Default Ebay buyer warning..sellers beware

If you are a seller on ebay make note of buyer:

harr9698

I cant publish his full name here but he is out of Cleveland Ohio and has the initials Jim H the first four letters of his user ID are part of of his last name.

He has fraudulently purchased models from myself and other retailers on ebay.

He will purchase a model, and prior to shipping when the money is due he cancels and asks to back out of the sale. He will then contact the seller a week later and say he made a big mistake and for his error will pay 50% more and paypal the money immediately as acting in good faith. Once the model is sent he will cancel the sale dispute the charge, get the money back and keep the model. Please add him to your blocked bidder list.

This same person almost tricked me again today!

But, I was able to ascertain exactly who is was, after messaging with his several times.

He has a yet another new eBay user name (registered in Germany, Since May 15, 2021) that I just now today discovered:

ny_532687

Please take necessary steps to avoid dealing with this person.

Hope that this info helps.

thanks for heads up Russ. now does anyone recognise this ebayer ji-977056??? earlier got message saying lives in scotland, but could not bid on any of my items. which i thought was strange. so i checked them, and couldn't see a problem. then i checked his details and he is registered in CHINA. again shouldn't be a problem as i have sold there before. so as last resort i checked my BLOCKED BUYERS list, and there he was!! but can't remember for the life of me WHEN i added him. and WHY? he has 390 positive feedback on registered account. NO negatives. just wondered if i added from a warning here, or he tried to scam me in the past.

cheers.

thanks for heads up Robert. another newbie to keep an eye on. joscre6801. he bought a buy it now model and paid during the night. then sent 3 messages saying cancel it as he bought it 'by mistake'!! so i made him wait 12 hours before doing it. he said thanks, as he paid with the 'wrong card'? i thought he said he bought it by mistake? so i re-listed it. and he asked if i would take a 100 for it. i presume dollars as it was £99.99 gbp. i didn't reply. so he upped it to 115. again didn't bother replying. ebay then sent a £3 only selling fee offer, so i took it off after couple of days. again he came back and asked if it was still available. yet he just had 2 days to buy it!! so i blocked him. first name is Joseph. think surname is shiraz, or similar. of course he may be a complete noob, and don't know the rules. but not taking any chances.

Wonder if those usernames are from the same person, they/he seems to have a fetish for ending the user names with 4 digits.
Why doesn't ebay just block the IP address rather than the individual accounts?
Not the sharpest tools in the shed are they?

..... I just gave up selling anything on eBay. I had too many dishonest bidders and eBay was never interested in resolving anything. Being the seller I was assumed to be the "bad guy". I was mainly selling stamps. I've given up selling on any auction site.
..... As if that wasn't enough, my PayPal account got messed up (can't pay, receive payment or transfer funds) and they have no interest in fixing it. I had a $40 balance I barely managed to clear out of there before it went completely KAPUT.
..... I'd rather sell my models to members here as I have for the past few years without a problem.

There are other venues out there. I saw a few on Facebook that have groups selling/collecting 1/400 and 1/200 models.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/airspotters

https://www.facebook.com/groups/2972425583041301

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1659284947681931

I have not done any selling or buying on those links, but may look into them in the future. Cheers! T7

I hear ya. I don't know if there are DAC members that have used some of the Facebook groups for selling/buying models.

Speaking of being ripped off on eBay. A buddy of mine got scammed for selling one of his pricey train locomotive a few years back. Seems the buyer received the locomotive and told my buddy that the engine was not working. My buddy told me that the engine was fine, and that the buyer swapped his broken engine for my buddy's pristine/working engine. The buyer complained to eBay and my buddy got screwed. The buyer returned the locomotive (with the buyer's broken engine) to my buddy and got his money back. The buyer complained to eBay and my buddy got screwed. That was his last eBay transaction.

One of the members here from Portugal called Joao has a couple of Facebook groups where they buy and sell models. I have bought about 30 or so from him so far and he is one of the most professional sellers I have dealt with. He posts in his group what he has for sale then I correspond with him by Messenger. NEVER had one problem dealing with him. I would highly suggest if you are after hard to get stuff his groups are the best place to check.

I also message him regularly about hard to find items and 99% of the time he has been able to find them for me. The other day I tried to find an Air NZ ATR72 in All Blacks scheme. Been sold out for years - while none of his contacts had it he did find it on ebay and sent me the link so I could go and buy it - which I did. So that shows the character of the guy.

Here are his groups:

Seems the only way to outsmart these ebay con artist's is to make the opposite of unboxing videos and film yourself packing/putting the item in the advertised condition.
I wonder if eBay would use this evidence?
Isn't really worth it to go to that effort but it would be satisfying to win something like that against these a$$hats.

Signature confirmation for delivery, and then marking the item somehow (no deer, cat or human piss -maybe pen you can see under different spectrum of light) where the buyer has no idea the item is marked in case they try to pull the whole product substitution thing (happened to me twice from buyers in Germany). Only thing as you mention, how you gonna go through the process with Ebay...they seem to side with buyers a good portion of the time. I just listed an item I couldn't sell here and it is the first time listing anything in over a year. Got tired of complicating my yearly tax return if I sold over $600 in a year. Was a pain the 2 times I had to do it!
