Default EBay overpriced

Herpa 1:500 KLM Royal Dutch Airlines B777-200ER | eBay

Is there any particular reason for why this is so expensive? I know I haven't seen many KLM 777s, but this is crazy.....

Ray Aviation is another one of those infamous eBayers from Hong Kong. If he perceives the item to be valuable he's not shy about sticking it to you.

You think the KLM triple seven is bad? Take a look at these--

InFlight200 1:200 CATHAY PACIFIC AIRWAYS L1011 VR-HHK | eBay

InFlight200 1:200 JAL Japan Airlines B747-400 JA8906 | eBay

Positively horrifiying

Has anyone actually purchased anything from Ray Aviation? Hong Kong Ebay sellers scare me, ive had a few bad experiences with them, but he does have some nice models for sale.

'evilBay/fleaBay' is always the last resort in my world. So much so that when I've exhausted my usual resources, I often ask myself 'Do I really need this?', and promptly move on.

I take the view that evil bay is like any other shopping thing. You need to do your research on the seller and make sure you're covered, pay pal protection etc. Get it right and it can be a good place for bargains and that hard to find model.

As for prices, it's entirely up to you to decide if you are happy with paying the amount advertised or the bid to win the item. Walk away if it's above what you're prepared to pay. Who knows, perhaps when you return later the seller could have reduced the price.

Ebay is not "evil". It's like any other business. If a seller lists something at a higher than usual price then chances are the item won't be sold. The buyers are most often at fault for giving Ebay a bad rap. Bidding wars and exaggerated bids cause these stupid high prices on these cheap pieces of zinc.

I just sold a V-Aus. 777-300 for $40 UNDER retail. How the hell is that EVIL? The prices are dictated by demand. If there is a large number of people looking for a model, its gonna cost you.

There are great deals on ebay, i have purchased quite a few sold out models for a reasonable price. Then there are some listed well above market value, such as a 1011 i mentioned on another thread, but i won't go there...

This seller here has some hard to find ACs occasionally... at great prices & shipping + 100% FB!

AeroClassics 1/400 707-320 Northwest Airlines (N351US) | eBay

I never quite understood the need to bid the item into the stratosphere a week before the auction ends. You can be high bidder in the last seconds almost as easily as being high bidder for the entire week, and you'll not have tipped your hand to all the other bidders as if to say "hey everyone, I've got plenty of money so let's have a bid war and make the seller as much money as possible".

I quite agree, especially if it's between the two same bidders. It's self-defeating, all it does it raise the price above what you could have paid. Best to do as you've posted. Set yourself a maximum bid and submit it in the last few seconds. It shouldn't matter if you do happen to lose because the model went for a price higher than you're prepared to paid.

It happens sometimes because the high bidder will be away at the time the auction ends. I once had to leave on vacation so I had to enter my highest possible bid at the beginning of an auction. Other bidders in the meantime were placing bids over and over because they were constantly automatically outbid by my high bid raising the price. It happens sometimes.
