Default Question for mfrs. re: registration numbers

I have wondered about this since I started collecting model airplanes. Maybe one or two manufacturers can chime in and answer. If there is an answer, haha!

How do manufacturers decide on which registration numbers to use on models? The answer is pretty clear on models of planes with special liveries, but what about models of planes with corporate liveries?

That is a good question. It is nice to see models (other than air Canada) with registration numbers of planes who have flown into Toronto example KLM 747 (new livery).

Well, I just wondered. Seems we see quite a few models of the same registration numbers.

I think it depends what complete references/photos they have of a particular plane. Once they have all-round views and decide on the scheme, they just go for it.

It is funny that virtually all the releases of KLM's Super G Connies are PH-LKK "Centaurus".

I think I may be responsible for that. I commissioned a custom 1/72 scale one from Atlantic Models in 1999. I flew on the bird as a kid and have a certificate from KLM commemorating the flight over the Equator.

Atlantic put it into regular production, and I began seeing Centaurus pop up from Western Models, Herpa, Hogan, and Aeroclassics.
