Default Code 3 CF-18 Hornet

Hi There

Just had this done. I used a Franklin Mint Royal Maces with bad paint.
I have not received the plane back as of yet. I still have to ok the paint job.

It looks good to me, any thoughts from fellow collectors.

Please take this as a very picky comment, because I like the overall effect. The weathering is not extending to the tyres, hook U/C etc they still look pristine. But most important, get rid of the generic AIM9's and put proper AIM9L's on the kit. A lovey code 3 like that deserves good accurate missiles, I'd even get a couple of AIM7's to go on the Fuselage stations. Having said that a lovely Code 3

Hey that looks great. It's wonderful what a little weathering can do.

For those not familiar, Dragon Warbirds made one "weathered" Hornet (DM-50056 Chippy Ho - they also made a non-weathered Chippy Ho)

While the weathered effect there isn't perfect, it's pretty darn good. Moreover, after being 'rare and expensive' for a long time, it has come down in price on ebay. If you can find one, you might want to consider it. While the HM mould has some advantages, I've come to the conclusion that all of the major F18C moulds (HM, Witty, DM) have their pluses, and so my collection has a few of each.

First, let me say I hate you.

Just kidding of course. I have been investigating the exact same thing. Taking a FM F-18 and commissioning a code 3 with this EACT livery.

You have definitely shown me that it would be OUTSTANDING.

I was investigating which F-18 would best reflect the CF-18. Was focusing on the Navy birds due to the similarity.

Was your choice of the Royal Maces bird due to a technical comparison or availability and cost?

Thanks.

Time for Corgi to do a RCAF Halifax!

Out of a total of 37,000 operational missions flown in Halifax aircraft in the Second World War - 29,000 were flown by Canadian crews.

Hi, the missiles came with the donor plane. I do not think I will use any of the missiles on this model. I might have the weathering removed (but it does look good)as I wanted it to be a Airshow plane.
Thanks for the picky comments, that is what I was looking for.

I used the Royal Maces plane because it had bad paint. It just seemed to be a good plane to use. I have 3 or 4 more planes with bad paint that I will be getting done into CF-18 Hornets. The next donor plane will be a FM Red Devils B11B199. This one will be turned into a Cf-18 409 Sq Nightmare 01

It's surprising that HM has overlooked this livery so far. It's one of the best that the CF-18 has ever worn. Would have been a great D-Day tie-in last year.

I got my plane back today. It looks great. I was going to send the contact info of the place where I had the work done to a forum member and I found this on ebay.
It is the company that did my plane. Those are the photos of my plane .I guess he liked what he had done.
A FM plane with bad paint and a decal set from Leading Edge Models they took that and turned it into a work of art.
I do have a complete plastic kit from Hasegawa with decals, if anyone wants to buy it.
