"Look! They've elected a new pope!"- EuroTrip

That was fast! I was only four when the last Pope was elected so what was it like then for those who may have seen it.

May the Lord guide him the way to becoming a pope of hope, peace, tolerance, and understanding.

Faster than I or I think anyone else expected. I may not be catholic, but I wish the man good luck, he has big shoes to fill. Only thing I can think of that might cause him major headaches is his association willing or unwilling in the Hitler Youth and the WW2 German Army. I am not judging here, and I understand he deserted from the German army near the end of the War, I am just saying, this could be a problem for him. I wonder why they chose a guy so old though, he was only 2 years under the age limits for to be in teh College of Cardinals. oh well. Like I said, good luck to him.

I don´t believe, that a rather short performance of very young Joseph in Hitler Youth or Wehrmacht would cause him any kind of headaches nowadays! Six times PhD, highly honoured professor of theology and a pretty outstanding carrier in catholic church with 20 years of Vatican, being one of the nearest councilours of high clerus (from Cardinal Frings to John Paul II) will weigh a lot more than what he would have done way back in Nazi Germany! Headaches will cause him his rather conservative opinions on catholic church affairs, his positions towards other religions, his political role in a pretty torn appart world, his fight with Brazilian writer Boff, yes, and while we´re at it: pope Pius XII role towards Nazi regime...

Yes, we Germans are some what proud of a German being Pope - but this man won´t be exactly the one who will guide the catholic church into modern times... It wasn´t us who voted for him, it were the cardinals of all over the world (and John Paul II instructions as well)...

Just another important figure in worlds Chess game... who know´s what the outcome will be...

I celebrated by having eggs for breakfast. 1 1/3 dozen to be precise.
