Upcoming Elections (not again!!)

Before I start, for those who know her, Ann Coulter released a book on CD called "If Democrats had brains they'd be Republicans" which brings me to my point. I'm a conservative and yet none of the Republican candidates are worth voting for. They seem to have all this potential but no initiative. The only candidate that's worth listening to and my vote is Barak Obama. The other Democrats can "suck-it." My two cents. You're comments and criticism are welcome.

Re: Upcoming Elections (not again!!)

We are living in crazy times in this country. Alan Greenspan, the best Chairman of the Federal Reserve so far, rates Bill Clinton as the best president he ever new; a true Republican.

Republican!? Yes. Greenspan points to his fiscal conservatism, his moderate policies and the steps Clinton took to boost the economy to new heights. And, most Democrats could barely stand him. Now, I am a conservative and if he could be president again, I would be under the desk blowing him!:envy:

So I will probably vote for Hillary hoping some of him rubbed off on her (no pun intended).

But, I am not optimistic. When it comes to politics I agree with Jay Leno. Whenever I feel like I am a Republican, they do something greedy and whenever I think I am a Democrat, they do something stupid!

Interesting. I don't know her, but does it mean she considers Republicans as unable to read ?...:D

Not gonna argue there. It'll be a long time until we get more than one candidate on both sides that will be worth our votes. And read too.

I second that. Barack Obama is an empty shirt. He's being pushed because so many want a minority President at any cost. I personally don't care what race/ethnicity/sex/religion the next President will be, I just don't want another crappy four years with a bad POTUS. Obama isn't a good choice, definately NOT Hillary, and all the rest are weak...we just can't seem to come up with a good candidate anymore.

Empty shirt compared to who? I don't think race plays in to his popularity. When Jesse ran I never knew one conservative who said they were going to vote for him. I like him because of his stance on most domestic and international policies. I'm with him on spending, sending Pakistan a strong message to find Bin-Laden and resolving Iraq. I am not with him for disarming our nukes. It's all moot however, he will not the democratic nomination. Hillary will because the fix is in.

I have a terrible time remembering names. Numbers great, but names no way. So I can't remember the comedian who HBO sponsored to teach an American Government class session, and later another one due to how great he was.

The point he made was, ".. Americans voting in mediocre presidents is American As Apple Pie!"

He then launched in to a history of Franklin Pierce a president so bad his own party would not nominate him to run for a second term. One night he got liquored up and went out riding his horse and ran over a lady walking down the road. The first U. S. president driving drunk!

He then detailed President Pierce's family tree up well into the 20th century to his great, great, great (etc.) granddaughter, Barbara Bush. George W. Bush's mother.

As American as apple pie!:D

Well, just a nomination...doesn't neccesary mean it will translate to a vote though as many things can happen between nomination and election.

Much of the country hated Lincoln in his time. The North was not doing well the first years of the war, New York had open riots that the Navy had to stop (by firing into the city from ships in the harbor), England and France were openly friendly with the South, and prices of everything skyrocketed. Teddy Roosevelt was considered a war-monger. Franklin Roosevelt was hated as a socialist. Jefferson was considered a fool by many for buying Louisiana (so much money for all that empty, Indian-infested land!). Almost every President was reviled for one thing or another during their term. History has been kind to many...but it ain't gonna happen for Bush!

..... Once upon a time audiobooks were produced for sight impaired and blind people. Don't read too much into it though (pun partially intended). Nowadays every book that has the slightest chance of being on the best seller list gets an audiobook counterpart.
..... I suppose there's a number of reasons for their popularity among sighted people: too damned lazy to read, listen to a book while driving (or other activity where reading would be inconvenient), etc. I once heard someone claim they listened to the books because they just didn't have the time to read the book. Huh? But she did have the time to listen to it?

Come on you should be able to live past 61. I think the average age now is 74. There is a difference between history based on facts and passionate feelings. What we see now is the latter.

Re: Upcoming Elections (not again!!)

I salute you for supporting our President. I once did, also, but have since realized that we've made a terrible choice in leadership. Al Gore would not have been an improvement, and neither would Kerry, so I guess we were limited in our choices. But sometimes there comes a period in history when the right man or woman for the job never shows up. I personally didn't care much for President Clinton, but during his term, the country did well, the deficit was absolved, and although he slashed the military, it was necessary because it had gotten so large from the Reagan years, and needed the trimming. That's from the rational viewpoint, and so is my take on President Bush. I personally think Mr Bush is probably a very nice guy, like Jimmy Carter is, but his leadership is poor. You can't deny that things have not gone well since he took office. Much of it is not his fault, but the perception is there because of his poor skill at leading the country. The fact that we attacked Iraq, against the advice and concent of our allies, and world opinion is way down on the American government because of this, is one of the reasons I feel the way I do about our President. Iraq was contained, there was no threat, and if the situation had warranted, we could have intervened against them at any time. The war to depose Saddam was not necessary. If we were to feel justified in this, then why not attempt to depose other obnoxious and potentially troublesome leaders in Iran, N. Korea, China, and even Russia? There is no way we can impose democracy on the world, they have to find it in themselves to change. The will of the people has to be the catalyst, like it was in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. We occupy a nation resentful of our presence, and have an enemy that all the power of the United States will not be able to eradicate. This is not what America is all about. We need to have world opinion and support to remove Al Qaeda, we need to let Iraq decide it's own future...which it will do when we leave regardless of what we do there. President Bush needs to understand this is a situation we can't win, no matter how much money or how many troops we send there. This is my anger at an obtuse government and its leadership.

Steve, I'm not going to get in another long discussion about this topic on this site because I don't think it will get us anywhere. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and I'm pretty sure you know what mine is. I'm just going to leave this one alone because I feel like I would just be repeating what I said in a prior thread that went on forever. I'll just agree to disagree.

Absolutely, Garth. I have never wanted my viewpoint to create a wedge in relationships with others, so I mostly keep it to myself. Here I can vent, and heck, if you don't agree, eh, that's your perogative. I've had a good rapport with you, and we've done some nice trades, so as far as politics and religion (hope THAT never gets brought up ) are concerned, to each his or her own. :D

You said it all. But why do you have to be in real trouble to realize this ? To most people here Bush re-election was clearly not understandable. About war I think (and it's MY own opinion) that US people are quite easy to manipulate : show them X as a horrible man ready to destroy their "way of life", if war goes well it's OK, if it goes wrong just tell them to "back up their boys". And of course if you don't agree with that then you're not a "patriot". Quite straightforward IMO.
Even if I never agreed with war in Iraq (but who am I to disagree ?...), I think occupation forces should'nt withdraw now, leaving the country in chaos, and Democrat's efforts to get this withdrawal seem very unwise to me. Of course these efforts are not without relations with the oncoming elections...
Bush in history books ? Why not, Reagan already has it's aircraft carrier !:D

Actually, I think all people are easy to manipulate, whether American, French or Hutu. All you need is someone to tell them that what they do will improve their lives, and they'll do it. I'm not an advocate of immediate withdrawal from Iraq, either; I just think it was a mistake to invade in the first place (and I said that from the beginning). We should make plans for a staged withdrawal over the next three to five years, though. Whether we leave a stable government or not, we can't be seen as conquerors and imperialists, especially not by the Arab community (even though that's exactly how they see us right now). The right of any nation is self-determination, and Iraq needs to stand and face its future on its own. If the people and the government are strong enough to resist the radicals remains a question, but it'll always be in doubt as long as we're there.

Who is the best man to run for President and why isn't he running?
..... I'm more likely to ask why? None of the egos ring my bells. The one that allegedly represents me in the Senate is nothing more than a worthless lump. On election day I'd have to hold my nose to vote for one over the other, in other words, selecting the lesser of two evils.

  • Get off your @$$ and go to work
  • Don't expect something when you stick your hand out
  • Take care of yourself instead of relying on the government and taxpayers.
  • Don't expect me or anyone else do something that you're too lazy to do for yourself.
  • Don't expect special "rights" because you're this or that group. Buck up... we're all Americans.
  • Illegal immigrants are ILLEGAL! Do everything to make them want to go home. Those that go the legal route are always welcome.
  • Hey! Countries where those illegals come from... get your freakin' act together, take care of your country! Make it worth staying in.
..... See? Lots of opinions and those are by no means even a small sample. Can't run for President of the US anyway. Born in another country so I'm not eligible (yes, I was a LEGAL immigrant, thanks for asking).:)

First, the media is a bunch of lying pos with their own agenda no matter where you go. When media outlets go out of their way to invent their own stories you have to wonder who's side are they really on. Dave it's too bad that you don't have more money because you could become govenor of New York. Spitzer's plan for giving licenses too illegals is ridiculous. ..... Think of it this way... with their constant diarrhea of lies, inaction and just outright ignoring the voters they have more than earned it. Steve, I'm sure you can see through the lies by now, especially since you live in Louisiana.
..... Whenever I listen to these politicians on the so-called "important issues" they either really have no plan, avoid answering any pertinent questions, perform a repetior of ad hominem attacks, talk about something else, give a meaningless response, etc. So many of them don't even know the facts... they go by what someone told them or what they read in the NY Times. Of course I always wonder how many actually ever had to work for a living and that would be very few of them with the rest being professional politicians, political clowns/hangers-on, government clowns and appointed to this or that.
..... Sadly enough, we the voters have put ourselves into this sad state. As I see it, the voters now have no power anyway. We get thrown what the politicians deign to give us. We have no choice anymore. I can't even vote in a primary (not that it would be worth-while anyway) because I am not registered in a party. It's all enough to make you weep.

New platform idea!:
  • New energy source- tap into the energy of the Founding Fathers, Lincoln, FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Reagan as they spin in their graves. More power there than all the nuclear reactors.

Re: Upcoming Elections (not again!!)

My worst fear is that the next election will be as close as the 2000 election and the Republicans will steal it again. As far as vote counting goes, nothing has changed. Jeb still running FLA?

I think Fred Thompson could win the nomination, he has that image that suckers a lot of people in ala that useless POSTGHD Reagan.
I don't see anyone beating Hillary for the nomination but I wish Gore would run again, being away from politics for 8 years seems to have had a cleansing effect.
