in method, accurate and robust distribution and perhaps more of the above are viable.

Not likely, as it has already been done by Corgi in 1/72 Scale.

Thanks, didn't realise it had been done..I've got the Airfix kit so I'll settle with my own based on the aircraft at Duxford.

I had these five planes on my list too! Same squadron for the Vampire. In hindsight, I'd prefer a Golden Centennaires Tutor over a Snowbirds one, but I was thinking in terms of sales. Should have gone with my heart on that one.

I also had a Grumman Tracker and post-war silver RCAF B-25, P-51, Canso and Dakota.

I have a pretty long wishlist, but here are a few that i think a bit odd dont make it onto many

Bt13 -- ok, i understand its not everybodys cup of tea, but its am imcreidbly important aircraft (albeit a trainer) amd produced in huge numbers

1/72 p36 hawk -- with many far less interesting types having been made, i have always been puzzled why this one hasnt been.

1/72 vindicator - please resurrect skymax amd make all of these kthx

1/72 f7f this one to me is really off that iirc ive not seen requested ever.

Id love for falcon models to come back with a vengeamce amd give a f3h demon a try.

Abd ive been dreamin about a skyknight forever, though realistically it probably aint going to happen.

More realistic maybe is a corgi hudson. Right up their alley and theyd do a great job. A p36/mohawk/hawk 75 could also be a winner for them.

And a 1/32 or 1/48 series of ga aircraft, please. I think thats the remaining untapped market in diecast. Enough people have flown in cessnas, pipers, and the like i think theres a market to be exploited. Gemenis 172 was noce but too small.

Maybe, when Western Air forces consist of the F35 and nothing else, the manufactures will start delving into the back catalogue they have so far ignored?!

.........or maybe we'll just get a lot of F35 releases lol

Well, to be fair, we're still waiting for a good f35. Theres probably still an economic cas for another manufacturer, maybe cw, to make a decent one on the theory that the mould will be able to be exploited for a long time. But the argument against it is that there seem to be relatively few enthusiasts with much love for the thing..

Somebody mentioned grumman tracker.. Id like to second that one, even if its from an af1.

But really honestly i wouldnt mind another batch of magazine models. I mean, while falcon may come back and with some luck do a few good subjects (hopefully a bit more interesting than the f5a.. I mean, given that f5e and t38 are already available), but with skymax gone and if falcon ends up not coming back.. Well.. A lot of the more obscure catalog has to rest on the magazine guys. And in fairness, at time they have produced output that puts others to shame and or stands up on its own like the viggen and drakken that are better than av72's and on balance pretty decent super mystere, super etendard, and a few others... Plus a passable skyray

The previous 1/72 survey I did bit off a bit much once I saw the results coming in when compared to the 1/200 survey.s In order to get to where we need to go, I am going to abort but keep the previous ones results and do the following. First is the survey below just to capture a list of airframes you would like to see be it never produced or in a livery you want which hasnt been produced [but dont add the livery in survey "1", just the airframe]. The result of survey 1 will build into a list of no more than 200 airframes which all can say a yes I would buy if it was out or not. Survey 3+ will be for each of the in demand items for survey 2 and will be in the format of the first, now on hold what do you want survey of operator livery and suggested manufacturer. I will post a running list of already entered ones as time progresses.

I also found my list to be well above 10 so you now have up to 20 entries AND you can do it more than once if you have more to add. This isnt a tally count so 40 entries in this round just saying CF-100 will not make the CF-100 rank higher. Update edit - over 150 line items so far - will edit them down to de duplicate and post the list on Monday for info. Most I know but at least 10 are going to require me to hit google to find out what they are. Input includes all the V bombers, all of the "B"'s from 45 to 58 you likely know of and B-51 for those who dont, Concorde, SR-71A with D-21 Drone Hercules, Tu-95, Tracker...

Survey is at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LCJNNCR

Anything WWII that is NOT a

P-51, P-47, F6F, F4U, Spitfire, ME-109, ME-262 or FW-190.

There are enough of these around to satisfy any collector done by a variety of companies.

Anything else is fair game but I'd give special attention to Japanese and Russian which are both grossly under represented...

Thanks for doing thie, YOW. Quite interesting to see the final results and I agree with your approach - get a list together first and then vote - it's hard to even remember the options available, let alone nail your top 10 in one sitting.

Some really cool planes in there that I hadn't even considered. A Grumman Goose? Hell yeah! I'd love a Beech 18. I'd love a Buffalo. I'd love a Caribou. And the SR-71 always looked badass with a D-21 up top. Glad to see the CF-100, the Tracker, the Banshee, the P-80, the EA6, the Seafire...and lots of cool German, Japanese and Russian WWII stuff. Great list!

Something that could be done with minor tooling to the Vampire is the Venom, both single and Twin seaters.

One issue i am bumping up against already is the survey tool only gives me a max of 200 items I can use. I likely will use my discretion if I have to cut some items. Examples of cuts are modern commercial stuff like Lears and gulfstreams. I 2will say that doing this has surprised me about the eclectic nature of what people have suggested. I mirror Zed's comment, lots of cool stuff I never had considered and would buy. I got 5 more entries since I last checked and I will be folding those in today.

The survey looking for input is now close and the votable one should be up shortly. I did have to cut a number of items suggested due to the free survey constraints. I kept in some interesting and essoterics while deleting dome other like the Twin Otter and Dash 7, Islander, any busjet or turbine which is mainly commercial (King Air went but it was tough), V12 helicopter - way too big, nobody would do it given a perceived low demand, went.

Here is the link to the votable survey. 200 aircraft to salivate over. I had to google a fair number of them just to see what they were - so enjoy.

Thanks for all your hard work!

There are a couple of minor issues.

There are two entries for C-130s (Lockheed Hercules/Lockheed C-130 Hercules)

The Northrop F-5 is too vague. It should be the F-5A as the F-5E has already been done by Hobby Master in 1/72.

The Beechcraft T-6 Texen II and the Pilatus PC-9 are the same aircraft (essentially) and could be combined as one entry.

Dan -Thanks for the catch on the duplicate hercs and the trainers. Because of the number of entries, I made the executive decision to go as high as possible for the airframe definition. When F-5 breaks out into a lead pack or Tracker, or the U-2, or the Herc... the airframe sub types with different external mold line dimmensions will be resurveyed for version and livery. There were responses looking for another 5E meaning some dissatisfaction with HM's.

Either that or some collectors are fairly new to the Hobby and are unaware that some Toolings are already available.

The HM F-5E has been generally commented on as practically flawless, so I would be surprised if people are expressing dissatisfaction with it. Also if a tooling has already been done - other manufacturers are usually unlikely to duplicate it.

Given the scope od aircraft, debating one line item in or out at this juncture serves no point. By design the details will fall out if there is a lot of demand or be irrelevant if there is not. NONE of the other airframes are version specific.

Dragon Wings had a die-cast 1/400 P-8A Poseidon in development a year or two back...but its never been released. Would really like to see it.

I ran a survey for 1/200 and 8 out of 100 said the wanted it[P-8] in that scale. Top selection was 28 out of 100 as a comparison.
