Default Will the US take another 1:72 B17 tooling...from Air Force 1??

Well there it is....will you buy AF1 B17s and do you think that AF1 could make a go of it?

I guess, the scheme selection would have to be pretty smart and the quality would have to be in-line with the P61. The price would likely have to be similar to the price comparison of the B25 (AF1 advertised at the Mule as $80 US) vs the Poochs effort ($100US). Not to mention, Pooch B17s on the secondary market are selling for huuuge prices.

I myself, will have a few. Its the one four engined heavy that I have not gone silly over, with the single Pooch B17 in my hanger. So my hanger will certainly take a few, particularly 8th Air Force B17s. If it happens, and I have no idea if it will, in my view, it will be the biggest news in the Hobby for an age. It is my understanding that there was serious consideration for a 1:72 four engined Heavy a year or two ago by another manufacturer, so its not beyond the realms of possibility.

What do you think, will the US market take another 1:72 B17 and will you partake?? Or, have you had your fill of Pooch B17s.

I very much doubt I'd buy one from AF1, don't have anything of theirs but will likely buy one of their MV-22's...

I have enough B-17's but if they do one & it comes out nicely I imagine the US (& other collectors) who've missed out on the Corgi releases will be all over them (prawn + Barra )

No, their reputation for quality is shot.

Serious?? I have their P61 and a beaut piece of Diecast.

Actually...I find the above rather odd. I mean I am not trying to be rude or start a blu, but where in the forums is there wide spread sentiment that AF1 "reputation for quality is shot"??

From what I have observed, its quite the opposite. The V22 is generally accepted better than FoVs, the SR-71 is quite accepted, bar the nose pitot/probe and some lads think the F16 and F35 (not the B variant) are as good as HMs.

And then there is the P61.

I also have their P-61 and I like it. I have a couple of the Corgi B-17s but would take a look at AF1 to see what they produce. Quality would have to be good though.

I will clarify that the models they make are more toy like than quality die cast. The large hinges on the drone and F-35 models, the SR-71 model created to compete with Century Wings did not even come close, really, most of these are more toy like than as a collectible piece. From what I have seen, these just don't measure up for the prices asked or the market they are competing in.

Fair enough Jeff.

Hopefully the upcoming B25 hits the mark for all collectors.

Will the US take another 1:72 B17 tooling...from Air Force 1??-art-styling-thunderbird2.jpg

The "Little Miss Mischief".

Will the US take another 1:72 B17 tooling...from Air Force 1??-3_46.jpg

Surely the US market would take to those??

I'd consider buying a Memphis Belle, as the Corgi price is out of my reach at the moment. That would definitely be popular. I would also love to see Yankee Lady, as it is an airshow bird I imagine it would be very popular.

While I am all for anther B-17 on the market (I'm one of those that failed to get one from Corgi) I still probably wouldn't get one from AF1....

My reason, they'll put more rivets on her then a WWI battleship and probably mess up any pin up they attempt. I think we should wait and see how their B-25 turns out before getting excited about any possible B-17's

I will give AF1 this, they at least priced the B-25 fairly reasonable for the quality they'll probably produce

BUT if I was, I would like "Little Patches" to be made

Little Miss Mischief (preferably by Corgi) is my most wanted B-17

Beaut detail on the first release 'Memphis Belle' - when Corgi gave us detailed receivers on the 0.50's etc

That is an amazing collection! What display case is that? Or is it custom built?

Thats why I want AF1 to give a 1:72 B17 a go. So I can have something like that. Pooch B17s are ridiculously priced these days.

Great collection MadMajor.

On the issue of quality, many of the AF1 releases, so far, have been of models designed for the Chinese market. The rather decent P-61 shows me that AF1's new toolings should be judged on a case by case basis, not rejected out of hand due to past failures.

Would I buy an AF1 B-17? I doubt it as I already have three from Corgi and my display space is overcrowded as it is. I would leap at the chance to buy an AF1 Betty, however---subject to seeing pictures of the model----and the same goes for many other "unusual subjects".
