Default TWA Captain Lapel Wing (1970s)

After visiting my sister near Denver, she called me a few days later about an estate sale in her neighborhood. The man who lived there was a former TWA pilot. Besides the uniforms and such items he kept from his career, he had amassed a fairly large collection of everything TWA.

My sister sent me a number of pics and although there was no wing for the hat, I choose lapel wing. They asked for $60.00 and I countered with $40.00. They accepted and afterwards, my sister picked up a couple other TWA items I asked for.

Pics of the 1/20 10K G.F. lapel wing and where I placed it in my showcase.

I know what you mean. Once in a while, I check with feebay for wings. Couple times in the distant past, I got lucky with final price. But, as you said, many fetch a few Franklins and it's just not worth it to me.

Appreciate that and thank you for getting the verification. As an aside, if the estate didn't accept my offer, I would've paid their asking price of $60. My sister and I had fun working out everything via text and phone.

Nice find! Yes EBay has some nice TWA collectibles, I have bought a few. I have also noticed new produced items like clothing caps, hats, shirts and sweatshirts. The more original the better!

Thanks! Over the years, EBay has been the main source for my collection of everything airline related. Can't say enough about that. There are a lot of new items which is good. But, like you, the more original the better.

At the 2006 Airliners International Show in Washington DC, I was selling a number of items. This German lady asked me if my Pan Am and TWA tote bags were original. Realizing that modern Pan Am tote bags were being produced at the time, I assured her that they were original. That's all I collected anyway. She was very happy about that and bought them. Of course, most of the profit I made was spent on other things at the show. Kind of funny how that works out.

Very nice! I know that name, Blackinton - they make police badges, I was looking for a Dade County one like Don Johnson had in Miami Vice and that name came up. Love the nostalgia of TWA, you scored a bargain. Thanks for sharing.

Good stuff. Also a reminder that we can't take it with us.

I like your interest in finding the Blackinton Dade County badge with the Don Johnson history. Totally cool show. Hope you get one.

Knowing that we can't take anything with us, it's comforting to know we can appreciate the items we receive from family, friends and strangers during our lifetime. Also, that's why it's important to have a Living Will and Last Will and Testament. When I die, my collections will be scattered like the stars.

Thanks, it really was - the music, the clothes, the cars, the location, the way it was shot - awesome in every way. It broke new ground at the time. I have a decent replica which I shall be content with for the time being, complete with an authentic leather wallet and repro I.D card

Miami Vice was everything you said it was. And at least, you have the complete replica.

Thanks for sharing your wing find.

I always tried to look for a site like this. Unfortunately, the search engine never came close to steering me in the right direction. I can now do some decent researching. Many thanks to you!!!

You got yourself a real bargain! Congratulations!

Another website that I use as a reference for my collection of wings of U.S. carriers is stanwing.com. Great website and has more information about different versions of airline wings through the ages.
