Ufology, secret tech and power, etc. Massive subjects, very speculative and not provable. But fun !

I collect dogs' tails in a bag.

Its not really through choice and I don't even know why The Voice commands me to do it.

But I must meet a monthly quota.

I enjoy the outdoors: Hiking, geocaching, collecting maps and spending the night in interesting places like caves and mountain shelters.

I also have radio control trucks, an N scale model railway, a record player and a few skateboards that I play with occasionally.

1/43 die cast cars - Fords and Shelby's from the 1960s. Left to right: Greenlight Steve McQueen Bullitt Mustang, True Scale Miniatures Shelby Daytona Coupe, and Del Prado Shelby Cobra 427 S/C. The Greenlight and Del Prado are both dirt cheap ($15) but are fairly good quality, the TSM highest quality and price ($75). Ive got rather complete stables of 1/43 Porsche's and Ford GT's, and a moderate collection of Ferrari's. Doug

Nice models! I also collect diecast cars. Mainly 1/18 F1 and Indycars. Greenlight has the licensing to do the Indycars which they produce in 1/64 as well as 1/18. I pick up the latter. They are nice quality. Meijer grocery stores here in Ky carry the Greenlight cars. Yeah they may be $5.00 for a 1/64 car, but the detail is 5 times nicer than HW or Matchbox.

This is the 1/18 Indycar of C Daly. He drove this at last years Indy 500. For $52.00 you cannot beat it. I dont know if the rivets come thru on the pics. But they made it look like aircraft skin and Greenlight nailed it with the scheme.

I'm stuck in the 60's, and followed F-1 then, even got to see Jim Clark in his Lotus at Monaco. Most of my models are from that period. Never got into NASCAR or Indy cars, and always thought that Indy cars were related to F-1 cars in a way. Later, Doug

Cant say I remember too much about the 60s. I didn't see the light of day till 1973. Wow, Monaco. Must have been awesome! Where did you sit do you remember? I'll watch Nascab when there is nothing else to watch. Having said that, I do collect Kyle Busch 1/24 M&M's cars. I just like the diff paint schemes for either a new flavor or promotion. They are colorful and nicely done by Lionel. Bought this last week btw. All diecast too and heavy.

All very noble side interests. My other "hobby" is actually being the National Aeronutics Supervisor for Science Olympiad. This means indoor flight whether Elastic Launch Gliders or Wright Stuff (Indoor Rubber Powered Airplanes). These are teams made up of middle school teams (B Division) and high school teams (C Division). Somehow I am involved with 10,000 students learning how to make inherantly stable endurance aircraft flown in gynasiums or oter large facilities.

To get a concept of rubber powered flight contests, just Google PENNYPLANE flight. It will give an idea of high-time long endurance for competitions.

Regards, Tom

Getting back into collecting Model Horses. Been a collector since 1970, and really got into it just after I lost my Mom in 1997. Like the Plane shows, there are Model Horse Shows. There are usually two main parts. Halter and Performance. I show in Halter as I do not have the patience for performance. Performance can be anything from Horse racing to Show Jumping or Rodeo scenes. Halter is usually shown under breeds and types. Here are some photos of some of my models.

Oh gosh, I know it's been many years now but I'm sorry for your loss.

I am not studied in equestrian breeds, but I do appreciate their beauty. I suppose for me, I like the more robust type. A favorite of mine has always been the Clydesdale. In movies and cinema, I adored Black Beauty and of course, Artax; a beloved horse in "The Neverending Story".

As 'hobbies' go, I like making short movies with friends for fun. Although that's really an extension of the day job as a TV cameraman. Here's one we did recently, it got played at a horror movie festival in New York last year. (contains mild gore)

Nice horse models there!
I live not far from where our local police horses are kept which coincidentally is also an adjacent field to where my friend keeps her horses too so I love going over to see and photograph them.
My hobbies mainly consist of flying (I have my PPL) Long walks, photography, gardening.. I used to play badminton quite a lot. I'll pretty much watch most sports.

More 1/43 die cast sportscars - Ford GTs. My first car was a 1948 Ford 2 door sedan, flathead V-8. I've always been partial to Ford V-8s, and the last Ford GT, a V-6 released for a LeMans rerun 50 years after the original GT V-8s dominated, fell flat. Competitive, but not like the originals. Ah, the 'good old days', Doug

..... Not contributing much of anything initially, I've retired a number of years ago and have the rest of my life to devote to hobbies. With the current miserable circumstances my plans for travel have been taken away from me. I grieve at the cancellation of the 2 week Baltic cruise I was looking forward to most of all (start in Copenhagen, go to Germany, St Petersburg, Tallin, Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo and ending in London)
..... So what do I have left? I haven't bought a diecast model in nearly eleven years and attempting to sell most of my collection.
  • Scanning slides & negatives, having them printed and designing pages to mount them on. These photos reflect my travels, aviation, Navy & civil vessels, trains (mostly done already), family/friends.
  • Photography: I have an expensive Nikon camera (no Kodachrome, it's digital) I have used very little.
  • Watching all the movies and TV shows I never watched before or worth watching again.
  • Continue to write essays and stories (will they ever be read?)
  • Losing weight and lowering the blood pressure. Doing good, I may make 100 after all... 29 years to go!
  • Volunteering in the hospital emergency room. Satisfying, but suspended at the moment.
  • My binoculars can help me keep and eye on what's in the night sky. Favourite constellation is Orion. Always love astronomy/astrophysics.
  • Study history.
  • Spoiling my little wife. No problem there since I married her in Indonesia.
  • Gardening... tomatoes and cucumbers are an absolute must.

..... There are lesser things I do. I always recommend develop many hobbies and interests so that by the time you retire you have something to do.
Dave

More 1/43 scale F1s... Two F1s that I saw on weekend leave in 1962 as I served valiantly in the U.S. Army in France as a food inspector. A Ferrari 156 and a Porsche 804. Phil Hill was a driver for the Ferrari, and Dan Gurney drove the Porsche. Both American drivers lived to enjoy retirement. These cars bear no resemblance to current F! designs, but you can't deny their beauty. Doug

It being Halloween and all, let's revive this for another pass. Great gore, Allen. Doug

I am a photographer that usually covers motorsports and I collect 1/18th scale race cars, mainly IMSA, WEC, Le Mans cars etc.

I have a small collection of 1:18 cars, mostly supercars that I will never own

I am also into astronomy - I don't get my telescope out as often as I should (especially in winter).

I occasionally race in the 24 Hours of Lemons and do other track events: www.24hoursoflemons.com

But my main other hobby is mechanical watches - particularly microbrands with interesting dials (guilloche patterns, actual slices of meteorite, etc.). Here's where my hobbies intersect: I just picked up a Zelos Skyraider that has part of the wing panel of a Supermarine Spitfire as the dial.

Here's the state of my collection at the moment (Spitfire Skyraider is top left):

Not sure if it's a hobby yet, but the older I get the more I enjoy watching birds...

The Wright brothers learned much about flying dynamics from observing birds. No airplane will ever handle flying as capably as some birds. Doug

I think that's why I enjoy them now. They effortlessly fly around. Hummingbirds are one of my favorites, for numerous personal reasons, and I've always wondered how could we incorporate the movement of a hummingbird into an aircraft.

I'm a beach boy, so a Heron is definitely my favorite.

You have some great hobbies. I'm definitely into supercar models, astronomy, racing and think your varied collection of mechanical watches are beautiful. Definitely an investment there. The only mechanical watch I have is a Tissot. I like its conservative appearance and use it for suits or dress shirt and slacks.

It's been a few years, but I occasionally do some pencil sketching, both B&W and coloured pencil. Not so much coloured pencil. Very difficult medium to work with, I felt. I started getting more into digital art in 2019 which I still do sometimes. I have to be in the mood for it, though. Note the B&W sketches were only done in about 30 minutes so I didn't put a lot of effort or time into them. Sorry for the poor quality; these are screen grabs from my Instagram account.

My emergency vehicle photography hobby snagged me a rare vehicle, a US Parks Ranger Chevrolet Silverado Z71 Ghost Graphics.

Attached is a photo of it as well as a similar truck in normal livery. Ranger I spoke to said there are less than 10 in the whole countries Ranger fleet.

I may be the first to have posted a photo of one online.

I also enjoy riding my electric bicycle which helped me see those ranger trucks recently

I didn't know emergency vehicle photography was a hobby, but now I'm definitely interested! I've seen a lot of pretty striking graphics on vehicles during my travels and never thought to photograph them

I kinda jump from hobby to hobby but I do enjoy some PC gaming from time to time, as well as going up in the moutains for long distance hikes.
I've also passed my sports shooting exams last year.
En if I have spare time I find it relaxing to assemble and paint Warhammer 40k models.
