Lights on.

6 LEDs installed.

My last diorama for now. I broke my airbrush during this project.

Amazing work per your usual standards, Taki! Hyper-realistic even to the point of having electrical junction boxes and ventilators (although....where are the stacks?). The grass cover losing patches is a great touch. Your scratch-built bomb wagons are perfect...you might want to try your hand at other AGE units like generators and hydraulics test carts...you're a wizard of diorama! I really missed seeing your art at both sites while you were busy with your real life.

Thanks Steve. I completely forgot to installed the stack! Oh well, I'll just drill holes later and insert a tubes. My railroad skill came in handy in this project. I may take your suggestion and try building other GSEs when I'm working on a next project......after I get a new airbrush.

Great work. You have an impressive attention to detail. The lights are amazing at that scale... conduits and ventilation as well. The weapons cart is very well done.

I'd be very interested in seeing some construction photos of the bunker and other details if you have some, especially highlighting how you built the lights and carts.

Excellent photos as well.

Thanks for sharing.

Sorry Scott, I did not take any photos of the progress. I can give you some hints on what I did.

Herpa hangar's cover can easily be removed so the wiring can be done inside.

I used SMD (Surface Mounted Device/Diode), aka: chip LED, rather than a traditional ones.

Just over 1mm.

I'm using railroad power pack 12.5V to light it up so I linked 3 SMD per line and used 470Ω resistor.

I used Tamiya clear orange painted on SMD to give that incandescent color.
(The photo is from my railroad project.)

As for the cart, I used styrene sheet to construct. Sorry no progress photos were taken.

Ground foil: my airbrush broke suddenly so I printed the ground and pasted on a self-adhesive foam board.

Landscape: DAP Plaster of Paris

Grass: Woodland Scenic fine turf and burnt grass.

Thanks. I really appreciate the pics and detail on your process. The construction is just as interesting to me as the final diorama. LED diodes have revolutionized the diorama possibilities. The SMD is new to me. They look very handy compared to the larger bulbs. My local Radio Shack went out of business, so I have to order everything now... no quick trips to pick up whatever I had forgotten.

I love styrene, especially the corrigated type for old buildings. Do you use a dremel to cut it to shape?

You're making it very difficult for me to stick to 1/72 scale. I see so many cool ways to make dioramas at 1/200. A cut-away of the hangar deck of a carrier would be awesome. I need to go talk myself out of it now...

OOPS I made a mistake. SMD stands for Surface Mount Device which includes surface mounted diodes. There are various sizes and colors available. For 0603, you'll gonna need a very fine-point solder. My local shops don't carry any electronic parts so I have to order from outside the state too. I have Dremel but the speed regulator broke. It spins at full speed.

I do not stick to one scale so there are more option for me to display the way I want. CVN hangar diorama sounds like an excellent idea. As for me, I'm thinking of doing Hangar 18.
