Default Least Liked Airframe?

Like the title says, what is your least liked airframe?

For me it is the A321! It appears desperate to be a 757!

Since you asked.... I do agree with you about the A321. I know the engineering experts know what is necessary in design, so my opinions are more aesthetic reasons... My least liked airframe are the babybusses A319, 320, and 321, which i don't have a single one in my collection. Not yet at least... The horizontal stabilizers appear undersized, and the wings appear like they should have more surface area.

Well said! My sentiments exactly re the aesthetics! I got used to the 319 and 320, but the 321 is a stretch for me (a little pun intended)!

I don't own a single 321 in my collection and probably won't be adding one anytime soon! Now I do have the 319 and 320, mainly United as that is what I used to fly on all the time from US East to West coasts. Also Virgin America! Got to ride on the JetBlue 320's also, but none in my collection.

Hmmm interesting question - I agree that the A321 is nothing super special to look at but I've flown on quite a few and they're comparatively comfortable, so they definitely occupy spots in my collection and I don't dislike them.

The A380 is pretty fugly but it's an engineering marvel and by far the most comfortable flight I've ever had (in economy, anyway) so I don't think I'd put it at the bottom either.

I'm gonna go with the Lockheed Electra. It's like the pug of airliners with its squashed face, and considering that it followed the Constellation and preceded the L-1011, two of the most beautiful airliners ever, it's definitely the bottom of that barrel.

I am not a fan of all those Russian and Chinese airliners! There, I said it, EC

Wise choice on the Airbus single aisle stretch. But I love the A318 with the huge CFM engines! Ha. I’m not a fan of the A330 either.. 340 is cool cuz four, A350 is cool cuz of nose and engines. A380 obviously great.

This isn’t gonna be popular, but the B737-200. Ehh. Don’t like the pencil engines.. and it just looks too heavy to fly. B767-300... worst Boeing jet for me.

The A380. Important aircraft in aviation but just not a aesthetically pleasing aicraft to look at imo.

Hehehe, the 767-300 only had a f*cking fuel system but otherwise it is a great aircraft.

When talking about jet aircraft, I‘d go with the A321 as least liked airframe. It surely was the DC-10 in the 1970‘s and 1980‘s - and even it’s age does not wake up any nostalgic feelings in me. Another unaesthetic airframe is the VFW-614, just topped by the Baade 152.

It would be easier to list my favourites (from an aesthetic standpoint): TriStar; 747 (except SP); 727; 757; 787; 350, Concorde.

Well it did have the quite unflattering FLUF nickname from pilots but honestly it's the only 737 that I really like anymore. Watching the thrust reversers was fun on those.

Ahahaha I did not know that about FLUF. Pretty funny stuff. You’re right about the reverse thrusters .. thanks for the new perspective on our little fat boy. It also doesn’t help that Inflight somehow make it fatter, and HEAVIER than the real thing!

I think the A350 series is the first really attractive airframe built by Airbus, the A380 looks like a flying building, and the baby Buses are “meh.” A340 was kind of cool because of the 4 engines, but I only liked the A340-300, the -200 was stubby and the -600 looked ridiculous.

Although an interesting aircraft, the Bréguet Deux Ponts was pretty ugly, too. The Shorts 330 and 360 were up there in my ugly book, literally flying boxcars.

The DC-10 wasn’t particularly aesthetically appealing, I think it’s because of the tail engine configuration, the L-1011 looked better.

Same here. It's the only 737 i would be interested in adding to my collection. If only i can find a deal on a Western white top Winnebago or Air Florida...

Well you are definitely at odds with the majority of aviation enthusiasts

Most would agree the 747 is the sexiest widebody to ever grace the skies...

but anyways.....enjoy your Whalejets...

Plus the 737-200 engine nacelles/cowling has the same shape as the Messerschmitt Me 262 engine.

Yes, I absolutely agree, I have never had a really soft spot for the 747, nor for the BAC 1-11 or IL-114 to mention some.

My favorite for the time being: Airbus A321!

Pencil engines! I'm gonna use that term. Yeah, at first glance, you wonder (and this was my comment about it when i was a young enthusiast) how's that airplane gonna get off the ground with those two pipes under the wings? That said, I absolutely love the 737-200. A cute little airliner i always thought...even with pencil engines.

Don't mean to be on a downer, as enthusiasts we probably get excited being around or in any aircraft. Who cannot get excited seeing even the most mundane airplane departing or on approach, or an exotic making contrails type high up Plus beauty or lack thereof is in the eye of the beholder. Having said this, I must add IMO any and all variants of 737 fail to inspire much of my own interest. From the 70's seeing the Jurassic 737 (-100 and -200) and thinking how stubby and portly it looked, up to the NG variants with the squashed engines , shorty main gear end extended dorsal fillet, and the latest MAX with the awkward looking engines and oddball winglets (of course incorporating similar shorty gear and truncated fin), none stir much interest in me. Plus the fact that 737's are in abundance in this neck of the woods with not much variety besides that (thank goodness we do have the odd BAe-146/Avro RJ flying around) and they have become so ubiquitous. There, I've said it and can now continue on with a peaceful existence

As a group, I don't care much for Airbus aircraft, but they do form a significant part of my collection. My least liked airframe would definitely be the Hawker Siddeley Trident. I have one each of the Trident 1, 2 and 3 in my collection, only because I collect at least one of every aircraft type produced in 1/400 scale.

Had to look those up to see what you're talking about. Yes, those are definitely ugly aircraft!

Here are some that I absolutely abhor! ATL-98 Carvair, any Caravelle, Comet, and the Nimrod

I was fortunate to fly on a China Airlines Caravelle in 1973!

I agree re the ATL-98...but I may add one to the collection at some point! It's a conversation piece unlike...say for instance, an A321!!!

The comet is a little strange, but I have the fantasy Pan American IF200 version....cuz its Pan American.

I love the 747, I’m surprised to see so many people who don’t like the airframe! Maybe not as beautiful a widebody as a 777-300 or A350, but it holds a special place in my heart.

The BAC 1-11 was a hot airplane in its day, I grew up in Mohawk territory in the Northeast US, and have fond memories of them. Cool pointy radome, cool airstairs at the front and in the tail cone, and the loudest plane I think I’ve ever heard! It was deafening even during engine startup at the gate! To a 5-year-old like me, that was really exciting! Not as aesthetically appealing as the DC-9, but I liked it nonetheless.

When Lockheed introduced the Electra to its first customers in Palmdale, CA, the big wigs from American, Eastern, Braniff, Northwest and KLM all showed up and said “where are the wings?” It had those short stubby wings with enormous turboprop engines that looked out of scale.
