Default Corgi Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk, US Army "Super-Six One" Blackhawk Down 1993 AA35908A

This one just landed in my collection from the FlyingMule:

Corgi Aviation Archive
Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk
US Army, "Super-Six One"
Battle of Mogadishu - 1993, Blackhawk Down
Limited Edition: 900 Pieces, Item: AA35908A

Finally Corgi decided to make the Blackhawk Helicopter from the Battle of Mogadishu, more commonly known as "Blackhawk Down"

In August 1993 the Joint Special Operations Command of the United States launched Operation Gothic Serpent. This was an initiative designed to remove warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid from power in Mogadishu. A raid to arrest two of his senior advisors was launched on the 3rd October. However, the raid was to go down in history as a failure. Not only did Aidid escape but the American troops became surrounded in the city, casualties were taken and two UH-60L Blackhawks were lost.
The mission was led by elements of the American Rangers and Delta Force, with some travelling into the city via armoured vehicles, while others were dropped from helicopters. The first UH-60 to be lost was Super Six One, which was hit by a Rocket Propelled Grenade, and resulted in it crashing killing both pilots and left the crew severely wounded. The scene needed to be secured by two surviving Delta Force snipers.

While the rescue was being organized, a second UH60 was hit by an RPG. Super Six Four crashed shortly after 4pm with the pilot Michael Durant being injured but conscious, the rest of his crew were also severely injured. Two Delta Force snipers were then inserted to provide cover, holding off the baying Somali mob for over twenty minutes before being killed. For their actions, MSG Gordon and SFC Shughart were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, the first to be awarded since the Vietnam War. Durant was then badly beaten by the mob before being captured by Aidid’s militia.

By 6:30 A.M. the next morning the battle was over, UN forces with American assistance had rescued all of the besieged US troops, with only Durant remaining in captivity. He was released 11 days later. The action was a painful lesson for the United States, suffering a total of 18 men killed.

Since this represented a dark time in US history, I heard Sikorsky almost didn't sign off on the model. But I'm glad they finally did so we can always remember this piece of history. The model is very well made and sniperUK did a wonderful job advising them. It was hard for me to choose among the 3 models that Corgi put out "Super 61, 62, or 64" - at the end I decided to go with Super-Six One since it was the first one to go down that really marked the beginning of the tragedy.

Here you see a real footage (not from the movie) of Super-Six One Going down at the end of this video:

Here are the pictures:
Box Art:

Note: When you remove the model from packaging, please read the instructions, it's not like the other UH-60 packaging - you have to take out the entire plastic packaging and from the bottom unscrew the retainer to remove the model

Here she is next to Corgi's other Black Hawk model, see the significant changes it went though

Enjoy!

Good review as usual, SKF. I wonder what is 'super six two', 'super six four', and 'super six one'.

How much was this model at retail price? Are they still being sold for that amount, or is this model already going for more than the MSRP?

Corgi themselves had them on sale last month, with quite a nice discount.

They're the ejected shell dump chutes, so the hot brass goes away from the door gunner and doesn't possibly re-enter the helo cabin. They exist on MH-60s, but the Corgi model's ones might be too long.

yeah I know that but i've never seen a mh-60l with one. In fact if you google pictures of any of the battle of mogadishu helos, the shell dump chutes are not there
