Default Earthquake Shuts Down Airports!!!

I Just heard about an earthquake in Virginia! (I guess that's what i felt this afternoon :P ) Apperently it has closed down (all or parts) some airports including:

-Baltimore (BWI)
-Philadelphia (PHL)
-New York-JFK (JFK)
-New York-La Guardia (LGA)
-Newark (EWR)
-Washington-Dulles (IAD)
-Washington-National (DCA)

I'm sure A LOT of other things are affected and also my best wishes to anyone near the epicenter!

I felt a wobbler here in mid-town around 2:00pm for a few seconds so that confirms my suspicions.

Virginia you say.

I didn't feel a thing. But apparently it did some major damage:

Working in Norfolk, I was approximately 125 miles from the epicenter near Mineral, Va. I was in the breakroom and felt the motion of the building and blinds moving. My first thought was whether I was losing my equilibrium; kind of a fluid motion. When I got home, I found a couple items on the floor.

After surviving the eastcoast earthquake of the century, I now have to prepare for Hurricane Irene. Let's see, I'm gonna need some beef jerky, bottled water, batteries...

It was pretty rough about 20 miles north of DC. I was in Columbia at a Chipotle and at first I thought someone was shaking the table. The lights started shaking and I saw the workers bolt, so everyone got up and walked outside. It was pretty intense, but not like - 18 hours of news coverage intense.

Well, not everyone lives in California. If you have never felt one before, it is quite a startling experience.

We get earthquakes like this in California all the time and you don't see the freaked out news coverage like we are getting with this quake. Very funny to watch.

It would be absolutely HILARIOUS to see what would happen if it snowed down there in the LA basin. It would be Armageddon and the Apocalypse combined. Los Angeles would implode.

And if you even THINK about referring to those light dustings of graupel as snow....

I also think it's a bit ridiculous that this is getting a lot of news coverage.

If we get rain in LA everyone freaks out. I've driven in some bad snow many time before and LA freeways would be closed if it snowed here.

I agree, she's no nice and I'm staying up in anticipation of her arrival secretly while my wife and daughter asleep

I was at work in DC next to CNN building when it happened. I am thinking of resigning from emergency management team at my work - although the building did a nice belly dancing it was short, I wasn't particularly scared - but certainly forgot my role and left the building...

Seems like a pretty crappy week/weekend for Cities along the US Eastern Seaboard.

Yeah I live in New Jersey right now and it's not raining, only some gusts of wind. Most of the choppy stuff happened last night. I'm sure that by tonight PHL, LGA, EWR, and JFK should start to be booting up again. This storm was nothing, I've seen much worse.

From what you and others have said, it looks like some regions were affected more than others. I guess a lot of us could e-quake it to a short carnival ride of sorts.

Throw in the Great Dismal Swamp fire that began in early August and has burned 6000 acres so far. Depending on the wind drift, I've seen and breathed more smoky days than I'd like. Hopefully, Irene had some affect on it.

1) Fire as seen from space is for the most part burning in Virginia.
2 & 3) The swamp factory.
4) Roadway with smoky wind drift.
