I've played it twice and really like it! Be prepared to be thoroughly confused playing your first time. It doesn't click until about halfway through the game.
I would recommend watching this video for how to play and just refer to the instructions as needed. They are long winded and I found other new players to lose attention if you read it aloud.
I read the rules. The PDF download has some errata BTW. And after looking at Board Game Geek forums I think I’m good to go. The lead game designer is on there quite a bit clarifying the rules. Can’t wait to try it.
My board game experience are games of the Avalon Hill Military sims genre, so this game is cake.

Just ordered Wargamer Magazine #56, with "First Team Vietnam Board Game."

Anybody else played yet and wish to give an AAR? I convinced my fiancé to start a game yesterday.
We only played the first round--using it as an instructional to get familiar with game mechanics and such. We'll finish it up on the weekend. She is convinced you have to know airplanes to understand the game--which you do not. If you do though, it just adds to the cool vibe of the game.
I have actually played this a lot -- like probably a dozen times already. My 7 year old loves it and asks to play it everyday. It really surprises me because it is an extremely complicated game for a 7 year old but she understands it well.
So you definitely need to play more than one round. It probably takes about 3 rounds until you really get the hang of it.
The routes that Pan Am expands on are valuable. You should try to claim those routes, especially early on, when you'll want cash to buy stock at more affordable prices. The jet is honestly a waste since you can only get it in Round 6 or unless a special event occurs. The directive cards are also something that can be overlooked. There's a lot of good directive cards, especially when you have the sell any route to Pan Am which can then make the jet worth it. Buying airports early on make sense since you will recover that in income and then some but make less and less sense as the game goes on.
Table Top Simulator has a module for the game so you can play online. Free account with Steam, then purchase TTS for $19.99. I'm new to it but messing around with the interface it is very cool.
Plus the guy who did the virtual game has scripted some things which saves setup time etc. It appears it's free to play on their servers. Now to find an opponent. I have to bribe my fiancé to play and it's getting expensive (although she is getting more into it)

Good luck!
My daughter still asks to play it on a regular basis. We last played it yesterday.
There is a guy on Etsy selling custom wooden, laser cut accessories for the Pan Am game. I just assembled mine last week and we're going to have a first game using them.
Speeds setup considerably. And the amazing thing is everything fits in the box without any lift to the lid. Side-note, the 1:200s aren't part of the game. Put them there for added "cool factor" to the photos.
