Default Overseas Purchases...Shipping Delays Anyone?

Anyone with any international lost or delayed mailing stories since the crisis began??? I have been on a buying roll since January purchasing 39 1/200 models and all was well with models arriving from SE Asia, Australia and UK mostly all arriving in about 2 weeks....All until mid March when the troubles began,,, gee what a coincidence!

A Hong Kong purchase on March 11th disappeared and to this day has never showed up. That seller graciously refunded my money last week as he put in a claim. Still shows the last post of arrival scan HKG March 23rd.

I have one from Australia purchased April 7th that is in limbo with no update since April 23rd with Royal Post last updating with an arrival scan in Brisbane.

And 5 more from the HKG/China area purchased late April first week of May all questionable with little to no updates.. All are being shipped air via speedpak. I acknowledge its my own fault for ordering at a time of shipping crisis, but being home and bored what else is there to do but shop for models?? Do you blame me???

On a better note I did have a box arrive from the UK in 12 days this past Saturday..JFox Ryanair 737..

Similar to something I purchased from a seller in Australia. Accepted by the post office on 3rd April and wasn't processed until 20th April in Melbourne.

I ordered from scalemodelstore.com March 12 and the status only shows "Belgium 28-03-2020 03:16:03 Departure to country of destination"

That has to be some slow boat or it's still in limbo.

International mail has been severely disrupted as a result of the crisis, with over 100 Postal Systems shut down throughout the world in keeping with the closure of their country's borders.

Interesting stories everyone, thank you for sharing.... I can only blame myself for ordering during these disruptive global shipping times, I guess patience and the hope that they show up is all we can go by. Good news is, if they dont most sellers will refund.. I will wait 45 days on each before sounding the alarm...

If a shipping container is not full, it may take weeks or months for it to find it's way onto a vessel. I have a model coming from Australia, that until this past Friday hadn't left the country of origin. Pandemics have a weird way of messing things up. 🤷‍♂️

Hi,

my 1/400 ATR-42-420 CSA paper model was handed over to Hongkong Post on 03-13-2020, left Hong Kong on 04-24-2020, arrived in Austria on 05-02-2020 and was delivered finally on 05-07-2020.
Although it was a registered shipping, mail was left after a call at the house intercom in my letter box and postman signed for it.
So obviously not only missing intercontinental flights are the main problem but only also shortage of staff or logistical changes at local post offices will cause a big delay in shipping.

The biggest problem for me is not the delay in international transportation but because Austrian Post will deliver registered mails without personal contact I am afraid that parcels and envelopes could get lost at the final stage.

..... I am not inclined to sell anything to anyone out of the U.S. at this time. Just the hassle with the post office is enough with the added uncertainty of a package being delivered. I sent a package to the U.K. back in January and felt a sigh of relief that it not only arrived quickly, but in perfect condition. Likewise, I'm not ordering anything from overseas.

Likewise with an order there from early April. I e-mailed the other day and was told by Marco that nothing is leaving them but going into a storage area because Hong Kong Post are not processing international air mail deliveries and no indication of when they will ? They can't even get a tracking number for any deliveries.

Deliveries from HK were affected by a 14 day quarantine in the early days of Covid-19 but seemed pretty much back to normal recently. Anything I've ordered from Ebay (demographer_x) has been arriving in good time lately but I note there is now a disclaimer on his store page saying do not order if not prepared for a longer than normal wait.

Postal services largely rely on commercial carriers for international mail. The world went from several hundred flights crossing the oceans daily to a few dozen. Big drop in capacity while demand has increased. I'm sure it will eventually get there.

Had a model I shipped out a month or so ago headed to Capetown South Africa come back to me on Sat. Mailed it out 3 days before that country went into lockdown. Buyer wants me to try try again in July.

The package I'm waiting for was packaged in bubble wrap and board in an envelope sent via Australia Post. I have a feeling I won't receive it before I move to London in two weeks.

Do to the virus there are many, many more packages being sent than there are aircraft flying. Be patient.

I was about to order a few of these face masks pictured below , but the seller is in Australia and the estimated shipping time could be up to 2 months due to Covid19 delays!

NOT SO FAST... Marco at johanchan2004 and I agreed to cancel my order after a further review of the condition of the model I purchased. The cancellation and full refund came easily with no hassle or haggling. Johanchan2004 remains one of my 'go to' eBay sites - great source. Doug

I had a package shipped from Japan via Hong Kong to The Netherlands with DHL 2 weeks ago, total shipping time was only 4 days.
Package from the US with USPS (purchase was just before everything closed down), took 6 weeks in total to arrive.

Australia shipping times seem to be agonizingly slow.
I also had an item shipped from Japan via DHL that took only days. DHL seems to have their act together quite well.

I have never had anything I've bought from a US retailer or eBay seller NOT arrive safely and in good time and undamaged when sent by USPS.

Over a period of almost twenty years I've had deliveries to me in Hong Kong, Oman, UK and now Ireland. The only time I've had problems with delivery or with damage has been when sent by one of the big couriers, FedEx, UPS or DHL.

I have frequently also mailed stuff to myself at home when I have been visiting the U.S. for various reasons. Again always by USPS. The range of boxes and packaging materials available in US post offices is fantastic. Makes sending stuff anywhere a piece of cake.

What 'hassle' with the post office are you referring to Dave? Apart from maybe having to wait in a line for a few minutes to pay the postage.

well things must be getting better. the other model finally arrived yesterday. 18 days after leaving HK. which is about right at times. UKJOHNA on here posted me 2 x 1/400 he had for me as sellers didn't want to post overseas. so he said post to him and he will bring on one of his 4/5 business trips. but that got cancelled last month. and no idea when next will be. so I got him to post them. well he posted last Saturday 9th, and they turned up YESTERDAY! SIX DAYS!! that's QUICKER than a lot of U.K post atm!!! so hopefully you guys should get your models soon. but will obviously will vary country to country you buy from.

Thats good to know that things appear to be improving Robert. Sadly mine were all sent at the start of the lock down and not sure whats happening. The one from Australia early April may be gone for good, and the 4 from China/HKG are all showing arrival in the USA May 5-10 clearing customs but I'm starting to get concerned as its been 10 days since the first one arrived in USA but no change in status..

I have one order from Japan that has not arrived yet. It was shipped on April 15 and said that I will receive it on May 1-8 but so far nada, the last tracking has not changed-It still says "Processed through facility in Osaka INT". My orders from Russia and Ukraine took a while but it was in NY (understandably with the present situation) that they were held up. When I tracked it it said it was in the International customs in NY where it stayed for almost a month. Howland was the fastest-1 week which is normal. I am still waiting for 2 models from the UK. One domestic order though not a model, this one took almost 2 months from Illinois. I live in the Bay Area.

I too have had several from Dai Kong and My Hobby House from Malaysia arrive to Florida in 3 days via DHL prior to this situation. They are by far the best out there! Go DHL!

There's actually a few cities in Asia that will get to the US in 1 day from both FedEx & DHL. Kuala Lumpor isn't one of them, though. I don't think UPS has any cities it can connect in one day since as far as I know, all of them stop in Anchorage. But DHL & FedEx run from a few cities non-stop back to Memphis and Cincinnati and getting there in time to connect to the domestic outbounds. Both of them can connect Hong Kong in one day. They leave at 10PM and due to the time change, arrives at about 11PM same day.

May I ask you guys where do you buy your models in Hong Kong? I just moved there and am looking for good addresses, so maybe the online shops you buy from have "physical" shops also?!

Thank you

My purchases have all been ebay sellers with no physical store...

There are 3 sotres that I have shopped at but it has been years..ABC, West Main Toys and Toymax. Expect to pay more then if purchased on line but no shipping charges so it may be a wash. The good news is it may be worth it as you can physically open and inspect your model verses purchasing on line, and those stores tend to have a huge selection of older long sold out models from years ago. Definitely worth the trip...

I ordered these from Red Bubble. You might find something you like there.

I knew Toymax. And this one changed address. They are now at:
Fook Tai Building, 234 Sai Yeung Choi St S, Prince Edward - Phone 2330 8802.
And they have a Whatsapp inquiry line: +852 9442 0843 (but they are not answering there very fast). I found that they have more in the shop than what they have on the website. From what I've heard it seems they are going to move again very soon. Estate price is crazy here and shops always have to move to cheaper (and smaller) places.

Any info regarding your order with them?
I recently ordered a nice 744 of CX in vintage livery and it took them 2 weeks to send it (I live in Hong Kong !). They said the courier lost the first one. For the first 4 days, I was asking for an update every day, they kept saying "wait it will be updated on the SF Express (local courier) website". Finally, on the 5th day I got upset and asked a bit "stronger" then, suddenly they said the courier had lost my parcel and promised to send me another one. When I asked when, their answer was " ASAP ". I took them even longer. In the meantime I called the courier and they said they never had that parcel number activated!
After almost 2 weeks I send another Instagram message asking whether they actually had it in stock. Very conveniently the just had received the model (which they were supposed to have in stock) in the morning (at 7 am !). They sent it and I received it the next day. And not even sorry a single time!
I was wondering if I had been unlucky or ...
I always try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt so I'd go for the first option but my advice would be, contact them by any means, every day until you have your parcel sent and a valid (activated) parcel tracking number.
Use IG, Facebook, email, or anything you can. As far as I know there are no restrictions for departures from HK.

the only but main restrictions are the missing international flights as such cargo is mainly transported by passenger planes. Wolfgang

As the originator of this post I am happy to report the model from Australia showed up 1.5 months after being shipped..

The 5 from China/Hong Kong have now showed up at the Orlando distribution center (Final Destination) all in the same 2 days and should hopefully be out for delivery on Tuesday as Monday is a legal holiday..The date range of purchase on those 5 was all around mid April. Not bad 30 days all things considered. What was most frustrating was no updates for several weeks and then all of the sudden they track here in the states out of nowhere..

The one from sent from HKG on March 11 is gone for good...as mentioned I was fully refunded on that one.

So I guess the moral of the story is to have PATIENCE!

Meanwhile I have yet another USPS package that arrived in Atlanta but still isn’t here. For some reason, the post office consistently takes 2-3 days to get the final 20 miles. I never send anything important through the USPS and they consistently remind me why.

My 3/13/20 order from ScaleModelStore.com arrived by Belgian Post May 22 at LA USPS Regional Facility and delivered yesterday evening. So maybe where you live the USPS are slacking off.

But the pandemic sure put a long damper on the trans Atlantic portion.

If there is no movement in tracking for a few weeks from overseas, then its STUCK in customs/held up at border somewhere. so don't panic.

2 JTA 734 ordered (by EMS) on suruga-ya.com on Sunday. Sent by them on the same day at 16h30 from Shizuoka (yes Japanese post office is opened on Sundays !), arrived at Chubu Airport at 19h30, and sent to HKG on the same evening.
Parcel seems to have been stuck in customs / HK post center in HK airport for 2 days, and this morning....surprise!
So, a total of 4 days, which is double than the advertised time for EMS between Japan and HK. But these days, that's great! It seems that HK doesn't have too many parcels late.
I guess I'm lucky that Surugaya's warehouse is near Nagoya Chubu which is one of the airports in Asia served by Air Hongkong every day! And as usual with Japanese second-hand models, they are in pristine condition.
