The panel lines are way too much emphasised...
Got to smooth the wrinkles out

I agree. It's a bit disappointing

I just looked at my HM f-22 raptor and it looks soooo much better than what I'm seeing here.

Agreed, when painted one color, the body is smooth. The stick out lines are a huge problem for this mold. The whole poinmt of a stealth aircraft is to remove such stick out panels as possible.

Wait for the pre-pros regarding the panel lines, but from the look of the pink prototype it may be an issue.

I'm going to have to wait and see on this mold. I wouldn't be disappointed if I missed the first one. An Eglin AFB bird would be my preference, but hopefully they can hammer out any mistakes on this one.

YES!!! That's all I have wanted for the past seven months! I love that. Matter of fact my dad does woodworking for the military and he did work for the 412th two or three years ago! Can't wait until it comes to my LHC!

Nice...can't wait to see the pre-pros. Come on guys, everyone in this forum has been talking about this release so much over the last few weeks. it's way to early to down it the very first day it's announced. Like skinner said, wait for the pics. This is a huge release for HM, so I'm sure they will listen to our feedback over the nex couple mouths.

Any chance of having "have glass" on the model?

I mean a tinge of gold on the canopy, like this

I'm excited, but I agree, a little less emphasis on the panel lines would be a good thing.

On one hand it doesn't have to be a Franklin Mint model with NO panel lines, but on the other, it's still a smooth airplane...

It is a drawing though, not exactly a pre-pro.

DON'T have to worry about me ordering one of these! In my opinion there are several new moulds that we need other than an F-35.......but I guess there are many who are interested in this.

My son is going to like this one... Hopefully Hobby Master makes all the wings, and stabilizers out of diecast metal. based on the pre-pro pics (yeah, that pretty pink one) it looks like those bulging panel lines on the lower side of the nose area are a feature that collectors better learn to start loving....

Im happy to see HM finally produce the F-35 after months of waiting....in some new tooling.....the first issue mostly has its share of mistakes and corrected in later issues....the F-22 was a good example with its gaps......lets just see how it goes and not make too much negative remarks..... I myself am getting 1 or 2 examples of it......regarding to beauty....its simply....to each his own......

In term of panel line, isnt it always like this with HM? I mean especially with the mock up drawing, I think this drawing might also be use for manufacturing purposes, and having an extra emphasis on the panel line will help the modellers, model the aircraft correctly using the panel somewhat as a guideline. Thats just my thoughts anyway.

Though my biggest concern is why is there an antenna on the top of the fuselage, just behind the refuelling hole? From research, it looks like the Block 3 A variant does not have this feature, can anyone please confirm this?

I know it's been seen elsewhere, but for those posting here who have not seen the prototype, here's some photos. The first is from the 53rd Hobby Show in Japan. I'm not sure on the source for the 2nd...

Now you can see some of the concern regarding the panel lines. Some of them almost look inverted (projecting out instead of inwards). But obviously these are early prototypes - build specifically to test this sort of thing. So we'll see how it turns out...Personally, I'll be holding off until they do a RAAF version. And if they don't, I'll pass on it.

Personally, I'd have preferred to see an F-117.

A really nice picture of the bf-2.

Notice that it has a fairly smooth surface just like all other stealth fighters.

I'm still gonna get it regardless but I hope that they will fix the problem in the

future.

It should definitely be smooth. It's just basic aerodynamics. Aircraft designers would never do anything to create unnecessary drag.

Hey guys. I agree judging from the HM F-35 pre-release drawing, the model definitely needs some adjustments. The aforementioned panel lines definitely need to be adjusted and corrected to sit flush with the rest of the airframe. The worst offenders are the panel lines below the cockpit and the main belly and side body under the wings. Also for anyone curious about this F-35's appearance with the extended communications antenna/receiver, its indeed present on test aircraft based in Edwards Air Force Base. So there's no need to fret over the antenna. Though for other models not based at Edwards I would expect HM to get rid of the antenna in the future.

Hey guys,
I have a question about the release date for the F-35. I just looked on Pete's Collectibles and it said February 2014! I don't know if that is just for them or what. I would like to know if that's true.
Thanks,
Ben

That sounds about right. The HM release date of December is for Hong Kong availability. It is typically 4-8 weeks later that the models reach the US.

jetsarethebest I know that I am just as passionate as you are about this aircraft, or you probably be a bit more than I do, but unfortunately unless its extremely a special condition, HM will prefer not to sell directly to customer, so from the looks of it, is either we wait till feb, or somehow get in contact with a Hong Kong retailer, usually ebay.

VeteranTributes posted on another site that the production run for HA4401 with be 2,000 pieces.

I doubt it will be a pre-order sellout due to collectors wanting to see some production photos, but you never know. It's a new mold of a highly anticipated model, but I'm going to wait and see how it turns out.

Same here, although the YF-23 should have won based on its looks alone. Probably the sexiest fighter ever made IMO.

Agreed. I thank that the YF-23 should have won based on its looks. The F-22 took a while to grow on my, that's not the case with the F-35. I instantly loved the F-35!

The X-32 honestly isn't even much worse than the F-35 in my eyes. That photo looks like two fighter jets who have grown old and grey together with big beer bellies. They're both fat squatty looking things. Not a fan. Not one bit.

Made my day
I'm right with you there ... still can't talk myself into love for these 5th gen. stealth stuff. I understand that form has to follow function in this case, but sadly, this form is far far away from beeing worth attributes like "sleek" and "sexy".
If asked, i would kindly describe them as interesting-looking ... and you know what this means

Oh my word, if a comparison to the X-32 is going to be the argument for the pro F-35 people...

That's like comparing these "beauties":

X-32
Attachment 87806

F-35
Attachment 87805

Hey guys. I know everyone here is still rather confused and a bit worried about Hobby Master's upcoming F-35 release. I've contacted William for some clarification regarding the raised panel lines. This is his response:

William (Hobby Master response):

"The F-35 tooling raising panel is deliberately made higher and more protruding. The paint which is used on diecast models is thicker than normal modelling paint. Once the model is painted, such protruding will be less prominent."

So I guess that solves the issue with the raised panel lines.

Indeed this is a big concern for me as well. From my recent research on the subject only the early F-35s used for flight testing in before 2009 had the antenna. Aircraft 07-0744 is incidentally the first production model F-35 to be built for the USAF which Hobby Master is using to launch as their first diecast F-35 model is not the supposed to have the antenna as evidenced here:

Airframe Details for F-35 #07-0744 :: F-16.net

I've already sent an email to William again at Hobby Master to bring up the issue with the antenna. As the first mass produced F-35 delivered to the USAF it should "not" have the antenna poking out of the airframe. If anyone is wondering why the tail code changed between some of the pictures above, its because this particular aircraft was transferred from Elgin to Edwards Air Force Base in between the years.

The more I looked at the F-35, the more I think it is an awesome looking plane :-)

Just out of curiosity, do the F-35 haters dislike the 117? I can possibly see where a bubble cockpit could help the F35 looks. Like a P51B looks like crap compared to a D model. Other than that, not seeing the hate. Could be because I get to see them flying around on a daily basis though...

Always going to be those who like and those who don't. I like the F-35, I think it looks like a fighter. But then, I have a tough time disliking any fighter aircraft...they all look awesome to some degree. But an exception has to be made for the F-117...never could get used to the angles on that thing, the flat belly and the air conditioning return grills they used for engine intakes.

That's like comparing these "beauties":

X-32

F-35
Attachment 87805
Even though I don't agree, that was pretty funny

Not to change the subject here, but the cool thing about the F-117 is that it looks so different depending on the angle and how the picture was taken. For example:

This looks tough:

While this just looks odd:

Good news everyone. William and his team have corrected more details on this particular F-35. I've told William to remove the incorrect addition of the antenna from the aircraft along with the extra lines that are present on top and around the circumference of the nose cone. There is a catch with the nose cone however, as a narrow strip of plastic and metal underneath the nose is needed to connect the nose cone to the rest of the model. Hopefully any seams that may exist will be covered up by paint.

I've done my best with William to ensure that this model comes out great! Guess when it comes to new 21st Century jets like these you got to leave it to the younger generation of collectors to ensure that these models come out great. William is a joy to communicate with and I had a very easy time communicating what needed to be changed on this model similar to the communiques that ACpilot has been doing for the HM RCAF Golden Hawks release.

This is why I LOVE Hobby Master! Best part is I'll be in Hong Kong in late December and early January, just in time to pick up this F-35 release from the local retailers!

Good job Sachiel!

You will find that by taking the time to make a model better, it will actually personalize it and make it extra special in your collection.

It actually adds an entirely new dimension to the hobby!
