Red face your thoughts on century wings F-14 diamond backs.

Hi

I just got the red rippers F-14. I really wanted the jolly Rodgers but I couldn't find any. And Santa cat is all over the Internet. I assume it's a bust. So I'm wondering if the upcoming diamond backs. Are going to be popular or not. Any one with opinion?

I think it's a relatively boring looking tomcat compared to my personal 'wish list' of F-14s. However, others are more excited about it. Betting against a CW F-14 is always a bad idea and I'm sure this will sell reasonably fast.

That also said, I think it is not impossible that we will see an F-14 released from at least one other diecast manufacturer in 2015 or at latest 2016.

In essence the Jolly Rogers are the most popular unit for Tomcats, so they will always be a safe bet if you gamble on price inflation.

The Diamondbacks have very nice markings in my opinion though. That being said there are so many other units that I would like to see being done by CW.

I am not interested myself in what's going to be popular or not. If I like the markings, I will try my best to get it, provided an aircraft fits within my collecting criteria.

I think the Diamondbacks cat will sell really well, nice livery with an interesting background story. For anyone who collects OEF, Afghanistan aircraft this will be a must for their collection.

Wartime aircraft always sell better than peacetime liverys, hence the Santa cat and that ugly tomato reapers cat being a flop.

It will definitely be for must for my collection!

This aircraft and its squadron have some history behind it. Probably more than any other squadron when it comes to war time Tomcats.

It's OK. Not a scheme I personally like but it should sell. Many people don't like the red tail schemes for some reason. The last Few CW F-14 releases have sold slower on the secondary market and prices seem lower than usual. I think it may be just the choices made on the liveries as of late.

As noted, if you are collecting as an investment, the Jolly Rogers always hold their value. But I recommend you get what you like, so if you do find yourself with something that does not sell, you will be happy to keep it in your collection. CW would be smart to listen to their customer base but that has been an on/off thing with them.

I've just picked up a Grim Reapers Tomato at a good price as I much preferred that scheme to the other recent releases (I prefer Red Tails!). As Tripoli and Richard said I'd just suggest getting whatever you like, but Jolly Rogers are always popular (even when I picked up a Revell F14A years ago!).

Yep - a nice scheme in my view and a definite purchase

CW Tomcats don't 'flop' - I have been collecting these since first release (back in the day when they could be sourced for $55) & I recall the Freelancers scheme sitting around in online stores for ages.

Now it fetches good money. Others have been the same, the two comparatively dull VF41 (1981 schemes) sat around for a while and the Mule had them heavily discounted in a couple of sales. Again - they fetch good money now on the secondary market.

My take is that with the scheme and the history the Diamond backs model will be a future classic

I'm very excited about this model/ scheme. I am pretty certain I am the one responsible for the TPS pattern color correction noted on the CW website as I sent them a couple of emails asking them to correct the incorrect pattern. I am looking forward to the updated pictures to come.

I don't know why anyone would say the VF-103 or VF-101 Tomato were flops, few CW's have been instant sell outs. If you recall, CW's black tail VF-101 was part of a "Mule Pack" several years back at TFM bundled with a CW F-8 for $50! Now you can easily spend $200+ for one on ebay!

CW F-14 are like a good wine, they get better with age. Also the kneeling JR tomcat is one of my favorites just trailing behind the all black vampires one.
