Default Making Daytona 500 Great

...Again! Class act! Only thing that would have made this better is if the first lady came out of the Beast in some Daisy Dukes and a Confederate Flag tank tee holding a Busch beer!

That was one of the most incredible events I have ever witnessed. Having attended that race a few times, I can only have wished to have been there for that once in a lifetime occurrence, though watching it on TV was cool.

I thought it was also interesting that they allowed the Goodyear Blimp to stay aloft while Air Force 1 did its fly by, when there was a 30 mile no fly zone ban in effect.

Definitely! Would've been cool to be there, but TV coverage was good! The Secret Service probably had an agent in the blimp wheel house.

What's wrong with celebrating what makes this country great by the symbolism depicted! Car racing and the Presidency!

Neat to see a 747 in Daytona. I lived there from 1968-1980 and during all that time the largest plane that served DAB was a 727.

My dad worked for Daytona Lincoln-Mercury back in the day and he always got complimentary tickets to the 500. So much fun.

Actually I attended Embry Riddle in Daytona from 78-82 and flew out several times on EAL L-1011 equipment for Xmas and Spring break!

Would have been cool to listen to this song booming over the loud speakers at the Racetrack as Air Force 1 was approaching for it's flyby. Thinking of that Tom Cruise movie "Days of Thunder".

None of this matters now:

Lets all pray for Ryan Newman. The race ended an hour ago and still no word. I'm afraid its not looking good

Very sorry to hear that about Ryan Newman. Hopefully, he's able to pull through his injuries. I heard this happened during the final lap and he was in the lead race car.

When no one is saying anything, that is not a good sign. Similar to the Dale Earnhardt finish of 2001.

I just watched a video replay of the horrific crash. You are right crownvic, it does not look good for him. There was some backlash from some race fans saying that the race officials did not delay/halt the customary race celebrations from the winning driver while emergency crews were trying to extract Newman from his car.

WOW! I was living in Tampa by that time, so I was plane spotting there. I wonder if they operated larger aircraft for DAB during peak travel seasons? Daytona was (not sure if it still is) always packed during Spring Break.

LTU also brought 1011's there in the 90's

Been there, done that. My shots from the 2018 Daytona 500. Everyone should try it at least once. A spectacle like no other. And it looks as if Ryan Newman is going to pull through. Doug

Saw a picture on the news of Ryan and he had a big smile on his face, standing in his hospital gown hugging his two daughters! Great to see! According to the news update he is having fun joking around with the hospital staff.

I remember seeing him on "American Pickers" when Mike and Frank sold him a Gas sign for his garage/man cave. He gave them one of his race suits. Later in the show he visited Danielle at the Iowa store and bought two antique bumper cars for his daughters!

Glad he is on the mend! Safety has come along way over the past 19 years!

Will have to make the race one year!
