Still waiting on Pete's as well, should be here in three days.
Getting another signature 1:48 WWII P-51 along with it, so mid week should be a good week.

, three of them!

Reminds me of my first diecast model, a CW Tomcat way back in the fall of 2007.

It was my favorite as a kid and my dream to fly, and, knowing I needed to make sure I'd be covered for life, I bought two just so I'd have a backup in case something happened to the first. They were about $60 USD back then, so eminently affordable by today's standards...I still keep the second one boxed up in a secured, undisclosed location in a separate building on a separate property...just in case

(Alas, not an underground bunker...)

Anyway, congrats, mine won't be here 'til next Weds...

A local small-time retailer now has two of these models.

I'm still not a fan of it, especially when you consider its 'new' price ($30 more than the previous).

oh my. there's only a $2 and 99¢ difference in the map and srp between the tomcatter and diamondbacks respectively. the retailer must be taking advantage of the interest that is being generated by this model

Nope, it's not that one, it's an early Jolly Rogers, AJ210 from 1978...Still my favorite by far, though I love so many of them

Shortly after that I did add a Black Knights though, but the deadly-purposeful looking one from OEF/OIF rather than the kneeler...Driscoll/Rucoin, not the Flatley one...as well as a Sundowners!!!

Actually I got to meet Yoshi and a Mule rep (think his name was Martin?) at a public convention in Chicago and see the SR-71 prototype before it was released, and buy these two later jets directly from the Mule and Yoshi in person. It was an awesome day, lemme tell ya!!

Okay though, enough gloating from yours truly

The Australian CW distributor, which also happens to be another retailer, has increased the price and everyone is now literally 'paying the price'.

For me, it was the minor issues that all added up and equated to a model that I couldn't see myself buying.

Also, a little ironic considering your username.

well... in the interest of my fellow brother collectors especially those down under, just doing my bit in the hope that the greedy retailers will lower their prices. doesn't seem to be working though. and my username is but a derivative.anyway

seeing the price soar up...... however beautiful the mold from cw is.....i had enough.... using the same old mold and asking a ridiculous price...im sure, the newcomers will buy it whatever happens.....just to keep up with the trend of collecting the so called high end CW..... i prefer spending the asking price for 2 new models and enjoy as much..... just my opinion tho

actually since dec 2012 (wolfpack) to april 2015 (tomcatter), the srp has only increased by $3.99. anyway... here's what i've been talking about - the seam gap under the rio and the wolverine slashes (all photos taken from century wings collector's pics):

Actually, CW updated the mold after VF-154 with Pukin Dogs starting a new mold. There were slight improvements, especially along the wing roots. The slant "wolverine claw marks" on the front fuselage under the RIO look to be from the new casting there after. It looks like Yoshi did do some rework over most of the model at that time while in between new production facilities.

Mar Ji. IMHO you get what you pay for in this hobby. Yeah the prices are going up but so is the price of everything else. MY CW birds are the best 1/72's in my collection bar none. The only other models I would place in this category are my 1/35 GMP's which I currently own four of ( 3 P-51's, 1 P-40 ).

after almost a decade of collecting diecast.......deciding which is the best diecast manufacturer all depends on the buyer and not anyone on the forum.....when it comes to accuracy, i can only smile seeing some guys discussing endlessly who is the best.... no single diecast model will be as accurate as the real aircraft....some panel lines are ridiculous to see when compared to real aircraft......its all in the mind of the buyer or the collector which suits his taste..... so its not actually what you pay.....but is it sensible to buy a certain model......im not being blind to a so called high end manufacturer but get whatever model suits my taste......

Just a quick jump in here - I have to agree - if you like the model that is what matters - I have CW, HM, Dragon, WW, Falcon etc and I like them all. Some manufacturers just do not make certain model types or colour schemes etc.

Absolutely, always purchase what you like first and foremost.

The difference between quality on different models does go past intrinsic personal value. Quality and detail are selling points that show their value on the secondary markets such as eBay. When you compare the secondary prices of a Dragon, Witty or CW F-14, there is where you will see how collectors tend to really feel as they vote with their pocket books. When it comes down to a truly great model, collectors due weigh in by such measurement generally.

As a collector, I tend purchase what I think looks the best. I want to collect the best of the best in terms of what I feel is a great display piece. I also consider though the value of the model down the line on the secondary market, both which tend to line up well.

Although... one of the first items I sold on eBay over a decade ago was a wood model of the X-30 NASP plane. I received it as a gift, although the retail at the time was about $ 240. which is close to around what I sold it for. I just picked one up on eBay for $ 45 shipped and it's one of my more favorite display pieces, because of the personal history and the intrinsic value I have for it. Can't believe I got it that cheap, but that is what the market bears for it now.

exactly peeps. it's a personal preference. buying a car to drive and be driven in comes with different sets of requirements. and whilst some people buy cars with an eye on its resale value, some just go for sheer performance or comfort etc etc etc. there's no right or wrong... just buy what u like and like what u buy. whilst the lambor is an awesome car, i'm satisfied with my honda... that sort of thing. first... the lambor is way off my budget and second the honda satisfy my needs. some are fortunate to indulge, others may not. but that doesn't mean just because a lambor is more expensive than a honda, it's THE car to get. the theory of marginal utility at play...

In a nutshell, we have no idea.

But many here find it "intuitive" that one is coming soon, and it would fit their (CW's) pattern of liking end-of-life Tomcat schemes. A blue-colored Cat would also fit in nicely with the red-color theme they've had going now for a while, between Tomato Reapers, Red Rippers, the new Tomcatters, and (sort of) Santa Cat...

Oh, I thought a couple others had joined you in that, sorry.

Either way it's unmistakeable that this unit is drawing a lot of interest, regardless of any speculation about CW's thought processes....

I actually just signed because I got my very first CW F-14 and wanted to ask if there's ever been a "Maverick" F-14 made in a similar scale.

Judging by this pic, I'm assuming not, so I was wondering what it would take to just make a custom one. Like, can I use a sticker sheet like this and just find a plain F-14?

If your gonna do a "custom" one. I'd use an old Witty airframe. CW are way too pricey and collectable to redo in my opinion.

Good tip, I'll look into it. Are there any places that sell those stickers with instructions?
